Does anybody have any pet care tips for a rat?? I just got one. Like, what are their favorite foods and what activities do they like??? Anyone who has a rat, gimmie some tips!!! Thanx!! I rate high

I dont Have a rat but I do know some tips my friend had a pet rat and He jsut LOVE cheese and he loves to play with a lil wheel and I dont know if this will work but we put a flash light in front of his cage thing and he played with it OVER AND OVER

i have a rat. he loves to be held and played with. go to your pet store and pick up a small feret leash for it. mine loves his. you could try making it it's own play house, it sounds corny but it keeps them occupied. if your busy just let it ride around on your shoulder,they love that. oh, and when they grind their teeth, thats their way of purring(like a cat shows affection). other than that, they can eat pretty much anything you want to give them.mine likes corn flakes! otherwise pick up a bag of hamster food. have fun

i use to have rats all the time. they all died after like 3 years tho they dont last much long. hmm i think u feed it like some gerbal food im not sure look it up on google and put in rat care or something. mine didnt run on the wheels they ran in the cages but id take them out and put them in those balls and let them run around. they dont need lots to take care but they do stink after a while so make sure u clean the cage out

Spend as much time as you can with it. You said you only got one...and rats are very social creatures. They get depressed very easily if they're kept alone and you don't play with them. You might consider purchasing another (of the same sex!) if you know you won't be able to do that. Rats love sunflower seeds and COOKED rice. Make sure it's cooked, because if you give it raw rice and it drinks water...yeah.

Hey, rats are very intelligetn creatures, they logve things that stimulate there mind, so let them outta the cage for at least an hour and a half a day and give them ladders 2 climb and balls to play with. Trust me it can be as much fun watching them play as it is for them! And i have found that rats love dog biscuits, idont know y possibly the animal renit but they go nuts 4 the stuf. So like every time u have them out 4 a while and they do something good, reward them with a dog biscuiit and ull jhave a friend for life!!

well I dont have a rat but I used to have a rat..that counts doesnt it? lol. lots of people have been saying, "why do u have a rat?" well newsflash but I think rats are the best pets. My rat was soo sweet I loved him to death and he never bit me unlike my hampster (evil) lol just kidding. Rats get big so make sure it has a big cage they love to run around.I had a 75 gallon (not necessary to have this big) fish tank that the top was open. I got it a tube to run through and my rat slept in it and loved it. my rat also loved little balls to play with and move. um basically any type of chewing block, plastic or wood they need something to dull their teeth. As far as food just any seed diet is good. They always love to be outside so you can buy a ferret or rat leash and take your rat in ur backyard. Lastly, at petco or any pet store you can find a book on rats that will give good advice. Don't plan on giving ur rat a bath cuz it could catch a cold and if it's dirty just get a damp cloth and wipe it. good luck, they love to be clean!

#1 clean there cage alot
#2 dont feed them 2 much human food *apple, grapes etc,* give them the runs lol
#3 careful when you hold them when they bite it hurts!
#4 make sure it gets exercise no one likes a fat rat

Rates like being up in high places for fun. They like looking around. They love grapes and rasins and all kinds of fruit...and lettuce and such. They like being pet and running around outside and all that fun stuff.

I have a hamster which is alot like having a rat,lol.Make sure you change its cage @ least once a week.Carrots,apples,lettuce, unsalted crackers or very little are foods rats usually like.The running wheels area good thing to have for rats.If you go to pet stores there's differnt tubes you can get which is another good thing.The little houses and things to crawl threw and ontop of arealso good.If you have any more questions i'd be happy to help.Hope i helped and have fun with your new pet.
