Hello There!Erm where do I start?Well, my name is Vikki-Kimberly =)Im a good person. I dont bite =)I give people thousands of chances.I like to eat healthy... and... I have advice on practicly anything.I am in acting/signing/dancing groups.Yeah... Im just... easy to talk to. =)

advice

How can I get a good toetouch?

Dear Questioner,
-Push ups, this will help your core strength and give you really strong arms. If you do 2 sets of 10 every day or every other day. Increase the number of set if this is too easy for you.
-Splits stretches, the wider you can get your legs the higher you can get and the more power you will have. So sit in a straddle position (google this) and work on your box splits.
-High kicks to the side and the front, these will get you used to flicking your legs up really quickly and back down, remember to point your toes in the kick so hopefully you will do the same whist jumping. Doing high kicks to the front will not only make your TT better but also other jumps like a herkie and pike jumps.
-sit ups and similar, these will just generall give you strength in your tummy to help you hold your weight and help you go higher (and make it feel easier!) do about 3 sets of 10, more sets if your capable.
-squats, these will help you look like your in control when you land your jump (as I will explain later)
-dorsal raises (google these) these are not essentail but will help strengthen your back and therefore hopefully encourage you to have a straighter back in the jump.

Now, they are a good couple of things that can help you improve your jump. Now as a cheer coach, I want to tell you what i look for in jumps. SO you know what makes a good toe touch.
-Power and precision, I REALLY like to see a sharp clasp or high V (variates between squads) before a jump. So it looks like "BAM" i havent even started to jump yet but its going to be amazing.
-When in your motion before jumping as (previous point) go onto your tip toes, this will help you give the power you need to jump high.
-Ususally you wil circulate your arms before you jump, really use this as your tool for jumping, we dont put it there to make it look pretty, we put it in because it gives you control and power.
-Think tall, look at something higher than you, your body will look as if its going higher.
-Think Tall and keep your back straight. looking at something taller than you will encourage you to kepe a striaghter back. Its bad for your back to lean too far forward and I for one hate seeing a toe touch where the athlete is leaning forward, it just looks sloopy.
-Point your toes, if your new to the sport, then this is a tricky one, it takes practice to learn this with trainers on. But if youve been cheering a few years get into this habit if you are not already.
-Land clean with your knees bend to take the landing, also remmber to come "up" on the right count, the same everyone else is going on.
Good luck with your toe touches.

My school will be having cheer workshops april 10-13 tryout day is april 16th this is a new school that im attending they are very school spirited and im scared out of my mind to try out. I believe i have the possibility of making it i used to dance so i pick up choreo quickly i have decent kicks already working on making them better. But my toe touches arent that high and they just don't seem to improve. because of that im a bit discouraged. what would help me be prepared for tryouts?

Dear Questioner,
Im previously a cheer coach so I hope my anser is of use to you.
It will take some hard work, some elbow grease as I like to say. ESPECAILLY as you only have two weeks left. You may want to start stretching etc a bit beforehand say a month or too. It will keep you in good stead if you condition regularly.

But back to matters,

to get your toe toueches higher I recommend V sits, dorsal raises, scissor kicks, and leg raises/kicks should be on your list. Also if you have ankle weights i would recommend doing about 5 leg raises and V sits with them on, but not too many or your'll seriously hurt yourself.

Apart from that its box splits and normal cardio im afriad.

Also to put your mind at rest, as a cheer coach with regards to jumps, I wouldnt just look at your end result, I would be looking at your demonstation on flexibility in warm up etc. so dont worry! just go there and wear your biggest smile! the worst they can do is say try next year.

jusy turn up to the workshops and be confident :)

Good luck future cheerleader, feel free to inbox me any other cheer Qs

Okay so I am a flyer. I have my scorpian but wht are some exercises I can do to make it better!?? And my heel stretch.

Another question is when I pully scorpian my ankle the bases are holding rolls and makes it harder for them. What is a way I can make my anke stop rolling?

If you can answer either it both of these questions it is verrrrryyyy much apricoated!

Ok as a coach and an athelte i am giving you a basic stretching programm as i would give myyounger members. let me know if you want some advanced ones by privatte mail

firsdt question
SCORPION:
splits...
oversplits (with your back legs overspliting/going higher)
high kicks (with your back leg) to the back... - ido about 50 of these when stretching
high kicks (with your standing leg to the front - again 50
pulling scales
bridges
bridges with straight legs

HEEL STRETCH:
Splits
again oversplits (with time with the front leg goinghigher)
high kicks (with your stretching leg going forward)
lying on the floor and brining your leg up
high kicks.. (to the side)

second question: PRACTISE PRACTISE PRACTISE! maybe invest in a wobble cusshion and practise your stretches on that.. iw ould start off doing arabesques on a wobble cushion as its hard to get used too. then start pulling your leg higher as you get used to it.

Okay so lots and lotss of answers even if I have rated someone answers already I will still apreciate more answers!!!!!!!!
Okay well I am in all-star cheer and school and comp. Cheer. But we haven't had our comp. Yet and I have to twist from an aerobesque. I have twisted before from halfs and it went really we but that was like 2 years ago. I tried to twist this year and my feet came around and hit my left base in the face one time. Then I did it with all-stars and I kept going forward and I didn't hit any one in the face this time tho :). Haha but why do my feet swirl around after my body once I twist. Why does it do this and how can I stop it!? I ride it u. Then twist but my feet come around after my body out of control. How can I twist from a lib/besque/heel stretch/prep/maybe even a double? Haha thanks so much!

heya!
being a coach aswell as an athlete this is the adivce i always give.. you need to be sure your twisting from your hips and not your shoulders. you need to tighten your legs as you begin to twist so they dont go floppy.
If you lie on the floor and twist fromy ou shoulder... and then twwist around from your hips you will notice a MASSIVE difference and this will help you relaise what you need to twist in the air.
if you have a trmpoline i recommend doing some halftwist straight jumps and full twist and beyond! if not you can always try it on the ground... this can elp make your twist quiicker and well as help coordinate your twist.

Ok so im a sophomore. Basically what I do for my team is I treat everyone equally, i keep a center of balance in our team, i call conditioning for sophomores, they all seem to respect me,and i keep an Alpha atmosphere so to speak. but what else can i ddo to become captain later on?...

seems like your a good team mate.
i dont know quite how your team runs and how you get elected. but generally being there for your team mates. helping them out when they need it... this could be anything from spotting them on that difficult move, going to dinner together, giving them constructive critism.

-leg raises with ankle weights
- plank (to include arms)

Flexibility:

When you answered my question about cheerleadig and ways to stretch you helped so soooo so much so thank you. :) and also my question is you said I should do warm ups and stuff. What do ou mean by warm ups? And what do I do in them??:) thanks!!! ;)

lol no problem.
i mean by doing a couple of starjumps. leg raises. scissor kicks. maybe run up and down your stairs lol. squats help. twisting jumps. something that will raise your heart rate and pump blodd around the body. and lossenyour synovial fluid in your joints.
at cheer you should do a small warm up at the beggining... well for allstars you should i dont know if your a high school cheerleader or an allstar.

oh and i missed something out on my prev answer.. splits will also help your scorpion.. (the back leg mostly)

hey im a flyer in cheerleading and i need ways to stretch everyday to gain flexibility and so i can hit my heel stretches and scorpians and bow & arrows and scale and stuff really easy. i have been a flyer for three years so i know what im doing i just have a hard time to get them all right. what are way to help me like stretches i can do? thanks if your answer is good ill give u a five! :) thankss

tbh if youve been cheerleading three years your streches should alrady be there.
my advice is a bit different im a cheerleading coach myself i know what im talking about. work on your balance.
SO MANY girls fall from stuntsbecause a coachs is asking them to be flexible AND balance in the air at the same time. so i stongly recommend practising standing one legs on a step. or chair.

for flexibility use streches you use in your warm up
oh one more thing ALWAS warm up to strech. do liek a 5 - 10 min warm up before streching. it will help your flexilbilty LOADS! and prevent injury!

to get your scorpion and scale recomment doing bridges, and working on shoulder flexibilty
for you bow and arrows and heels i recommend lying onthe floor and pulling them... and kicking them up =)
practise doing them standing on the floor too

generally tho i recommend working on balnce a ton! i make all my flyers work on their balance. they have never ever dropped a stunt at a competition or comp warm up out of the three years i have been coaching them =)AND they are mini and youth. =)

Alright, I'm 16 and not athletic at all. I hate sports with a burning passion. Not a big fan of getting all sweaty and I'm definitely not good at the whole "team player" thing. Lol, just not me.

But as of this year my school is requiring everyone to do some sort of physical something (like a sport or something) or else they have to take gym.
My question is do any of you have any suggestions about what I should do? The physical activity could be like swimming lessons or gymnastics or something.
My problem is that I'm 16 and have never actually played a sport. I took dance lessons like 6 years ago, but I doubt my parents would be keen on sending me back to dance. So I'd need something that's easy to pick up that I'd only really do for like two years until I graduate.
Thanks for the help in advance.

~16/f

right so im going to give varying sports with some drawbacks. im not gonna sugar coat it all the way if you get me.. sport is generally tough.. but fun :) choose what you think would suit you best

-Cheerleading
not your school sideline stuff. I mean your allstar cheerleading team. Message me if you want some help finding a squad :) ost squads these days have a team for all levels for all ages :)
and itll get you in touch with your dance again.
the drawback thoughis that it can be dangerous. maek sure you go to a good gym :) with good coaches :)

-gymnastics
Its fun you get to learn how to flip and you stay flexible. drawback though, is that its a very tough sport mentally, although you get the chance for you to be by your self its not necarrily a team sport :) it can be in certain disclipline but something like artistic gym, is generally individual.

-Swimming
gives you alot of me time :) it also works out your whole body from your legs right the way up to you fingertips and neck. one drawback though is the whole chlorine smell thing, and training could be early mornings. lso if you scard of deep water not the place for you, however overcoming fear of water is the best thing someone can do :)
oh and the best thing if your not the fan of sweat... no one can see it!

-Diving
simalar discirption to swimmingm but it involves flips, a drawback would be that if your scared of heights, this probally isnt for you.

-Tennis
it can be individual. Also your sixteen, 16 yos get angry. Tennis would be a good way to take anger out, it heighetens coordination and balance. However you need to be prepared for you batting arm to become stronger than your non batting arm.

-Horse riding
it is dangerous, your relying on an animal not to freak out and topple you off it, but from what ive heard its very fun AND buils alot of muscle in the abs abd thighs. something eery girl dreams of =)

-Ice skating
simalar explination to cheerleading and gymnastics,
drawback.. its slippery.

im trying out for tryouts within a month i need to figure out how to get my legs higher off the ground. i am very flexible and can do pretty good high kicks but, when it comes to getting both feet off the ground i just cant do it. how can i get my toe touches looking amazing?!?

hey! first off.. good luck at tryouts =)
um when you practise be sure to breathe while jumping... im not sure why but my coaches have always told us to breathe when we jump and not to hold our breath.
Personally for height i find herkies and hurdlers and stars to help height and confisence in jumping (and to also brush up on technique)
but the main way to get height is to practise..
i did write a long thing to someone about height on jumps a few days ago so check out my advice colum!

oh one mroe thing... if your practising and cant get it.. dont get annoyed with yourself! cuz it will ware you out and you jumps will look horrible..
if it starts to bug you. take a deep breathe and try a different jump = with a smile of course =)

oh and are you sure you have ther ight technique? jus double check on that too =) it may help =D

Ok, so my cheerleading season ended for this year and I really want my toe touch to look good for next season which starts in like December so I have about 8 months to improve my toe touch. This is what I really need. I want to get my legs up higher, roll my hips (which I have no idea what that means so if someone could explain it that would be great :D), get my legs straighter, and get good hight in my toe touch. So if someone could please answer this question I would so totally appreciate it :D. Thanks

ive been doing the exactly same thing as you for ages =)remember keep your chest up when doing a toe touch..-point you toes and try to get you legs as far out as possible!-obviously keep splitiing =)... espesially box... and jus sit there in a toe touch position... back stright and everything itll help you posture.. which will help your height =)-generally practise practise practise! the more you jump the better youll get!-make your motions sharp and dont punch out.. it can throw you off a bit.- my squad used to lift us up when we jump (for example, id hold onto you waist and help bring you up when you jump).. its the same kind of height priniple as a trampoline.. but you dont bounce! hehe- dont hold your breath hile jumping... my coach always tells us off for that although im nto sure why.. so yeah dont hold your breath! =D-more practise
-more practis
oh anda lil bit more practise =)
and you totally have a legendary jump =)

So i was in cheerleading about 5 or 6 years ago. But it wasnt anything serious. And all my friends are getting into Dance and stuff. Butt im not into that, becuase i wanna be a cheerleader. :) but for one, i dont think any of my friends would take me seriously with it. and two, i would feel so retarded getting onto a team because im in eighth grade. and we dont have a cheer team. and id feel so outta place if i got on some team with "experienced" girls. and i cant really cheer. i pick up on things fast.. but i dont know..

HELP????

Hey um why be soo shy for =) if you wanna be a cheerleader you gotoa get rid of the i-care-what-every-one-thinks thing (no offence)

im a UK cheerleader myself and my mates were like this... they didnt take me siriously - buh yknw what? who cares you gotta follow your heart and not your friends =).

Um im not to sure what eighth grade is equivalent to over her in the UK, buh im 15 (soon to be 16) old... i started cheering when i was 14. and please, these exprienced girls? they started off unexpirience, and hey you not totally new to it if youve already been cheerleading before.

Now im sure you'll do fine so go get on that cheer squad! =D let me know who it goes.
Good luck,
Vikki x

im a captain to an all stars team and i dont know how to get them to listen and then get them to understand your squde is like a family and theres no i in team please give me help or advive on wat to do im soo lost!

i totally agree with the 2 other answers totally.me being me though i think i would throw a stunt up (more if your confident your teamates wont drop your flyer)and say things like " what would happen if [things that would cause your flyer to fall]"and go on to say how the bases spotters and flyers are all one team, without all of the stunt components you dont really have a team (well ecluding spotters but then agen you wont need spotters really when your team becomes a family =) )throw up all kinds of different stunts - with differentr bases and flyers each time. try pairing people up and do some drills like sit ups and see who can do the most etc etc (be creative! =D)Get your coach to give a few hints when your practicing routines.Dont be too mean to them - or they might never listen to you! pay them compliments and such and such.Good Luck and let me know how your pep talks n stuffs go =)xXx

okay so i decided im gonna get my abs looking great =)

i know alot of things i can do but how often should i do them and for how long? i basically need a plan.

does anyone here have a good ab workout plan that works really good for them?

thank youu.

SIt Ups... Lots Of Them Every Day!
Vsits Tuu Will Help As Much
And Obviously Less Of The Sugary/Fatty Foods

Start Off You Plan As A Light workout
As Soon As You Get Accustomed To this.. Make It more Challengine Ie More Sit Ups..

Try To Make Your Workout Fit Into A Pattern Ie. Have It Around The Same Time Each Day. Ie After School/Work, In The Morning, Or BEfore Bed

Sorry About All the Capitals - Habit...
Good Luck!

Im fourteen, female.
I have a pool in my backyard and a few guy friends. And being a girl I cant ALWAYS go swimming.
Like, when that time of month comes around and if the boy across the street just happens to come over then I dont just want to tell him to go away. Im on my period. That would be awkward..
But Ive tried using a tampon but it just wont...GO IN! Urrrghh, its so frustrating. And Im not really willing to practice.
But someone told me quiite some time ago that 'it' stops underwater, which I hardly believe.
But do you have any suggestions?

I feel your pain. And ive heard that rumor too, and ive learnt from experience.. it aint true. Why dont you just sit by the pool.I mean if your also trying to imprss the guy especially... sit by the pool and kick/splash the water or sumthing =)seems like a very flirty technique. If you really want a get out of jail free card. Let him in but blame the fact you dont want to swin on-I dont want my hair wet-feeling slightly illBut I feel your pain about the tampon. I looked at myself with a mirror for a bit to like help understand where to put it... which helps... a bit i suposse. But if your a virgin ive been told you shud really use one.. as it hurts or sumthyn like that. But i wudnt know... as i havent actully got round to usin the damn thing lolanywaisBest of luckVikki

Hey Im back again editing my answer. Um LEtting you know, ive concered the fear of it lol, um yeah mirror=good help! Um the main thing is to relax you muscles down there - which i knwo is hard cuz ur tense down there as its the time of month ANYWAY, (which i guess makes being a girl better than being a boy - look at what we go through!) On your first time just deep breathes and close your eyes, think of a relaxing song or something to take your mind of things. honestly it does help. Um i dunno where ur frum buh im from the UK and tampax (pink ones) seem to work pretty gd for me. But good luck once again.
