Q: It doesn't seem like we have touched on this subject much. I know how contravercial it is...so please dont pass judgement on me. I want advice not a lecture. 2 years ago on Aug 8th I has an abortion. I was 7 weeks Pregnate. I strugle every day with the descion i made. This time of year is the worst though. I had no support from anyone who knew including the scumbag who I had sex with. I mad a rash descion. And to this day I know it was the wrong one. It was increadably selfish. I had more options but I took the easy way out. I should have taken responsibilty for my actions and I didn't. With all that said, my quetion is...what are my chances of being able to conceive a child again. Are they less...or does it make it more difficult becuase of the abortion. You should still be able to get pregnant but depending on your age and the type of abortion you had there may be some damage to the vaginal wall. However, the worst case scenario is that you would be unable to have a traditional birth and instead opt for a cesarean (c-section) which is becoming more and more common and can lower the babies chances of having damage from coming through the birth canal. As far as deciding to have an abortion I think that recognizing that it is not a good form of birth control is really important and if you are a religious person that knowing that baby is in a better place w/people who can take the proper care of him/her is also important. You also learned a valuable lesson but you had to learn it the hard way. You should remember that when you hear people on here talking about sex and if they are ready I am sure you could give them some great advice on why they should wait. Take care and God bless.

Q: Since the last time I was at the gyno my boyfriend and I had sex. I cant tell my doctor if I go back because she'll take tests for STD's and birth control, then my mom will know. Should I not tell the dr and get birth control from a friend or should I tell her and make up a reason for the birth control? I'm so scared my mom will find out, she'll kill me :-/ Thank you soo much for the advice!

Aside from going to Planned Parenthood (which is a good idea as far as the whole STD issue is concerned) You can tell your doctor that your periods are irregular, most OB/GYN's will prescribe birth control as a way to regulate your period and that is exactly how you can explain it to your mother. To help protect yourself further you should also always use a condom.

Considering you had your first period two years ago, you can rule out the idea that this has anything to do with regualting itself. You are definitely underweight for your height and this is messing w/your body in a way that you are no longer having a period, you should see a gynecologist and gain some weight before you do more damage. If you continue to lose weight or maintain this weight you could also stunt your growth and do major organ damage. Please seek out professional medical advice and don't rely on this column, people giving advice around here are not much older than you and can only say what they think-a doctor is much more sound advice than random columnists.
