advice
So, I got some sunburn a week ago. A couple of spots on my back & stomach are starting to peel. Well, I heard that if you peel, that spot where you peeled won't get tan for the rest of the summer, or it won't get tan ever again? Is that true? Can someone explain it to me? Also, what are the bad effects of peeling (besides the gross shedding skin thing) THANKS!
that's a myth, it can tan again. i say this from experience because my life is basically a peel fest. it's just a dead layer of skin coming off, and then there's a new layer under that that can tan/burn or whatever. i heard somewhere that if you've had like three blistering or peeling sunburns, then you are a little bit more likely to get skin cancer or something. it's not really a huge thing to worry about if you peel like once a summer though. just wear sunscreen. oh, and to speed up the peeling- exfoliate your back, and then put lotion/aloe vera on it.
There is this guy from my workplace that I know has a bit of a crush on me. I sort of like him back too. I had heard from several people that he had a drinking problem but so far it had just been rumours. Well last tuesday on my day off I went to the bottle depot and I ran into him. Initially he said hi, but then he got really quiet as we sorted bottles next to each other. All I had were empty diet pop cans, but he had boxes and boxes of empty beer cans. I sensed he was embarrassed because he was so quiet, and normally he's really talkative so I quietly collected my money and left. I just saw him yesterday at work after this happened, and his head jerked a bit when he saw me and then he looked away. He used to act sort of macho and cool around me, now it's as if someone has burst his bubble. I feel bad because we were finally getting comfortable around each other. Do you think he's embarrassed? And how should I act around him now?
if he has a drinking problem, that is his problem to fix. he doesn't need to involve you in it. he is probably worried that you think he is a sloppy drunk guy or something. don't bring up all the beer cans around him, and try to act normal around him. in a little while he will be back to normal. but who knows... maybe that was what he needed, getting embarrassed about one of his friends seeing how much he drinks. maybe that was enough for him to realize that he has a problem that he needs to solve. later on, if he starts to open up to you about it, just be supportive. but until then it's best to keep his problem under wraps. but the thing is, maybe he had a party or something and those aren't his beer cans. there are tons of different meanings for that. just try to be normal around him and in time he will be normal around you again.
alright so im soposed to go to warped tour, with my friend and i've just got this bad feeling that it's not gonna work out. this thing is in 4 days almost 3 now, and i dont have my tickets yet, and neither does she. the kids were soposed to be meeting up with already got their tickets and everything. thing is, shes just always so difficult, and i cant explain it. we get into arguments constantly and im to the point where i almost dont even wanna go anymore. so tonight i made her ask her dad when hes buying the tcikets and i heard him in the background, not giving a straight answer, and my mom was gonna buy mine like a while ago but she wanted to wait until her dad got hers, just because i know how they can be, so she suggested that she'd just pay me back the 36 something dollars and my mom would buy them. but my mom is saying "i know how they are, so i kinda want the money first, before i buy her ticket" and i agree, but shes not saying when her dad's gonna pay me back and im on the verge of just being like "forget it" and im so close to, but i need advice on what i should do? help!!?
this is what i would do: call your friend right now and be like, "listen up, you need to tell me yes or no on the concert right now. and if you don't give me an answer, my parents won't let me go." it won't hurt to lie a little bit. anyway, for warped tour there is lawn seating, so i am pretty sure that you can get tickets at the door for 36 bucks or however much. so instead of ordering them in advance (you don't have to), just tell her to get her act together and say yes or no on the concert. then, you two show up, you buy your ticket, she buys hers, and then it is general admission. and if she can't afford her ticket or whatever, tell her to wait by the car while you go have fun. it sounds like at this point you aren't too keen on going, so just tell your friend... hey, if you're going to be so difficult then i don't want to go with you anymore. if that happens, call up another friend and go with them! that's what i would do. i hope you get to go, and i hope you have fun :)
Enrollment is going on right now and I'm going to enroll on the very last day of enrollment x.x If I do, will I get a bad locker or do they just give out random lockers to people? Also, on the first day of school, should I bring a backpack + binder, or just a binder, or just nothing? Thanks!
judging by the answers you've gotten, every school is different. but if you enroll on the very last day, the classes you want might be full. and your schedule might suck. so think about that. at my school, nobody really uses lockers. actually, they don't automatically assign us lockers... we request them. since you're not enrolled yet, chances are if they assign you a locker, they've already assigned the good ones and you will get a crappy one if you don't hurry up and go up there and tell them you exist. on the first day of school i would bring a backpack and like some paper, and pens or something. don't show up with absolutely nothing though. anyway, good luck on your first day of school and i hope you get a good locker!
My hair is a freakish color of blonde! its coppery and i hate it. I constantly tuck my hair behind my ears, and when i untuck it it is all kinky. If possible, I'd like a shampoo or product that helps with taking chlorine out of my hair? Possibly lightening it and making it soft. I use biolage conditioner and it does make my hair soft, but it's greasy afterwards! Help needed! Thanks!
ahhh! i think we might have the same hair color! anyway, paul mitchell has a shampoo (in a white bottle, i think) that is for chlorine. to lighten your hair (or bring out the blonde highlights) i use pantene pro-v blonde expressions shampoo and conditioner. also, you can try using infusium 23 leave in conditioner- it is my best friend because my hair is so gross! i think the reason your hair is greasy is because not all of the conditioner is washed out. it really shouldn't be like that. the solution is to be more tedious when washing conditioner out, or don't use as much conditioner. also, only apply conditioner two inches below where your roots are. it helps your scalp not get oily. oh, and about your hair getting kinky: it helps me if i straighten it. you may not want to do that, but most of the time when i straighten it, my hair doesn't make weird shapes after i untuck it from behind my ears.
if i were to purchase an anti-nazi t-shirt, and wore it out, would i get dirty looks off people? like in the street, from ordinary people, not nazi's?
i don't think it would be a problem, actually. i mean, nazi germany is no more. the only thing is that, no matter what side somebody may be on, it may be kind of offensive... i have a friend whose grandparents were tortured in concentration camps. it's really scary, and not really to be taken lightly so some people find it offensive when others doodle little swastikas on their spirals or whatever. i mean, nobody really does that, that's just an example. if i were you i wouldn't wear it to school or work, but wearing it around town would be okay i think. i don't know, i don't really think it's a wise decision because it may be offensive, and that's because i've heard the stories that my friend told me. it's not something that i would do, but i highly doubt you'll get the crap kicked out of you by somebody.
13/f. so i know the fashion for most girls, is kinda tight jeans around the thighs and then lose ins done on the knee down. well im really skinny, i wanted to know if any stores sold pants like custom made, or for skinnier girls, because i want to wear my pants like that. the only way is if i wear very very shot capri's which end up looking like tight shorts. please help me.
-a skinny teen
well, i think the best places that would have those would be abercrombie or hollister. i think hollister would be best. also, at places like those, keep in mind that the sizes themselves are either tall, regular, or petite in jeans. so you might want to try the petite sizes to get the right length and everything. you could always get your pants tailored, but that could cost a lot of money. go look at the hollister website, and get your mom to measure you, and see what size you are :)
OK, so we know what lust and love is.. but is it bad to just be in 'lust' with somebody rather than 'love' even though you're like really good friends with the person?
it's bad if you act on it. i mean, sure, it's bad to have those thoughts, but we're only human.
if you have not fat but not thin.. ((kind in between)) arms and if you lift a weight for a while each day (5 pound weight) would the fat in your arms go away and get thinner, or would the fat remain and only the muscle would get stronger??
the fat would turn into muscle. so your arm would be harder because of the muscle, but still kind of in the same size range. if you do something like run a mile every day for a month, then that would zap fat all over, probably including your arms. so you would get thinner all over, since you can't really specifically lose weight in one place. but either way, the fat would go away. the only difference is, if you lifted weights it would all turn to muscle and your arm would be kind of big. and if you were on a track team or a swim team at school or something, your arm itself would probably get a little bit smaller. i'd say, if you're trying to make your arms smaller, run around your neighborhood or swim a few laps every day.
i like to wear my jazz shoes w/ out socks but lately they smell.
i'm too scared to wash them cause they're leather [split sole] but idk how to get the smell out.
if you go to academy or any sports store, they will have stuff that make your shoes not smell as bad. febreze also helps, but temporarily. you can probably get scented soles or something. i know you don't want to wash them, but it would be best if you start wearing socks (maybe those ankle socks) because then the sweat won't get in the actual shoe. do they have removable soles or anything inside? i think most tennis shoes do, but anyway, you could remove those and put them in the dishwasher or washing machine and see if it helps.
okay i need a new dress by next weekend because i have to go to a bar mitzvha and it has to be kinda formal but not to dressy and perfeibly black and a little of another color i also has to have sleeves not long sleeves and no spaghetti straps. and I'd like to show a little leg, I've tried target, wall mart, h&m, and fashion bug but i can come up with anything i like. so if you could possibly recommend a store (in ny plz).
thanks in advance
i was actually looking online for dresses today, and i'm not sure if you have these stores where you live, but i saw cute ones at: anntaylor.com, gap.com, bananarepublic.com, delias.com, and oldnavy.com. do you have a dillard's or macy's in your town? go look in the juniors department and you will be sure to find something :)
does anyone have any ideas on how to get my parents trust back?
my advice is to lay low for a while. for the next couple of weeks, try not to ask to go do stuff with friends or whatever as much. and when school starts again, do your homework and stuff. it kind of depends on what you did to lose their trust in the first place, but those are the basics for gaining it back. also, if you have a car, offer to go pick up dry cleaning or go grocery shopping or something. keep your room clean, too, in case your parents decide to peek in there. once you've shown them that you can pretend that you have your life together, you can go back to normal. also, after a while they will probably forget they were ever mad at you.
Would you rather have a small room with a bathroom in it or a big room
i would go with the bigger room. then again, i hardly ever have to go to the bathroom. if you're one of those people that pees like eight times in the middle of the night, you might want to opt for the smaller room. but i like to put a lot of useless crap in my room so bigger is always better.
i have to go buy some running shoes tomorrow for cross country. i dont have to buy any specific kind, just some that i am comfortable with. so, any suggestions? i would like them to be very lightweight and not too expensive
i've heard that nike shox give you little or no support and actually cause foot problems if you run in them often, so you might want to stay away from those. i suppose it depends on what foot type you are... my feet are basically shaped like skis, so i like new balance shoes to walk in because they are basically completely flat. but i like to run in nikes. i've not had good luck with adidas or asics, but a lot of my friends run in asics. i think asics are only like thirty bucks at academy. not sure on the nikes, but they might be a little more expensive.
Okay so I have really curly hair (15/m). But like only on the sides.
But I straighten it using a flat iron.
So it looks right (i have it emo-ish).
BUt yesterday I started summer band.
And we march outside for 4 hours a day in 100 degree heat.
And when I sweat my hair gets damp,
and it curls.
Is there anyway I can stop that?
Thanks
oh, i hate what marching band does to my hair. use a crapload of gel and/or hairspray. i'm guessing you like your hair better straight? because you could always just gel it curly or something instead of fighting it. which is probably not what you wanted to hear at all, haha. but yeah, if you use enough gel you can make it do anything... but your hair might get a little crunchy after the gel dries.
by the way, im 13 years old. i asked my mom why kids like me cant have debit cards. shes like, "you have to work to get one". i understand that credit cards are loans, so you'd need to work to pay them off, and if a kid has it, its cause a parent pays for it. at least.. i think that could happen, right? anyways, debit cards you put your own money into it. i have about 200 dollars in my bank account, and im like, why cant i have a debit card instead of carrying all the money around? and my mom said to ask the people at my bank which is annoying cause i barely get chances to go there, so i need money a lot when i already have it, but i cant use it till we go to the bank. so it makes no sense.. my mom says you have to be working to have a debit card but that makes no sense cause like kids can even have more money than some adults with debit cards who work at like flippen mcdonalds! ugggh why? is it cause we're not responsible or something and would lose it? adults can lose cards too. and yeah.. this makes no sense to me. explain please.
i think you misunderstood your mom when she said that you have to be working. here is how a debit card works: a debit card is linked to a checking account at your bank. a checking account is different from a savings account, so if you have 200 dollars in a savings account at your bank, you would need to open a checking account and transfer money into that. a debit card is essentially the same as writing a check (hence the checking account) except in card form... as in, when you pay for things, it deducts the money directly out of your account. anybody can have a checking account and savings account, but if you are under eighteen, i believe it is monitored/controlled by your parents. as in, i am sixteen, and i put all the money i earn from my job into my savings account, but my parents still basically have control over it (so when i go to college, they will probably take some money out of it to pay for that stuff). also, credit cards and debit cards are not the same thing! so don't make that assumption. as i said, the debit card withdraws directly from your bank account. the credit card is a little bit trickier, and you have to be careful with them. during the month, you purchase things on the credit card. then, you get a bill for that month. if you're financially savvy, then you pay the bill. however, a lot of people work themselves into credit card debt because they don't pay their bills and they keep buying crap. this is an example of an unintelligent credit card holder. if you try to do something like that with a debit card, that's definitely not going to work out. if you don't have the money in your checking account, then that's the same as writing a hot check- knowingly trying to pay for something with money that you don't have. kids can't get credit cards. you have to be eighteen to get one. kids can get debit cards though. but, you have to get parents permission, blah blah. back to the employment thing. your mom was telling you that you have to gain her trust/prove you can handle it/suck up to her in order to get a debit card. she didn't literally mean that you have to be employed somewhere (though that would help to get a paycheck if you're going to be spending money). keep in mind that if you lose your debit card, it is incredibly easy for somebody to use it and take all your money. when you use a debit card, you have two choices: you can run it as credit or debit. when you run it as credit, you are essentially running it as a credit card- all you do is sign the receipt. when you run it as debit, you enter your four-digit PIN and sometimes you sign it. so as you can tell, it would be really easy to copy the signature on the back of the card and run the card as credit. let me know if you have any more questions, but i think i just told you all i know :) oh, and you can use debit cards at ATMs to withdraw cash if you needed to pay for something in cash (or if you are in another country or something).
how is weed bad for you?
becides it gets you high and messing wiht ur mind
and health??
like my mom said smokeing pot [[dunno how much]] is equvlent to 10 cigrets??
thanks!
srry for spelling errors!!!
this question jumps out at me because there was something about this on msnbc.com today. the headline for the story was "one joint equivalent to 5 cigarettes". weed is bad because it is a drug and it is illegal. it is not as bad as other drugs, such as cocaine or methamphetamines. it messes with your mind, like alcohol but to a higher degree. it kills brain cells and can cause long term health problems. as for the thing i talked about on msnbc.com, i'm actually not sure how much a joint is because i don't smoke pot. i think a joint is like the size of one cigarette.
I'm having a graduation party and I'm renting a 33 ft long slip n slide.
With that I also am renting a concession machine. I have a to choose ONE of them. So if you could help me narrow it down, and put your FIRST AND SECOND chose.
- Nachos and Chesse machine.
- Swirl Drink Machine ( slushi like )
- Snow Cone Maker
- Hot Dog steamer ( cooks hot dogs )
Please help me chose one between these.
Thannk you!
my number one choicce is snow cone maker, and my number two choice is swirl drink machine. everybody i know loves sno cones, especially if it's hot enough outside to play on the slip n slide!
is thailand good for cheap shopping like for cute clothes?
yes, i know some people who went there on their honeymoon and got all kinds of good deals. the lady brought back this beautiful silk dress for only like three bucks!
out of sprite, coke, & sweet tea.. which is the healthiest to drink 3 times a week?
im guessing sprite since it has no caffeine? and everyones talking about how people lose so much weight when they stop drinking soft drinks since its cutting the caffeine? so would sprite be the 'healthiest'?
actually, the reason people lose weight when they stop drinking cokes and stuff is because of the sugar content, not the caffeine. although caffeine isn't good for you, that many calories in one drink is worse. so i think that coke would be the worst, sprite is probably the second worst, and sweet tea is still pretty bad because it has a lot of sugar. however, it's still tea so it's good for you. ultimately, water would be the best thing to drink three times a week, or even unsweet tea. but out of those three, sweet tea would be the best as far as not rotting your teeth... as i recall, one can of nestea has like 33 grams of sugar though. that's a whole freaking lot!
