only answer this if you've read the clique books by Lisi Harrison.
Well, i'm 14/f and massie block is like, my idol. i have brown hair, brown eyes, but i'm not super skinny. i'm like 5'3" and 109 pounds...but i have a charm bracelet like hers and a really good wardrobe. i mean, i don't wear anything that's not a designer (and i don't call abercrombie or anything a designer, i'm talking juicy, lacoste, burberry, dior, tory burch, etc). anyway, i'm saving my money and by the end of the summer i should have about 800$. i don't know if i should get a down comforter and a bunch of new clothes, or get my sidekick professionally studded purple, or get a bunch of new shoes, or a prada messesnger. what would be the most massie thing to do?

i think that massie would most likely get the sidekick. not that she would be able to save her money that long. haha. second choice would probably be the comforter. it seems like she uses her sidekick more than anything else.

i know what believe in but i dont know if there is a religion for that.

i believe in a higher being of some sort, but i dont exactly know what it is.

i do and always have believed in reincarnation, that when you die, your soul lives on until it has reached peace with the earth.

i believe the body should remain clean and nothing unnatural should go in it. like that's why i dont believe in taking most medicines.

i believe that everything happens for a rason, whether it be good or bad.

i pray sometimes, i just dont know exactly what i pray to.

does this sound like a religion you practice or know of?

what do you believe in?

part one sounds like agnostic. part two sounds like hinduism. part three sounds like scientology. part four sounds like christianity. part five sounds slightly agnostic. but here's what i think... there is a big difference between being religious and being spiritual. i think you are more spiritual than religious. you have your own beliefs, and you follow them. however, religion is like organized spirituality. and there doesn't seem to be a particular religion that you derive your beliefs from. i'm more spiritual than religious, too, and i agree with a few of your beliefs. you can't really put a label on that. i mean, i label myself as methodist, but there are other things that i believe too. that's just spirituality though.

ugh, i'm trying to teach myself guitar and it's really frustrating. i'm trying to figure out which fingers to use when i'm plucking the strings -(violin player, sorry) i've been only using my thumb and i know that that's worng. help?!

i use my thumb a lot too, so it's not entirely wrong :) i also use my pointer finger and middle finger on the higher pitched strings. that's when i'm fingerpicking though, like if you're playing classical guitar or something (which i don't). but if you use a pick, it's much easier- you basically either hit the string from the top or from the bottom, depending on what's easier (probably from the top). but with the plucking thing, it's what feels right to you. here's something that might not make sense over the internet... stick your right hand out and pretend like you're opening a door (with your hand around the imaginary doorknob). okay, now leave your hand like that and place it on the strings. your hand should be curved and a few of your fingers should be touching the strings. so that's the shape your hand should make when you pluck. with your thumb, you pluck down, and with your other fingers you generally pluck up. if you're still having trouble, look for tutorials on youtube :)

I'm going to describe how I dress and I would like you to try to classify me as whatever typical highschool clique you think i sound like.(prep, goth, etc.)

I have several vera bradley purses and I carry them often, I own 2 lacoste polos, but that's all the designer stuff i have. 99% of my clothes are from american eagle, Delia's, A&F, Aero, and Hollister. I also have some emo items from hot topic that I don't really wear that often though. I have really fair skin but I wear black eyeliner and black mascara. Always. I don't always wear jewelry, but a lot of times I'll wear a necklace from AE.

so what do I sound like to you? Oh, and if it helps- I'm always involved in theater. I don't know if that matters though.

hmm... well, you sound like you are part prep and part creative theatre kid. it's hard to judge because i don't know you in real life. i mean, i know a few people who dress similar to you but they are all so much different from each other! one of the people i'm talking about is on golf team and loves to cook, and another one is a flower child who loves to take pictures. so it's difficult. you just sound like you, to be honest.

How many hours a day is it okay to have your rubber bands off?

Because I always sleep in them for the whole night but I have them off at random times during the day.

Do they LITERALLY have to be on 24/7?

thanks

no, like when you eat or brush your teeth you can take them off. but here's a little secret... it doesn't really matter that much if you take them off, because when i had rubber bands i had to have them for like 6 months and i didn't wear them once. and i got my braces off at the same time as i would have if i had had 6 months of rubber bands. so i'm not telling you to not use your rubber bands, but don't stress about it if you forget to put them back in or something. it's actually really good that you sleep in them though.

I was magnifying stuff, and i magnified a two dollar australian coin, and at the "queen" side, at the bottom of her neck, there was writing engraved REALLY SMALL WRITING, saying RDM.
Does anyone know what it stands for or what it means?

i actually looked at one just now, and i think that it would be the initials of the artist who created the mint that they used for that coin. there isn't an artist signature anywhere else, so i think that's what it is.

does sloming ( sticking leeches on myself) actually exist? like do any of youu know people who do it or did they make it up for the commerical?

thankssssssss

haha, that's one of my favorite commercials... no, it doesn't exist. but when you saw it, didn't you think, "hey, that is really dumb!" that is the meaning of it... the company who made the commercial was trying to show how incredibly stupid addictive things like drugs and alcohol are and how it's not really even cool. it's as stupid as sticking leeches on yourself.

About 3 weeks ago i noticed a spot ( not a mole ) on my nose, on my left nostril its not bumpy or anything its just a tannish circle its small what is it? does it have anything to do with the sun or something?

14/f

i really think it's a freckle. freckles can be all sizes. i've heard that lemon juice makes freckles go away, so you might want to try that.

So, I guess I can read and comprehend them, but does it not list which finger you should use for each one listed or does it not matter? Also, when it says to play a "D" note...how can you tell which octave? I know, octave probably is not the right term, but you get what I'm trying to say...hopefully! Thanks!

some tab books that you can buy do list the finger you could use, but that's really by preference. just use which fingers feel right to you. as for the d note, it should tell you... if not, listen to the song you're trying to play and see if you can tell by that. as you probably know, d is the third string, so maybe it means just to pluck that. i'm not sure. i've never seen anything that said to play a d note without telling what octave though. just take a guess, haha :)

when shaving your legs are you sposed to shave opposite the hair is growing or the way hair is growing and why?

opposite (or up the leg) because that way more hair is removed. you can do it the other way if you feel like it, but opposite is best.

what are some modern bands that are like similar to 60's/70's hippie music?

thanksss =]

like the other columnist said, i agree that jet is very good. it's a little bit hard to find music like that. maybe try listening to modest mouse? also, oasis is sort of like the beatles too. i like franz ferdinand too. open up itunes or whatever and search for some of those and see if you like them.

my friend is masically the coolest one in our little "group". Anyways, everyone loves the expressions she uses. She says things like "OH BABY" and "come on noww". Anyways, are there any expressions that I can use that are kinda cute/clever/funny? THANK YOU SO MUCH. %% thanks %%

my spanish teacher always says "no, no" but i can't exactly explain the way she says it. it's like she says them as one word. also, if something is gross, you can say that it's grody. it's hard to explain, but have you ever watched shows like the o.c. or anything? you should try watching some shows like that because they say lots of clever stuff.

What are some good jazz songs that would be fun to sing too? I have this Audition and I wanted to sing a fun upbeat jazz song for it. Any Ideas?

"it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing" is probably a really good one. not sure who it's by, but basically every female singer ever has done it. also, "you'd be so nice to come home to" is one of my favorites as well. it's not as upbeat as the first one, but it's still really catchy.

EDIT: i didn't think of this one before, but "love" by nat king cole is one that everybody knows and can sing along to.

What are some good 1940s big band songs? I like Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller...

i love that kind of music! in jazz band we play: sing sing sing (benny goodman), in the mood (benny goodman), string of pearls (glenn miller), you'd be so nice to come home to (it's my favorite, it's by cole porter but sung by lots of people), witchcraft (frank sinatra), it had to be you, leap frog, stompin' at the savoy... that's all i can think of. also, if you like ragtime there's scott joplin... he's really good. there's also a song that i really like called "moanin'" and i'm not sure who it's by, but it's not the charles mingus one. it's the same name but it's different. you can probably search for it on itunes.

are freckles harmless or are they a sign of sun damage?

they are harmless. however, they are a sign that you are more prone to skin damage than somebody who has no freckles. you can get freckles from being out in the sun a lot. i forget the scientific-ness of it, but a freckle is basically a gathering of your skin's protective pigments in one spot (i think?). so that means that since your protective skin parts are more concentrated in one spot, you are more likely to get sunburned in those other areas. but they are harmless. if you go to a dermatologist, you might want to ask them because they would know a whole heck of a lot more than i know. a lot of my friends have freckles on their shoulders too, from being out in the sun. i have a couple of freckles around my nose... people tell me they're cute, so they can't be that bad.

is there a website that shows what college you can get into with a certain gpa? mine is about a 3.7 or something and i need to know which i would be able to be accepted to

collegeboard.com is going to be your best bet. they have lots of information about college. if your sat/act scores are as good as your gpa, you will be able to get into most colleges (like state schools, depending on where you want to go).

Yesterday I went to a funeral for a friend that recentley died (june 16, 07) Its so unreal, I cannot believe that it had happened.
Our whole school was basicly at his funeral, or thinking of him and his family.
It was so unexpected and random, why him?
I'm having sucha hard time grasping the fact that he's gone, and I could cry and cry,
I wasnt even that CLOSE to him, like some others, and I seem to be showing so much more emotions about it.
What do I do? Have any of you ever lost any friends?
he was only 16.

i am 15, and this past november over thanksgiving breaks one of my good friends died of a brain aneuryism. it was so weird because she had been perfectly healthy the week before at school. then she was gone, just like that. we sat next to each other at lunch for three years, and it was so sad coming back to school and her not being there. it does take a lot of time for it to sink in that your friend will not be at school anymore. good things to do are to talk to your friends about it... it seems like almost every day, one of my friends remembers something about the friend that we lost. the other day, i was at a pizza restaurant in my city, and as i was ordering i remember exactly what my friend had ordered every friday night after football games. it's almost as if my friends and i don't realize that she's dead... it's like she's gone away somewhere, like to summer camp, and she just won't come back for a long time. we still talk about her in the present tense. the best thing is to talk about it. i don't know how religious you are or anything, but at her funeral it made me feel a lot better when the speaker said, "we don't really know why god took her from us... maybe he needed another french horn player in his heavenly orchestra. maybe he needed another flag twirler for his flag corps..." there is no immediate thing that you can do to make yourself feel better or forget... the best thing that you can do is remember. you might want to get a spiral and write down all the things you can remember about him. all the stories that you remember over the years. it will take some time to really hit you that he is gone... honestly, it still hasn't hit me that my friend is gone. it's best to grieve now and keep living your life. that's what your friend would want you to do. one of my other friend's dad was killed in an auto accident this week. the funeral was yesterday. it was just so unreal... and i honestly didn't even know the man. he lived down the street from me, his son was in my first grade class, he was my mom's doctor... but i did not know him. and now he's gone. there is nothing that anybody here can really do for you that will make you feel better about this. that's something that comes with time. i hope that you and your other friends are faring well, and if you need to talk, drop one in my inbox.

How come on YouTube when people play and sing along to acoustic versions of a song with the guitar, the word "cover" is almost always in the title? What does this mean?

cover means one band performs another band's song. it's like if i decided to play an elvis presley song. i'm not elvis, but it's still his song, so it's called a cover. local garage bands usually do covers of like green day songs or whatever.

I want to learn how to play guitar. i only have 300 dolars to work with. I want to know weather i should learn to play acoustic guitar or electric guitar first. And i have no idea where to buy it from do if you could give me an inexpencive brand name that would be good. Thanks

it really depends on what kind of music you're looking for. also, with your price range, i think that acoustic is better... you can get a good acoustic for 200 bucks, but with electric like the cheapest guitars (fender squier) are 200 bucks and then you have to buy an amp. they're also a little bit trickier. i would definitely recommend acoustic first for any type of music, though if you're really into punk or rock you might want to go with an electric... but keep in mind that if you want quality electric guitar stuff that it's going to cost you a lot. on the other hand, good acoustic guitars are taylor guitars and takamine guitars. you can go to a local music store (if you have a guitar center in your town that would be best) and ask the salesperson what guitar would be best. i personally like acoustic guitar better because if you start playing acoustic, you can play electric easier later. but if you start playing electric, it's more difficult to play an acoustic guitar. at least for me it is. if you go electric, go fender, gibson, or ernie ball. fender squier guitars are like 200 bucks, fender strats are like 400 bucks. i got my acoustic taylor guitar for like 100 bucks, and i like it just fine. i learned how to play that, and then i bought a fender stratocaster. good luck!
