Only if your browser or one of its plugins (Flash, Java, etc.) has vulnerabilities. Keep your software up to date and you should be fine.

Hello. This is an odd question, but are you allowed to upload a picture in the 'upload a picture of you' section on the profile settings that ISN'T of you? For example, a picture of a cartoon character or maybe your family pet? I'm just being cautious of what I post in that picture since I cannot get a hold of a photo of myself.
You can upload any picture, but make sure it's not so big that it will massively stretch your column. Check your column afterward (refresh if you can't see the changes). Also, it's best not to upload images that you didn't create, as there may be copyright issues with them.
It's not a good idea to upload an actual picture of yourself anywhere on the Internet. It will be used against you in the future. I don't know why anyone here does it.

I want to get Sims Open for Business, but it's an expansion pack for the Sims 2. I have the original Sims but not the Sims 2. Can I just use the original Sims or do I have to buy the Sims 2 to be able to play open for business?

I have had an article published in a glossy magazine and I want to scan it (as is) onto my computer. I, eventually, want to put it onto my website (not created yet) and allow people to see the article exactly as it appears in the magazine. Would that be a pdf file or something else? How do I do this properly?
The scanner will output a large JPEG image. If the article is one page long, I would just use the image and would not bother with PDF. Use Irfanview to convert the JPEG image to PNG and to resize and crop if necessary:

If it's longer than one page, PDF would be appropriate. Install doPDF:

Format the article in a word processor as you wish it to appear in the PDF. Then print it to the virtual printer doPDF installed for you. doPDF will convert the printed document into a PDF file and save it to your computer. It will look exactly as it did in your word processor's "Print preview".

It's definitely the hard drive. It will probably need to be replaced, which will cost $100-200 plus labor ($400?).
There are a few things you could try to make the hard drive work without replacing it, but they are too complex to explain here. If you have any friends good with computers, ask them to help you.

i sort of dropped my laptop, less than 6 inches, onto the floor (but it landed on its bottom). one side hit before the other, and the other side i had a grip on so it didnt hit very hard, or even at all.
now when i try to turn it on a blue screen shows up saying that the system has recovered from a serious error.
any ideas on what may have happened or what i can do to fix it?
Some of the hardware (probably the hard drive) is damaged. Take it to a computer repair place. Don't turn it on anymore or you risk losing data.

A wireless router will allow you to transmit your Internet connection wirelessly, to any number of computers. Your laptop and desktop will both share your Internet connection, and they can access the Internet simultaneously. You must already have an Internet connection for a wireless router to work; it does not replace your Internet service provider.
You can buy a wireless router from any computer store or website. You are not required to buy it from your ISP, though they might offer them. They cost about $40-80. I recommend the Linksys WRT54G, which is powerful and will last many years without needing replacement.

In which states is it legal to drink alcohol under 21 while on private property? I got in trouble for drinking in a friend's basement while the parents were home and I'm 19 years old. My parents were like "if you're an adult and offered a drink in someones private home, is that really illegal?" or something to that effect. It's hard to keep up with the laws about this kind of thing, because they are always changing. Apparently this law was changed in Michigan (where i live). So, im wondering what states it is legal in? Also, the parental consent thing for adults 19-20 only works if you are in your parent's home and they are there, if there even is a parental consent exception in your state, right?
People under 21 are allowed to consume alcohol under the supervision of their parents in New Mexico, Texas, and Wisconsin. From what I can see, it is not legal in Michigan for someone under 21 to drink alcohol under any circumstances.

You can't reply properly. For minor things, I usually just edit my answers, enclosing the edit in asterisks at the top of the answer to make it more noticeable. However, the asker will _not_ be notified when you edit your questions.
When I need to add important information to a question I have already answered, I will use an alternate account so that the asker is notified. Alternate accounts are not against the rules as long as you disclose the fact that the account is an alt and you don't use it to evade a ban.

Their website is not very clear, but I believe that they will pay you to run link farms. While not illegal, doing this will have you working in direct opposition to Google. It's not stable. I wouldn't do it.

Use Windows Movie Maker. It should be in [Start -> All programs]. If you can't find it, go to [Start -> Run] (or press WinKey+R) and type:

After creating the movie in Movie Maker, go to [File -> Publish movie] or [File -> Save movie file]. Choose appropriate settings as instructed by the wizard and upload the resulting file to Youtube.
Note that [File -> Save] or [File -> Save project] will create files usable only on your computer. Youtube will not be able to process a file created in this way.

I would like to lose 36 pounds before August 16th. I know that's a lot. It is 3 pounds per week. I've heard that if you are obese enough then it is healthy to lose that much per week. I have also heard conflicting information that you should never try to lose that much that fast. My BMI is currenty 36.
