Hi, I call myself Ignatz after Dan Herriman's character in the old "Krazy Kat" comic strip. I'm 44, father of 3, husband to one, crazy about music and books and food and movies and history and martial arts. I've had some wild and crazy times in my life, and I figure I might as well put in some of my perspective.

I promise not to talk down to anyone or make fun,and I promise not to BS anyone. If you're old enough to ask a frank question, you're old enough to get a frank answer. Oh, and if you ask me a question directly, please be patient. I'll get back to you as soon as I can. My life's a bit hectic. :-)

i dont really know why but for some reason i want to be a stripper when im a little older
im 15. i know its bad but i just really like boy attention..is something wrong with me (link)
What Razhie said. Seriously. For an idea of the working conditions you could expect as a stripper, check here: http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/tens1.html These are the rules for an upscale club. More down-market clubs would ostensibly be worse places to work. The hours are long, the customers can get out of hand, and the club owners are primarily focused on getting as much money out of you as possible. (Good luck getting health insurance.)

If you're still interested in performing to an audience (and getting attention), you might want to consider belly dance or burlesque.

It is 68 outside and 78 in here. Yet I have all the windows open and a fan going (I have no ceiling fans though). I don't understand why it is 10 degrees different outside.

I'm in a 2 bedroom apartment, what can I do to draw cold air in? Thanks. (link)
Part of the problem is the physics of air flow. Moving air is cooler than still air. Are there windows on two sides of your apartment, or are they all on one side? If you can create a cross current that will pull air through your apartment, that will help cool the place down. As others have said, put a fan in your window to draw cool air in. If you can, angle another fan so it blows air up to the ceiling. The air will be hottest there, so if you move cool air from the floor upwards that will help cool the place off. If all else fails, build a primitive air conditioner: get a big block of ice and put it in a pan in front of the fan. The air moving across the ice will be much cooler, and will cool off your apartment. Good luck.

I'm constantly renting movies and would just like some ideas on really good movies. I like romances (like The Notebook, Titanic), and historical movies (The Other Boelyn Girl) and comedies (My Best Friend's Girl).

Any ideas?
What's your favorite?

-Thanks (link)
"Shakespeare in Love" is great historical romance. If you don't mind subtitles, check out "Juana la Loca", the story of Queen Juana of Castile's obsessive love for King Philip of Aragon. For more modern history, check out "The Lost City" about the Cuban Revolution (great soundtrack, great acting, and beautiful cinematography). Also, definitely check out "Cyrano de Bergerac", with Gerard Depardieu.

Comedies: "Liar Liar" is brilliant, as are The Marx Brothers "Duck Soup", "A Night at the Opera" and "The Cocoanuts". Classic screwball romantic comedy: "Bringing Up Baby". And pretty much any Danny Kaye musical is worth watching, but I have a soft spot in my heart for "Wonder Man" and "The Court Jester".

Hope this helps.

I absoloutly LOVE music more than anything! Piano is my favorite hobbie, but I seem to have got caught up with other things and I worry way too much and music is what I depend on...but everyday I listen to it. but I want to PLAY it. Is there anyway I can focus on ONLY my music? (link)
There's a technique that author Cory Doctorow uses for writing. Every day, he sets aside twenty minutes with no interruptions or distractions to do nothing but write. He doesn't do research or answer e-mail or anything else; he just writes. This is a major thing for him, since he's got a baby daughter and a tech-writing career and all sorts of distractions.

If you want to play, then play. Take twenty minutes and just play. Don't worry about anything else; just play. That will help clear your mind and calm you down.

I made a cake today from scratch, same recipe I have been using for about 15 yrs now. This was the first time it actually over flowed in the oven..what a mess it made.(used same size pans)
I checked the recipe several times I did everything right. It was a choc cake recipe, called for 1 tsp baking powder, 2 tsp baking soda, and the usual 2 cups flour, 1 tsp salt,¾ cup cocoa, 2 cups sugar, 1 cup veg oil, 1 cup hot coffee, 1 cup milk, 2 eggs, 1 tsp vanilla..
that's the recipe, any thoughts on what could make this happen? To me the cake does have an odd taste to it. But...hubby says it's fine, he'd say that as he wants choc cake so bad tonight for dessert. So...can something I used be bad even though they are not old?
Thanks for any feedback on this.. (link)
It may be the coffee.

Baking powder has two components, sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and either tartaric acid (cream of tartar) in single-acting or sodium aluminum sulfate in double-acting baking powder. The sodium bicarbonate reacts with whatever acids are present in the liquid batter and starts producing carbon dioxide. When the batter heats up to 140 degrees F, the sodium aluminum sulfate starts reacting and produces more carbon dioxide. This results in a lighter cake, biscuit, cookie, whatever.

Coffee just out of the pot usually measures 205 degrees F. It's also pretty acidic. The combination of heat and acid from the coffee may have started the aluminum sulfate going earlier than usual and caused your cake batter to overflow. You might want to try cold coffee and see if that makes a difference.

Or not. I'm not a chemist; I don't even play one on TV. I just watch Alton Brown a lot. :-)

I'm a 15 year old girl, 5'5" and about 165 pounds. I have muscle too but there's also fat like in the rest of my body I want to get rid of. I've just been gaining wait.. since last year I've been like "Okay, I'm going to stop binge eating and start running for 1 hour everyday" but then I end up binge eating and then hoping to go running soon.. making excuses and stuff. Its so annoying. I really want to be around 110 pounds, though, and don't need comments on if you don't think its a good weight or whatever, I just want to know how.

I dont want to go anorexic/bulemic cause it sounds gross and its unhealthy. I dont know how to eat better as like I eat what my parents make. We rarely ever eat out but from now on I'm never buying lunch from school again. But like my family makes traditional African (Cameroonian) foods and being in America i see like other sugary things and it makes me want to eat that stuff but we don't really have that stuff in my house so i subsitute this with eating sugar, like putting sugar on my corn flakes or cheerios, or binge eating whenever we get more sugary stuff which makes my mom not like to buy stuff like that cause of the binge eating. its so annoying. like i do it with ice cream or nutella.. im like 'this is the last time' but i just keep doing it. i've been doing it since i dont know, i was like 9 or 10? but its gotten worse each year. it wasnt like this when I was in England when I was younger and skinny. Stupid American portions. But like in lunch when we get so much food, i've been taught to finish whats on my plate so its weird to like throw food away.. especially since I dont want to waste money. For that reason I'm not buying lunch anymore.

I think my problem is snacks. Like we dont really have snacks other than fruits so often i get bored with eating them or when fruits are finished i end up binging on something sugary or something. my mom says snacks arent really important but i think a variety of healthy snacks will. i need examples so i can tell my mom to buy them. like as healthy as possible.. my mom just bought nutrigrain bars and im worried at my impulsiveness if I'm going to binge on those. So what are a variety of cheap healthy snacks we could get regularly?

And is there a website with very healthy recipes for food, or like recipes like on that new show "Cook yourself thin" where like it reduces the calories? If i have to help my mom cook to get skinnier I'll try! and then i'll learn how to cook better so its a win win, lol

And finally, EXERCISES! would it be a good idea to run for 1 hour before school and/or after school, or 30 mins before and/after school to reach my goal in my goal time? would running just solve all my problems? i feel its more effective than riding my bicycle.. cause i dont have great stamina and am often embarassed during gym class when we run cause i end up being the slowest cause i cant keep up the tempo. i mean its not like im not athletic. I play volleyball but im off season and unfortunately my parents wouldnt let me do club vball this year so basically my exercise has been like about 20 mins of gym class. but are there other ways to target my problem areas.. which are pretty much everywhere cause everywhere gets fat? its like all around my body, ugh. Like put a website with these exercises and how to do them, or really describe it and stuff. I need a work out plan then if running alone won't solve it. Like a basic outline of how to manage my time with that and how long i should spend doing things..

I need motivation! I dont have an ipod which really sucks but I have to make do with that. I really want to reach my goal but how to just.. get out there? What do you do or what tips do you know about how to just go and exercise? I know it will get easier overtime but how to just start it? I really want to be skinny cause I'm moving to a new town and I wanna get new clothes that will look good on me. I dont like going shopping now because I'm not at my ideal weight yet. But at the same time, I need new clothes. I rarely get to go shopping for clothes (this school year I've gone like twice in total) which makes it worse.. I like want to only buy things when i really like how i look. I mean I'm pretty but I can be like a lot prettier if I was skinnier definately. It would really help my self esteem, too.

So basically i need a work out plan & eating plan (w/ recipes for very healthy meals and healthy snack ideas on websites) and tips in general too.

Thanks a lot!!! (link)
Sounds like you've got a carb/sugar addiction going. High doses of carbohydrate and sugar in the diet cause the brain to release opioids, which give you a rush along with the burst of energy you get as the sugars metabolize. Over time, you get addicted to the opioids, and you crave them. Also, your pancreas overproduces insulin, which strips all the glucose from your bloodstream and makes you hungry.

Fortunately, there are ways of getting around this. I've used the Carbohydrate Addict's Diet (CAD) with some success; I lost about 60 pounds over 8 months. Basically, eat 2 low-carb meals and 1 high-carb meal per day. Breakfast could be an omelet with peppers and scallions and a little cheese, lunch could be a salad with herbs and cucumbers and radishes (no onions or carrots; very high-carb), dinner is whatever you want, including dessert, but you must eat within 60 minutes. The diet works on lowering insulin production; the less insulin in your system, the less hungry you feel. You can eat healthily and lose weight, and still get the foods you like (and not offend your parents by refusing to eat what they make for dinner.) Definitely skip school lunches and bring a salad. :-) Snacks should be protein rather than sweets or chips: a piece of cheese (some people swear by Laughing Cow), or a tin of sardines (my personal favorite, but I'm weird).

Google Carbohydrate Addict's Diet and you'll find more info about what foods can and cannot be eaten, the science behind insulin resistance and carb addiction, etc.

Hope this helps.

ok I looked into Vicente Fernandez, i really liked him (Marioneta, Para Siempre, Sublime Mujer, These are perfect but i couldn't really find too many upbeat songs- now El Chofer is too polka sounding for my taste, so not that) now i liked Lucha Reyes, but with Chavela Vargas i also couldn't find any upbeat. Like that antonio banderas song el mariachi. you know especially that long belty note that they do sometimes at the begining of songs...like Carmen Linares and Carlos Saura...they are more flamenco...but do you know some singers who sing with that upbeat tempo or the same ones you gave me but some upbeat songs? thank you :) (link)
Well, unfortunately I'm no expert on traditional Mexican music (there are people who get doctorates in the subject), so I can't give you too much guidance as far as individual songs. As far as the history goes, flamenco singing is much older than ranchero. Flamenco is native to southern Spain, and has many similarities to north African and Middle Eastern styles of singing (southern Spain was ruled by north African Muslims for 700 years). Ranchera is a mix of several styles, including flamenco and German/Czech polkas from the Rio Grande region. If you're not up for polkas then there may not be much upbeat stuff to your taste.

Check out a group called Ojos de Brujo if you like flamenco: flamenco vocals over hip-hop beats. Pretty tasty.

Ok. I sing, I like to learn different styles of singing. The one I am interested in right now is Spanish Mariachi. Specifically kinds like this (sorry they aren't the best songs but they are what I know :P) Antonio Banderas-El Mariachi, EL Cascabel (I don't know who it's by) and the song in happy feet My Way (A Mi Manera) sung by Robin Williams...the style it's sung in. Especially the begining. I really like Cahro as well. In Thumbalina Charo sings a song called On The Road. The begining of the song. that style. Does anyone know any good bands (especially women singers) that I could look into that would help me learn to sing in this style. Thank you so much! (link)
The style you're referring to is known as 'ranchera', and is originally from the state of Jalisco. The undisputed king of ranchera is Vicente Fernandez, but there are several queens. Chavela Vargas, Maria de Lourdes, and Lucha Reyes are three of the classic ranchera singers, and a good place to start if you're curious.

I have an insane fasination with pro wrestling.I always think about it.all my life I said I wanted to be something like a singer or lawyer, and then I'd not want to do it cuz i thought it wasn't for me.But all of a sudden I wanted to be a pro wrestler and no matter what I still feel like it is what i'm meant to do with my life. Am I destined to be a pro wrestler? (link)
That's entirely up to you. Have you ever wrestled? You may try it and decide that it's not your thing.

Were I in your place, I'd start training up. Given your gender, standard high-school wrestling may be difficult to take up. A much easier option would be judo or jujitsu; you'll get the experience in grappling and pinning opponents. Not everything will apply to pro wrestling, but you'll find out if you have a taste for it. If you're still down for it, then look up a pro wrestling school at http://www.pwwew.net/people/schools.htm and sign up when you're old enough.

It's a hard life, particularly for a woman in the sport. Look for a film called "Lipstick and Dynamite", which is a documentary about women wrestlers in the 1950s. Things are better now, but they're not ideal. It's still very much about your looks rather than your athletic ability.

Hope this helps.

I don't know the first thing about playing guitar.. but I've always wanted to learn. I have this cheap acoustic, and no money for lessons... so is there any way I'd be able to learn it easily enough through some sort of website?

One of the first songs I want to learn is "This Boy: by James Morrison. Any tips?
(link)
The classic source for at-home guitar study is Mel Bay. (www.melbay.com) They have all sorts of guides out there for beginners, in all styles. The books are cheap, and you can usually buy DVDs to go with them. Youtube has a lot of guitar lessons as well.

Hope this helps.

Hey, so I'm a huge music freak. I'm eclectic, meaning I love all music. The only thing I've noticed is that I don't have a lot of jazz. I thought I did, but I sure don't. So does anyone know any really great (or not so great) jazz artists out there that they'd like to share? (link)
Hoo boy. You just asked a severely complex question. Jazz has nearly 100 years of history to pick from, any number of sub-genres and styles and variations, so you've got a lot of exploring ahead of you. Here's a list of some essential albums:

Thelonious Monk: Solo Monk
Miles Davis: Kind of Blue
John Coltrane: A Love Supreme
Dave Brubeck: Time Out
Charles Mingus: Mingus Ah Um
Billie Holliday: Lady in Satin
Duke Ellington: Ellington at Newport 1956
Herbie Hancock: Headhunters

Not an essential album, but fun: Red Hot + Cool (early '90s acid jazz stuff. hip-hop, soul & jazz all dropped in a blender.)

15/F
SO, I've got no talent.
I'm an awful singer, my hands are FAR too small for guitar or piano, and we haven't got the money for lessons anyway.
I always feel pretty depressed about it. Does anyone have any ideas for me?
Any cheapish instrument I could try and ways I could teach myself?
Or maybe some way I could improve my voice? Because frankly, I think it sucks.
I just want a little something to perk me up.

I deeply admire Helen from I Haunt Wizards, Kate Nash, Katy Perry, and Lily Allen.
Just thought I'd throw that out there.
Thanks :] (link)
A cheap, yet versatile instrument is the ukulele. You can get simple models for as little as $20. The fingerboard is narrower than a standard guitar, and there are fewer strings to mess with. YouTube has a number of tutorial videos available.

Another option is the cigar box guitar; you'd have to build it yourself, but it's really cheap and perfect for someone with small hands. http://washuu.net/Musical/nicotina.htm has step-by-step instructions, including frets for a diatonic scale. (No sharps or flats, and every chord you play sounds good.)

As another commenter has stated, recorders are cheap, at least the little plastic soprano ones are. You'd have to learn to read music, but there are lots of manuals and so forth out there. There may even be a recorder society in your area, which would effectively teach you for free.

And don't let your singing voice bother you. Lou Reed and Bob Dylan both have terrible singing voices, yet they've been successful artists since the 1960s.

Hope this helps.

hey im looking for some good unknown bands like cocoon or singers like sufjan stevens. male preferably . thanks! (link)
Seth Augustus will warp your brain with bizarro post-nasal Tuvan delta blues and avant-punk lyrics.

Sun Sawed in 1/2 is a now-defunct power pop band from St. Louis who are popping up all over Youtube. Great melodic pop, part Beach Boys close harmony and part Matthew Sweet melancholy.

Check out Lunabee+Swann as well. Wondrous electronica and trip-hop.

All this stuff is on Youtube and MySpace.

la gringa la conosco hace como un año creo la conoci por trish

can anyone tell me what this means? someone left it on my boyfriends page and my names trish
i jus wanna know what the kid said lol
thanks :) (link)
"I've known this white girl for about a year, I think I knew her as Trish."

I'm going to a club, and I've never been to one before. I was wondering, how many 1's do I take? I don't want to run out, but I also don't want to show up with a ridiculous amount of money lol. I was thinking 20-30 at most? (link)
Bring at least 30; 40 will go even farther. Be generous, and be respectful. These ladies are doing a difficult and occasionally thankless job, so don't act like an idiot. Try not to use the ATMs in these clubs; the surcharges are often $10. You can get change, though. Again, good luck and have fun.

I'm a girl. I want to go to a strip club, just to see what its like. How weird would it be to go with my boyfriend, his friend and his girlfriend? Would it be really awkward? And is it true that most of the strippers are nasty (at most clubs)? I mean I'm from Rhode Island and there really aren't any premiere strip clubs haha. (link)
A lot of it will depend on your comfort level, and the club you choose. Premiere clubs tend to attract the best-looking dancers; smaller clubs may have less-attractive ones. It all depends on your particular tastes in female beauty.

How comfortable are you with the idea of a woman hitting on you, or appearing to? Keep in mind that the dancers are there to make money. Since you and another woman will be there, the dancers may focus on you in an attempt to get the guys with you to cough up more money. They may put your hands on them in ways that they wouldn't allow a male customer to do, or do more suggestive dancing for you, bring you up on the stage with them, etc. If you're not comfortable with that, then don't go.

Bottom line: do research. Google the names of clubs in your area; chances are you'll be able to find some information about atmosphere, prices, cover charge, etc. For your first visit, if you can manage it, I'd suggest going to a more upscale club. Going to some little joint in the middle of nowhere is probably not going to be much fun.

Hope this helps.

Well you see I was born in Australia, but I'm a syrian citizen (because my father is syrian)

But I live in Egypt.

Well I want to know If i want to go and live with my half brother in Australia would that be possible?

My parents are divorced and both are kind of abusive and they don't care if i don't live with them. I'm 14 years old and my Brother is 25

I have two uncles, one unte and my grandmother, and two half brothers live there, and they are Australian citizen.

I'm not sure it's possible for me to be a citizen i seriously have no clue, so I want to go and live with my half brother and he is alright with it and wants me to live with him, and take full responsibilty, and my parents don't want me to live with them well they can't afford it.

So what can I do to be an australian citizen with this information, I am under 18 so ...

Thanks for any help =] (link)
If you cannot regain Australian citizenship, it may be possible for you to emigrate if you are sponsored by an Australian citizen. Since you have family there already, it may be possible for you to emigrate even though you're a minor. Again, contact the Australian Embassy, or check this website: http://www.migrationbureau.com/australia/immigration.php.

Best of luck.

if you have butt sex can you get pregnant? (link)
Short answer: no.

Long answer: no. Semen has to enter the uterus via the vagina. The rectum is separated from the vagina by tissue, and it's impossible for semen to pass from the rectum into the uterus. They're completely separate systems, totally isolated from each other.

Hope this helps.

I have this social studies project where I have to find primary sources about 1920s film and radio. Any suggestions? (link)
A primary source is a source from that time period. Are you supposed to find newspaper or magazine articles about film and radio, or actual radio programs and films? Most public libraries will have newspaper and magazine archives. If you live close to a college or university, they may have periodicals going back over 100 years. If you need to find actual programs, try searching on line. Archive.org has a lot of old archived material.

Hope this helps.

I have almost daily knee and hip pains from sports. Whenever I have sex my hips start to hurt, especially when I'm on top, thats when its the worst. It gets so bad that I'll have to stop..and I don't want to because I love being on top but I can't physically bear it. Is there anything I can do to reduce the weight thats put on my hips? I'm not even heavy, I'm about 115lbs and 17 and I feel like an old woman. (link)
Have you spoken to a doctor? Joint pain at your age is not normal, and may indicate a more serious condition. Get yourself checked out so you can rule out the possibility of arthritis or other problems.

Does the pain get better if you don't play sports or exercise for a while? Is it worse when your legs are splayed and your hips open? You may need to adapt and curtail your activities and give your joints a rest. Again, talk to a doctor about your knees and hips.
