Addict son

Question Posted Saturday March 12 2005, 10:21 am

I have a 36 year old son who is married with one child. For about a year he has slowly sunk into the depths. His wife has kicked him out of the house. He now lives in his truck. She tells me he is drinking heavily and smoking crack/crank. He refuses to get help. My question is: Do you think I should report him to the police before he harms himself or an innocent person driving around like this. Thanks, Christy

Wow that is a very hard thing to deal with. If you have any way of contacting him i would warn him of your thoughts. tell him if he doesnt start fixing his life that you will have to resort to turning him in for his own good. he wont understand it now and he may not understand it for a long long time but if you do turn him in he WILL get better because he will be forced to. i understand that its a hard decision but you would be making the right choice b cuz you will save your son.
good luck -- love mucho

Try to get him some kind of help first. He probably won't want to get it but with some gently persuading he might do it. If he aboslutely refuses, it's for the best you do turn him in. It'll avoid any kind of danger he would put himself and others in.
Hope this works out for you Christy!

Definitely seek some help. My brother was in the same situation and I really look up to him. He may say he doesn't want help, but deep dowm he knows he needs it. He will thank you later in life for saving his.

I think that you should report him cause it's for the best and he may harm others if nothing is done. but make sure he is really on crack or drinking and try talking to him before reporting him. xoxo peachgirly

Well, you are his mom and you should know the best for him. So i dont want to say to turn him into the police because moms arent supposed to do that. But if you want to keep an eye on him and just make sure he is doing all this then that is a good idea. If he gets into an accident, turn him into the police. Oh yea and does he have a job?? If not then defenatly turn him in!!
Always there..

I think you should. Drug abuse isn't something pretty. If he doesn't snap out of it soon it could worse. You don't want to imagine the possibilities of it getting worse.

I would say, make sure that he is actually smoking and drinking, becuase if you turn him in and he isn't even doing those things it would be a problem. Or you can try talking to him, and asking why he got kicked out, and then try and sneek in the do you smoke or drink?.. But then if he is, you should turn him in because you don't want him to hurt himself or other people around him!

*Hope I helped!*

Well I think you should actually make sure he's doing crack and things. If you find that he is, then I think you should report him before he does something that could hurt himself and others.

I think you should. You may think that taking him to police will make him unhappy, but that is better than him killing him self because of an addiction. He seriously needs help, and you can obviously see that. Maybe you, his wife, and his child talking to him will give him the motivation to seek help and pick himself back up from his already messed up life because he knows that you guys care about him. Don't shut him out before it's too late. If you have any questions, please send me a message.
