What's a turbo transmission, and what's it do?
also on the subject of transmissions, how hard would it be to find a lamborghini shifter. like the one on redline, where the clutch and all that is up by the steering wheel? because i've googled and googled but not found anything.
If you are referring to the turbo series GM has then I'll explain to you what I know. I've got experience with GMs (see profile) The "turbo" is just a name.
Common are the TH350 and TH400 TH means Turbo-Hydramatic These are both automatic transmissions with 3 forward gears and reverse gear. The TH350 was used for light duty and cars while the TH400 was used for trucks and heavy duty use. If you are wanting to put abuse on a transmission the TH400 handles very well. OEM, the th350 can handle 300ish + horsepower compared to the th400 of a stock 400 + Most drag racers, including myself opt for the TH400 since if built correctly can withstand 500 plus horsepower. These transmissions are called "bullet proof" not because they'll stop a bullet but because they are tried and true. As far as wanting a custom shifter, you may have to fabricate one. It would be easier to move the shifter to the floor. B&M has some great shifter conversions.

I also wanted to add that GM did use the th400 in cars too and used the th350 in trucks as well. Some of the older cars like the Camaro came with the th400 as well as some newer trucks with the th350. Usually the bigger the motor the bigger the transmission. Now, the th350 and th400 are interchangeable. If you are running a th350 you can run a th400 or even the overdrive version which is the 700r4. But that's another topic. LOL
