whats the difference between being christian and catholic? (link)
|
All Catholics are Christian.
Not all Christiand are Catholic. Much of what people refer to as "christians" are the various protestant sects that split from the Catholic Chrurch many, many years ago. Some such groups share more similarities to Catholicism than others, such as Lutheran and Anglican/Episcopalean.
Also to say "Catholic" refers to the religion.
To say "catholic" is a word that means "universal".
Yeah, a pedantic difference based on a capital letter, but it is a differnce.
EDIT: I've seen some people post some very bizarre interpretations of Catholicism in here, including things that are just very, very wrong - even coming from people who claimed to have been Catholic. Interesting. Catholics do not worship Mary, nor the Saints. People seem to misunderstand the meaning of certain prayers and the differnce between reverence and respect with that of worship.
