I came to this site for advice about a man and love. That very question turned my entire world around and I have had my eyes opened to things I never noticed before.

Is sperm dead when it dries? I get really paranoid about this everytime my boy friend fingers me. I get my period everytime though. I just think its because in this life style we hear about 16 year olds getting pregnant. Im never going to be like that. I never had sex and i will not till i am older. I think that, if he touched himself by accident or before we saw eachother and he fingered me i could get pregnant. I always think that everytime. I know its not true because like i said before i get my period everytime. I get really paranoid when i dont have my period because i always get thouhts in my head and it really annoys me. Can you please help me and tell me what to think about this situation? I may sound wack but i am just wondering. Please HELP! I am a 14.

Just to kill off any upcoming rumor that may be posted: Sperm does NOT die when it hits air or oxygen.
However, when ejaculatory fluids dry, completely, then the sperm has died. Sperm cannot function in dry environment. There is an old myth that goes around saying that sperm can be reactivated, or come back to life, after it's dried if you moisten it with any fluid. This is NOT true. Dead sperm are dead. Completely dried sperm are dead, and even if you were to catch one or two that are just barely still alive, they would probably be fairly immobile if they were at the point of dry. Human sperm are actually fairly fragile creatures.
While a scientist in a laboratory setting can extract the DNA within the dead sperm cell and combine it with the DNA within an ovum (egg) to multiply, grow, and form life...it takes some pretty sophisticated equipment to achieve such results successfully.
If you have any concerns still, just have your boyfriend wash his hands before you two have play-time. As a matter of fact, he should always wash his hands before coming in contact with your vagina. Did you know that both major strains of herpes and some HPV strains can actually live under the fingernails and can be spread through unwashed hands? Always wash your hands! :)
