about

Hey! =) People tell me I give really good advice, so yeah, just ask me anything, as long as its a serious question, and I'll do my best to help you out. Um, I play piano, sing, dance, run track, and paint so if you have a question on one of those topics I'd definetly be able to answer it =). I mostly listen alternative or rock music but I like all kinds of music for the most part. The Used, Something Corporate, Brand New, Jack's Mannequin, Taking Back Sunday, Incubus, Matchbook Romance, Bayside, Bright Eyes, Hidden In Plain View, Dashboard Confessional, American Hi-Fi, Straylight Run, My Chemical Romance, The Academy Is, The Beatles Red Hot Chili Peppers, 30 Seconds to Mars, and Rooney are freaking awesome bands =).
If you have a question about song lyrics,(for example "I know song lyrics but I don't know what the song is") I recommend you go to letssingit.com =).

advice

Hey! 14/f. I'm just wondering if anyone has every been through a situation like this: well I'm a freshman in HS now and I'm kinda worried about my lunch period. School hasn't started for me yet but I'm kinda concerned. My school starts at 7:15am, which means I'm going to have to eat breakfast before I go on the bus, which will end up being about 6:15-6:30 in the morning. My lunch period is going to be at 12:35pm. This means I will have to wait almost 6 hours to eat...and I'm kinda concerned because last year I could barely last 3-4 hours. Well I can't change my schedule or switch lunch periods, the school has already made it clear that we have to stick with the schedule they gave us. I just wanted to know if anyone had any ideas on what I can eat that will fill me up for 6 hours that I can prepare in the morning/or the night before school. Or any snacks I could jam in the hallway in-between classes. Thanks in advance!

Hey, I had a similar problem last year when I was a freshman. I had lunch at the very end of the day too. But, it's really not that bad once you get used to it. Last year, I would try to eat something other than just cereal, because cereal doesn't fill you up that much. Try eating oatmeal and maybe a piece of fruit. If you don't like oatmeal, try frozen waffles or pancakes that you can prepare easily. Try to avoid sugary breakfasts, like Poptarts, because they are really unhealthy and don't fill you up. It's kinda like the equivalent of eating a dessert for breakfast lol. The breakfast hotpockets are really good, too. As for eating in between classes, you can bring granola bars, rice crispy treats, or fruit snacks with you and eat them while walking down the hallway or put them in your backpack. You might be able to have a small snack in class, but it kinda depends on what teachers you have. Don't eat in class unless a teacher says it's okay. Good luck in high school. =)

Hurricane-Something Corporate
Bowl Of Oranges- Bright Eyes
No Lies, Just Love- Bright Eyes

im a 14 year old female and i was wondering what i can do to help my community. i want to work with animals or habitat for humanity i just want to do something and feel like i am making a difference.. i just dont know how or where to get started. if you could, would you please give me a list of things i can do to help out and how to get started. thanks in advance :]

It's great that you want to help out your community =). Join a club at your school that volunteers for things. I'm part of a club at my school called Interact and we volunteer to do different things in our town. We also have another club called Key Club that volunteers. So see if you have any of those kinds of clubs in your school and join them! You could also volunteer at a nursing home, volunteer at an animal shelter, help clean your local park, volunteer at a daycare or YMCA, etc. Look in your local newspaper or go to your town hall to find out things you can do. Have fun! =)

I'm auditioning for a musical (Throughly Modern Millie) and I have a few questions.

It says my song should be 24-32 bars long. How long in that in minutes/seconds?

Does anyone have any tips for singing? (I can't afford a voice teacher.)

I'm thinking about singing "If you got it, flaunt it" from The Producers. If I do, should I sing it with the accent? (If I don't, I'll sing "What I Did For Love" from A Chorus Line".)

Thanks.

If the song has to be 24-32 bars long, that really depends on how fast the song's tempo is, what the time signature is, (3/4 time, 4/4 time) etc. But if you are singing in an audition, they will usually tell you when to stop singing.
Before you sing, don't drink milk or eat any dairy products because it's not good for your voice. Have foods with vitamin C in them. Drink tea with honey in it; it will help your throat. Practice vocal warm-ups before your audition; if you have a piano, play a couple of scales to sing to, or get the sheet music for the song you're singing and play piano and sing at the same time, it will help.
If you're singing that song from "The Producers" I don't think you should sing it with the accent, unless you can pull off a really good Swedish accent lol. But, I would recommend you sing the song from "A Chorus Line" instead, so you wouldn't have to worry about the whole accent thing haha. Good luck with your audition. =)

I have two friends that dont really like each other. The one is my best friend and the one is my second best friend. Lately I have realized I have a tendency to sort of "talk trash" on one friend when I'm with the other one. I dont really mean to do it, and it isnt anything extremely big, but it just comes natural like if something is bugging me about one I come to the other to vent, and then I realize "oh crap" later. And I'm not talking major trash just little things. But even that feels like I'm stabbing the other in the back. I feel like I do this because I am so close with each that I feel like I can talk about anything with each of them, but then I feel terrible after I realize what I've done! How can I stop this nasty habit!?

Remember that you don't have to say anything just because one of your friends is talking about the other. For example, if one friend is talking about the other friend, don't say anything or comment on anything. Try to change the subject; say something like "i don't feel comfortable talking about her because she's one of my friends so can we just change the subject?" It would be very bad if someone told your friends that you talked about them, so try to stop this habit as soon as possible. Just remember that they are your best friends and try to focus on all of the positive things about them, not the negative. =)

I just finished my "popular" style song for my piano lessons. My only problem is...
WHAT SHOULD I PICK NEXT??

I don't like classical style much. I like really any kind of top 40 music, rock, alt., movies, anything but country really (sorry country people!)

I've been playing for seven years so "toughness" is no issue.
What are some songs (not necessarily just for piano... even songs like Dirty Little Secret that's been transcribed into piano form) that would be cool to play/hear on the piano?

Thanks!!!

Try some of these songs:

"Soliloquy" by Dropping Daylight
"Let It Be" by The Beatles
"Goodbye Song" by New Found Glory
"Bright Lights by Matchbox 20
"Imagine" by John Lennon
"My Immortal" by Evanescence
"Sometimes I Just Go For It" by The Used
"Existensialism On Prom Night" by Straylight Run
"Here In My Room" by Incubus

I've played all of these songs on piano before, and I couldn't find sheet music for some of them, but they're pretty easy to learn by ear.
I also highly recommend anything by Something Corporate or Jack's Mannequin. This website has sheet music for most of their songs.
http://myfriendadam.co.nr/

You could also try playing theme songs from movies, like songs from Pirates of the Carribean and such. The theme song from the movie Corpse Bride, called Victor's Piano Solo, is really pretty. Go to musicnotes.com and see the staff's picks, the most popular sheet music, etc. They have a lot of good sheet music there. =)

this might seem weird, but i have a question about where to put eyeliner. is it better to put your eyeliner on the inside rim of your eye (like that little line of skin right before your eyeball?), or just before your eyelashes?

thanks!

I was wondering the exact same thing before, and the last time I had an eye appointment I asked my eye doctor if putting it on the rim of your eye is okay. She said it was okay, as long as you don't put the eyeliner too close to your tear duct thing (the really small hole near the inner corner of your eye.) You just need to be careful. It's safer to put it just before your eyelashes, but to do that, you need to do it right so it doesn't turn out messy. i personally have been putting eyeliner on the rim of my eye for like 4 years now and haven't got an eye infection so that's how i'm going to keep doing it. But, if you have sensitive eyes, try putting it just before your eyelashes (to do this, I recommend a liquid eyeliner.) It's a little harder, but all you need to do is practice it. So yeah, it's easier and, in my opinion, looks better to put it on the rim of your eye, but safer to put it just before your eyelashes. =)

what is a dot book? because i need one for my sport.

Well, if you're in marching band or colorguard you usually have a dotbook. If you've ever been to a marching band competition or seen a marching band perform, every individual person has their own different spots on the field, or their "dots" on the field. Of course, the people in the marching band don't randomly go to these different spots, it's an arranged formation. To know where your "dot" is, you are given coordinates on the football field. For example, if your coordinates say "Two steps inside 35, 3 steps in front of back hash on side B," you go to the 35 on the right side of the football field(right side if you're facing the field, left side if you're on the field) and go to the back hash on the 35 yard line. Then, take 3 steps from the back hash down the 35 and after you've done that, take two steps inside towards the right of the 35 yard line. There are also different "sets" and every different "set" you have a coordinate like that. For my marching band show there are more than 60 sets in each show. A dot book is where you write these coordinates, what set you're in, and any other information you need, like how many counts the set is. A dot book is usually a small notepad about the size of an index card with maybe 75 pages or more. It may seem hard to understand at first, but it gets easier. Just ask someone for help. I remember the first time I had a dotbook I didn't understand anything but I figured it out really quickly. Just remeber to always bring a pencil with you when you're writing in a dotbook. Good luck. =)

Hey, I've just recently begun learning guitar and I know a little bits and pieces of songs, but I'm not good enough to start doing chords yet. Does anybody know any songs that are easy to play or anything? [ It's for accoustic guitar, by the way ]. Help?

Try some of these songs:

"Time of Your Life" by Greenday
"Adam's Song" by Blink 182
"New American Classic" by Taking Back Sunday
"Hey There Delilah" by Plain White T's
"Californication" by The Red Hot Chili Peppers
'Demolition Lovers" by My Chemical Romance
"Tiger Lily" by Matchbook Romance
"Brain Stew" by Green Day (It's an electric guitar in the actual song but it's really east to play on acoustic guitar)
"On My Own" by The Used
"Drive" by Incubus

ok so im in the colorguard at my highschool for the marching band. and my friend sally is in the marching band. well sally made a friend named..uhmm...jake.there really close. well i saw his pic on myspace.. and i fell in love. i relly like him. and i have liked him for over a month. he went to summer camp and just came back. so i couldnt talk to him during camp. well, now since hes back he doesnt think that i like him anymore (my friend told him that i liked him and hes coo land wants to get to know me) well hes like ooh she doesnt talk to me i doubt she stil llikes me. but i do. i even tell him but like well my friend does for me cuz for som reason i cant. its really annoying to me and him. its just that when i talk to him i freak out. like if he ims me and says hi im like omfg what do i say? and hes like oh your not talkative are you? its like i jsut freeze and forget how to type or something. he knows im nervous to talk to him but it still pisses him off. i was on 3 way with him and "sally" and i still couldnt talk. im meeting him tomorrow at band camp. so basically, HOW CAN I TALK TO HIM!?!?! and what about??

That's funny because I'm in colorguard too and I have band camp tomorrow also haha. Anyways, when you see him tomorrow, just smile and say hi to him. I know it's hard to talk to him because you're nervous but just be nice and friendly to him. Obviously he wants to get to know you better, so next time you see him, just say something like "Hi Jake! I haven't seen you in awhile? How are you?" Just talk to him about band, what he thinks of the band uniforms, if he's excited for school coming up, etc. And if you're too nervous to talk to him yourself, go with Sally to talk to him. But don't let Sally do all the talking; talk to him, too. And don't forget to smile a lot. If he thinks you're afraid to talk to him, he might not know what to do and might think you don't like him. So just be yourself, be outgoing, and smile. There's nothing to be afraid of. Oh yeah, and have fun at bandcamp. =)

what are some good questions to get to know someone better? because im talking to the kid i like right now and we kinda dont have anything to talk about...
we already talked about favorite food/movie/color and that stuff. anything helps thanks.

Comment on something he's wearing, for example, if he's wearing the shirt of a band you like, talk about that band your favorite songs by that band, etc. Talk about your favorite stores. Or, just bring up random stuff... something along the lines of "did you see that new movie yet?" or "So what did you do over the summer?" Just keep the conversationg going and when he asks you a question, don't just say "yes" or "no"; expand on the question. :)

i notised that you requested this providence, and i just saw them in concert opening for paramore and i was wondering if their cd was good, and if it was worth buying?

Well, I don't own any of their CDs, but I downloaded most of their songs from their CD "Our World's Divorce." So I don't know how good their other CD is, "The Sunday's Best", but I say if you're gonna buy one of their CD's, buy "Our World's Divorce." I really like the songs I've heard from it; and I think it's worth buying. Oh yeah, and btw, their new self-titled album is coming out on Sept. 12. It all kinda depends on how much you liked them when you saw them in concert, but I think it's worth buying one of their CDs. =)

okay so here is the thing.. the only jeans i wear are AE Stretch Skinny Flare Jean. becuase of their soft material im able to bounce and move around and i love it.. im spanish.. so i have a ver curvy body and a big butt and only super low rise fits me nice. idk what other jeans would be similar to that one i want the fabric strech and soft and dark. =[ bu6t i dont seem to find it. any ideas?

Try PacSun for jeans. They have a bunch of different styles. They have Tilt jeans, which come in a lot of different colors, styles, sizes, etc., and the material on Tilt jeans is very stretchy and soft. I also recommend Unionbay jeans, because the fabric is really comfortable and really easy to move around in. I had to do a dance where I had to wear jeans and I wore Unionbay jeans because they were very easy to move in. You can find Unionbay jeans at Kohls. Also, Charlotte Russe, Forever 21, and Aeropostale have some jeans on sale right now, as well as Pacsun and Kohls. Also try going to the store TJmaxx, because if the style of jeans you like were discontinued, you should look there. They have a lot of stuff from American agle that is last season, so you might find some jeans you like there (and they're really cheap, too!) When you're shopping for jeans, look for the Stretch jeans because they are the most comfortable. Try these websites:
www.pacsun.com
www.ae.com
www.forever21.com
www.urbanoutfitters.com
www.TJMaxx.com

~trisha~

That happens to me sometimes, too .. it might not be a problem with your speakers. Go to Start on your computer, then to Control Panel. When you're at the Comtrol Panel, go to Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices. Go to Adjust System Volume and see if it's on mute. My computer randomly goes on mute sometimes haha .. but if it's not on mute, try going to your speaker settings on the control panel. =)

Ok so when I dont blow dry or straighten my hair.
[let it air dry]
It dries sorta wavy,
but is there anything I can spray on it
or something to make the waves more defined, or even curls?
and shiny, so it doesnt loook all dull?

thanks.

After you wash your hair, you could scrunch it to make it look more wavy/curly by using gel or mousse. I recommend you use L'Oreal Studioline Lasting Curls. or, try putting your hair into 2 braids when it's still wet, or you could do it when it's dry, too. Leave the braids in for awhile and take them out, and your hair will be wavy. After your hair is wavy or curly enough, spray Aquage Beyond Shine Spray in your hair. It works reallyyy well and you can buy it at hair salons. Ask your hair dresser what he or she recommends as well. =)

i really like that song from schindler's list. i think its the theme song and like um.. itzak perlman plays it. does anyone know where to get the sheet music like.. for free? thx alott!

i know a couple of websites that say they're free, but usually they don't end up working. Your best bet is to go to musicnotes.com and type in the artist or name of the movie. You can print out the first page of the music for free, so you can see if you like it. You can also try:

www.8notes.com

I like this guy. He is super sweet and everything! He treats me like a princess and says i look good and beautiful. But all my friends think he is ugly. He seems like he could protect me if for something would happen. Its only the second day of school but i really like him. but i also dont know if he likes me back. if soo how should i ask him out? please help. i love you.

secret person.

Well, if this guy says you are beautiful and such, he probably likes you. And don't worry about what your friends think; he sounds like a nice guy and if you really like him, go for it! It's your decision, not theirs. Next time you talk to this guy, casually ask him who he likes. If he asks you who you like, tell him you like him. So yeah, if you know he likes you and therefore, you wanna ask him out, ask him when you two are alone. Say something like "I really like you alot. Will you go out with me?" Don't ask him when your or his friends are around, either. If he says no, don't worry about it. There are plenty of other guys out there. You could also just become better friends with him and get to know him more and he might just change his mind, but don't be too pushy, though. Good luck!

Me and a few friends are planning to hangout tonight, but we cant come up with any ideas! We arent looking to spend a whole lot of money because we are all budgeting to save money up for school. The only idea I have so far is to rent a movie and have a girls night in, but that may tend to get boring. Any creative ideas?

Hm, well there are a lot of things you could do! You couldddd:
- Go to a rollerskating or iceskating rink
- Go to an amusment park
- Go to a park and be like little kids and play on the playscape haha
- Get your nails done
- Go to a lasertag place (idk if you have one near you, though)
- Do manicures/pedicures yourself
- Go to the mall and get your makeup done at a makeup counter (it's usually free; depending on where you go)
- If one of you has a video camera, use it! You can film yourselves dancing to music, like a music video-type thing, or something like that. Me and my friends pretend we're in a corny soap opera and make up commericals and stuff and film it .. it's really fun haha
- Go mini-golfing or bumper-boating
- Roast marshmallows

That's all I can think of .. have fun!
