I own a labrador retriever currently and I just got a new puppy. The problem is that my lab is very aggressive towards the new puppy. She growls when it comes near her and if threatened enough she will attempt to bite the puppy. What can I do to keep my dog from doing this?

First of all, you need to be calm and in control always when dealing with animals. If your dog respects and listens to you, you will be able to handle this situation.

Dogs need boundaries. They need leaders. When a dog is not submissive to his owner, it runs the house and lead to aggression with humans and other animals.

You will need to try to acclimate your lab to the new puppy. Try putting the lab on his leash when he is interacting with the puppy. Every time the lab growls and just barely begins to show aggression, correct him by tugging on his leash or using a command. Some make a Shhhh type of sound others use a snap or vocal noise. It is whatever you feel comfortable with.

The most important thing is that your lab understands that aggression is not allowed. Try putting in a calm and relaxed state. Wait until he is calm and laying down and then introduce the puppy. Continue the corrections and make sure that you never pet him or give him a good boy unless he is in a calm state. If you pet him while he is excited or touch him when he is aggressive, that is only reinforcing that mind set. I would recommend the phone book and calling and talking ro emailing some dog trainers in your area. Most of them are willing to talk, and can give you other helpful tips. You can also pick up some material from Cesar Milan by googling him.

Good luck and remember to stay calm and in control.

My family and I own, 3 dogs. None of them have ever bothered this woman, nor her animals. Our past dogs might have, but not these.

A few minutes ago I herd someone shooting. So I walked out on porch and sure enough there she was aiming at our dogs or at least trying to scare them away. This has happened numerous times and since we live in a very rural area, there is no animal control. Nor, do the police care.

I went back in the house and told my parents. After that I walked back out on the porch and herd her say, "Next time you come in my yard, you'll be a dead dog!!". I mean, this woman is in her 70's. She has about two dozen cats and god knows that our dogs would NEVER bother them.

The last real problem we had out of her (or at least suspected her) was 4 of our dogs died. They were antifreeze poisoned and we strongly believed and still believe that it was her. This is beginning to be a problem and I, myself, can't solve it. Does anyone have any suggestions? It would be much appreciated.

Also- The gun she was shooting with was not a BB-gun.

Steal her cats and then send her ransom letters. Tell her that if she doesn't stop being an insufferable old hag, she will never see darling Mopsy again.

She is an angry old hag and often the less they care. You have to make them care. It can be like reasoning with a child, and if a child misbehaves, their toys are taken away.

If I were her neighbor, it would be bye bye kitties.

My dog Uranus poops on the floor and I've tried everything to get him to stop. He won't pee on the floor, just poop. I even got one of those cages and made him sit with his poop for a few hours. If Uranus doesn't stop pooping in the house my parents will make me get rid of him! I don't want my parents to send him away because I know he'll get put to sleep. I love Uranus so much and I don't know what to do. I don't want Uranus to die, just to stop pooping on the floor. What can I do? Uranuses life is at stake! Please help!

I think that you really don't have dog problems. I think that you are trying to be clever with word play. I am saying this because the advice that has already been given is sufficent to help you. The whole Uranus is pooping on the floor...hahaah. I get it.

I also believe that if you were really worried about your dog, you would not have used his name so many times and in the contexts you chose. It sounds to me as if you tried one to many times to put Uranus and poop in the same sentence.

"Uranuses life is at stake!"
"I don't want Uranus to die, just to stop pooping on the floor."
"I love Uranus so much and I don't know what to do."

--Uh huh.

And if your question is real...

That is what you get for naming your dog Uranus.

can someone tell me why my cat pees everywhere?and how can i make hi stop doing it?all 5s

Is your cat new? If it is, it may not have been litter box trained correctly. Is it neutered? It may be marking its territory if it hasn't been. It may just be a bad kitty. And if it is just a bad kitty, look into obedience training. It is not just for pooches you know... If all else fails, talk to your local kitty doctor. He/she will have tips and possibly references for you.

my dogs a mix of a beagle and jack russle terrier, and he is a cool dog. He chews through every dog toy he has gotten, including 15 dollars of mine, a book, and some shoes which didnt like so good boy, but how does he chew through stuff that strong!! for such a small dog

My dog is a 12 lb little thing too...and he just chews through his toys and rawhides like it was nothing. I am lucky with my pooch, because he is a licker not a chewer.(and for the attitude, I think that comes standard with all small dogs...my dog barks back at me.) Your dog has a strong jaw and sharp teeth. If he so pleases, he can chew through whatever he wants. Just because he is small, does not mean he is not strong. Hope that helps...you didn't mention how to get him to stop chewing, I guess he hasn't destroyed anything you love yet....

My hamster died.:( I had him for like 2 years. Thats not the point though. I was thinking about gettting another animal but I dont know what. Cats, dogs, rabbits and any reptiles are just not going to work...should I just get another hamster but that seems like I am just replacing it. Got any suggestions?I love ferrets but I don't have the money for them.
I rate 5!!!!

Thanks
ps this isn't Britt but she knows I am using it.

If you do not want to get another Hamster (which I think you should, I have a soft spot for Hamsters) try a bird. When I was younger, I could not have a dog, or a cat, or a reptile. My parents were allergic. Well, actually, I am too. Cats and rabbits make me break out in itchy white bumps. Anyway, I had a bird. It was a cockatiel and her name was Sunny. She was a great pet. Birds can be kind of messy, ok, they are really messy. But they can be worth it. If all else fails, just get fish.

Okay well i have 2 dwarf hamsters. male and female. i have to do a project on them at school but i need more info. do you know of anything. thanx for the help

The only thing I know about Siberian Dwarf Hamsters is that they would make a kick ass B horror movie. If you want other info about them...besides their awesome horror movie potential, Google it.

Or you could use Dogpile. That is what I use. Heh, that is actually how I found this website, well that and a dude named Charlie....Anyway, Dogpile is cooler because it uses all of the search engines and condenses the findings in one place.

Omg, my dog got skunked! I got home from dance and me and my mom found out she got skunked after my dad let her outside. From the looks of it, she got sprayed right in the face, and she's pacing around, because she doesn't know what to do. It smells more like rotten onions rather than a skunk. Me and my mom could smell the skunk when we got home. I feel so bad for her. We don't know what to do. Is there anything we can do. We're going to try to get her a bath at Petsmart as soon as possible, so don't suggest a bath, it's already being done. Ok thanks!!!!

I believe that you should dump tomato juice on your dog. Not only is it fun, it should help remove the horrible onion smell (onion..ick...) Or if you wanted (and I doubt you do) you can spray your dog black and then put a white stripe down his back. Instant smelly dog-like skunk. I think you should use the tomato juice.
