Hey there. Ask away whatever you want answered and I'll do my best. Please avoid unconventional capitalization and spelling - it makes the questions harder to read and so I'm less likely to answer.

is it bad or wrong that i still sleep with a stuffed animal? Its a white tiger named Snowball. even though i share a bed with my boyfriend, if i dont have snowball i have a hard time falling asleep. is there something wrong with me? btw im 19/f if that makes any difference (link)
Don't worry about it. I'm almost 19 and I do the same thing. Hopefully it won't get in the way of your relationship with your boyfriend, but there's certainly nothing wrong with sleeping with a stuffed animal no matter how old you are.

I'm taking Ballet classes this summer, anyone who takes ballet can then give me some REAL AND GOOD tips and websites.

Help me (tips and websites) to learn how to do a proper pirouette and fouette and how to get really at good spotting turns without getting dizzy. I use to do Ballet from like 6-9 but I stopped because I couldn't afford it anymore and I lost all my ability.

(link)
Well for starters, you probably haven't lost as much ability as you think. It'll come back once you start working again.

Unfortunately, since there are two kinds of fouettes, (and I can hardly do the ones I know) I can't help you much there. The best thing you can do is apply all pirouette technique to the fouette. To get started back with the fouettes, I'd find a barre that you can use and do singles. Plie on one foot, extend the other one front and snap it around to second and into passé and do a single turn. Work both sides doing the same thing. Don't forget to spot!

As for the pirouettes...your best option is to really work your technique and positioning before you try any turning. Make sure your foot is up to passé position, not sickled and that your knee is turned out fully. Do all these checks in front of a mirror (obviously) and probably keep one hand on a wall or barre to help with balance. As for arms, make sure that you're not shrugging your shoulders, keep your neck long but not super stretched. Your hands should be in a fairly straight line from your belly button and should be slightly rounded into a first position. Be sure that you're holding your stomach muscles tight and keeping your supporting leg (the straight one) tight as well. It should almost be hyper-extended, but not quite and you should pull all the muscles in your thighs tight. The tighter the muscles are, the better balance you'll have.
If you need to have a hand on a wall, then obviously only put one arm in first position.

Okay, so I got my braces off the other day so obviously now I have retainers. What I want to know is, for people who've had them, did you ACTUALLY wear them 24/7? They hurt a little& are EXTREMELY annoying. I know I'll wear them to bed, & probably at home, but I don't want to wear them all the time at school/with friends.

So basically, I'm asking, did you wear them all the time or about 2/3 of the time & still were okay?
My brother told me he wore them basically at night & when he was at home & I know he's fine.
[Please don't preach to me about how I should do as my orthodontist says or whatever, she's kind of a psycho so I can't really trust her, plus they all say to wear them all the time but I know people don't...] (link)
Heh, I wore mine all the time for the first week or so, and then I only wore them at night. The only reason they want you to wear them so much right now is that your teeth are prone to shifting back and undoing all the work the braces did. That'll lessen in time and then even if you miss a night or two, you'll be fine. Just don't decide not to wear them just yet because if you do and then you put them back in, they'll have to readjust your teeth and that is fairly painful, even for just a short time.
But really, you'll be fine if you only wear them at night or part of the time at home.

hey this is about the great gatsby question.. my topic is a character study of daisy.. in my paper i want to put in how fitzgerald uses the color white when describing her. it gives an innocent feeling when in reality it's the total opposite. also how she is greedy and that's why she's with tom, for the benefits of being wealthy. and i want to write another thing on her and gatsby. i dont know how to make a general thesis statement that is real good. so if you could help i'd appreciate it thanks! (link)
Hm...one other thing to think about - not that you don't have enough! - is that people sometimes feel that Gatsby is America.
Maybe something about how Daisy is described as white because she seems to innocent and pure - like America - but it's just a mask to hide her real self.
or how Daisy is seeking a better life through tom, just as people come to america seeking a better life but there's nothing that says anyone has to gain it honestly. Even the most innocent of people, like Daisy, can want and seek a better life through not-so-innocent means.

the flower daisies are most commonly white as well. not sure it's a helpful note, but knowing classic writers, there is probably some play on that.

hopefully some of that helped. apologies for not getting to the question sooner.

I just got a Mac [apple] book. It's a laptop. I'm just wondering how to get a homepage on it, and also why does the aim CONSTANTLY sign off? How can I make my aim keep me connected? (link)
The homepage question is pretty easy to explain. In whatever webbrowser you're using, go to where it says "safari/firefox/internet explorer" and click on that. Then in the drop-down menu, click on the "preferences" tab. Under the icon labeled "main" you can choose if you want a blank homepage or you can give it the address of the one you want.

As of the AIM problem...that's harder. My guess is that it can sometimes get around the firewall on the network you're using, but then gets hit. So, again, go to preferences and click in the firewall icon. You should be able to change the port number and that will allow you to get around the firewall. If you don't know which port to use (there are millions to choose from), as someone who's on the same network which port works for them.

I hope that wasn't too techy-sounding...but I hope it helped, at least with the homepage part!

I'm 14/f, and want to tone my thighs/abs for the summer. Since I don't exercise that much, I thought maybe I could start walking.

Does walking burn a lot of calories? I'm not lazy, but I don't want to waste all that time walking if it wont work, when I could be doing something else instead. How long should I walk for each day to make a difference? Thanks ;D (link)
http://www.caloriesperhour.com/index_burn.html
Use the activity calc for however fast you're walking.

Now, answering without the website. yeah, it burns calories. Not nearly as many as we'd like though...your best option would really be to use the treadmill and walk at a power-walking pace on a slight incline. Start with maybe 10 min of just the power-walking for a week or so, Then do 20 min power and see if you can add an incline. (yeah, muscles will hurt...but it's all good). If you don't have a treadmill/access to one, plan a route around your neighborhood area and make sure it has a couple hills, even small ones.

hey i'm doing a final paper about the great gatsby. does anyone know of a good thesis sentence about daisy? i have to do a character study of only daisy and i can't think of a good hook. thanks
(link)
Well, which do you want? You thesis and hook should be different...
Also, it'll be easier to help you if you give us your question that you're working with/what you're trying to prove.
I'd be happy to help, as I've read and written a paper on the book, but a little more explanation would be great. If you want to send a message to my inbox with your question for the paper I'll see if I can help.

14/f 5'2 126 lbs, size 5

I want to get down to a size 3 in 4 weeks. I need help on dieting and excercize. So tell me what to do. Dont tell me to skip junk food and blah blah. Tell me exactly what I need to do. I need a plan that will let me have chocolate everyday. I eat dinner with my parents so fixing my dinner isnt possible. I am also a vegetarian. My problem area is my thighs so help please (link)
It's not about cutting back on the "junk" food, it's about cutting back on ALL foods. It's okay, even good, to let yourself be just a little hungry after you eat. Don't eat 'til you're stuffed, eat until you're satisfied. Also, don't starve yourself between meals, a really healthy thing to do is to eat 5 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones with junky snacks between. Make it a point to take the long way to a class if you have time. As for the chocolate, take a LITTLE bit each day.
So, the thighs. I get the sense that you don't want to deal with much physical activity, so a nice way to at least tone the thighs is to grab a decent sized book and tuck it between your knees and hold it there until you finish meals. It'll work on your thighs. Really, working out is the best way, but the book holding is a nice start.

can you get into a good college if you have only one C or B- in math? and the rest of the grades are A's? (link)
Oh yea. No worries.

why should'nt you exerscise before you go to sleep? (link)
Generally the problem is that exercise gets your adrenaline flowing and it makes it really hard to relax and get to sleep. Even if your muscles are tired from the working, it's your mind that's still awake and if you've ever had a million thoughts buzzing in your head when you're trying to sleep, you know how hard it is. That's the simple break-down of your question.

I recently went on Zoloft to treat my OCD. I opted for the generic brand when the Pharmacist asked me because it was cheaper and I'm paying for it myself. I took half a pill today as directed. But now I read on the prescription that it says "No brand substitutes allowed" Could something potentially happen to me because it's a generic brand? Or is it ok? I'm a bit paranoid now after reading that..

Thanks. (link)
Don't worry about it. I've been on the stuff for 2 years and swapped to the generic stuff a bit ago and it's not a big deal. Nothing happens.
I think what it's really telling you is that you shouldn't take other meds like zoloft instead of the daily zoloft and expect them to have the same effect.

ok so i need a little help getting myslef on the right path. im only a freshman in highschool. but its right now where you decide your future. and i really dont have any idea what i want to do with my life.. there are many things i am interested in. but im not sure what would really be the best for me. i really want to spend the rest of my life doing something i reallly love. and not something thats just ok.

ok some of the things i think about are fashion design, be a part of some kind of modeling agency.
be a hair stylist. make up artist, just do that kind of stuff. i am reallly creative and im willing to try new things. i also have another side of me i always wanted to be a psychologist.
and then there is the photographer, and graphic designer.
see i go through like these phases first i wanted to be a fashion designer for the longest time. then like graphic designer then psychologist and now its back in the fashion direction. and im really looking for a path that includes all these things. i want to be able to travel and meet new people and just have a good job. any ideas on what career path i should take?
im also a really good writer, but i dont really like it.

thank you (link)
Hm...who gave you the idea that freshman year is the deciding point? Whomever said that is a little off-base. There are people I know who are in college who still don't know what they're going to do with their life.
I'm of the opinion that you don't have to decide anything until at least senior year. There are SO many things to experience in high school and as extracurricular activities that it's not even worth it to try to decide as early as freshman year. You'll most likely get frustrated because new things keep coming up.
My advice would be to keep at all the things you love right now and keep trying new things during your high school years.
And, there's nothing that says that when the time really does come to choose, you can always double major and do something with psychology and fashion or any other combination. Actually, psychology and fashion might be an interesting combo considering a lot of fashion designing and modeling is based in psychology. Or there's the negative, eating disorders and things like that that stem from the fashion world.
Think about everything, but I wouldn't make a choice right now. You've got a long time to think about it.

im 16 female turning 17 in 3 months and im 5'6 1/2 and i was not suppose to get up to being that tall my doctor told me that i was most likely going to stop growing when i reach 5'4 but i havent grown since last year and iv been 5'6 1/2 since last year and people keep telling me that im going to grow even taller than i am now because im not fully grown yet but i dont really believe them and i dont want that i dont want to be all extra tall so is being 5'6 1/2 at the age of 17 tall?? (link)
Don't worry about it! I'm 18 and I'm 5'5.5", and my mother is only 5'6". I've got friends who were 5'10" when they were in 7th grade. 5'6" is pretty normal.

I want to improve my writing but I don't know what to write about.

Is there any website that has questions for writing in journals?
Like.. creative writing prompts? (link)
http://www.writingfix.com/dailypromptgenerator.htm

Take your pick from any number of types of prompts - poetry, short story, you name it.
If you really want to keep improving steadily, write something - from whatever inspiration you have - and have someone read it and give you feedback about the flow, the characters/their depth, description etc. Maybe you've got a friend who loves writing that could read what you write?

Also, if you have the chance, sign up for writing classes over the summer! The Loft Writing Center has some awesome classes for writers of all genres, ages, abilities.

i've been on pointe for about 3 months now- and I have these REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY excruciatingly bad blisters on my toes. And whenever I roll from 3/4 to full pointe they start bleeding more. I always put band-aids and neosporin (sp?) on them, but it doesn't help.

How can I get them to not hurt when i do pointe? (link)
I've been on pointe for 7 years and I totally know what you're going through - my feet killed me when I first started.
Unfortunately the thing that's really going to help you is time. The blisters will become callouses and then it won't be painful.
There's this liquid called New Skin that seems to work really well because it covers the blisters with basically a new layer of skin and if you put that on before you work it's more effective - it stings like crazy on open wounds. Also bathing your feet in epsome salts is a good way to soothe them after being beaten up during class.
Something I found works nicely is wearing open toed shoes as often as possible outside of dance class so your toes aren't stuffed into socks and tight-fitting shoes. Air is a wonderful thing to give sore and open blisters.
One of my dance friends gave me a cream for sore feet that also is pretty effective. It doesn't work right before class, but afterwards it feels really good. It's Aveda Foot Relief if you want to look into it.
I don't know what kind of toe pads you're using (I assume you're using them - if not that might be a part of the problem) but make sure that your pads aren't lose inside the shoes. Sometimes the pads will be lose and they can rub on your feet and cause, then reopen the blisters. I've found that wrapping my toes with athletic tape works as an option during class and then soaking my feet afterwards and after the soak I usually put the Foot Relief cream on.
Hopefully one of the methods will help you out!
Keep dancing.

What kind of extracurriculars and how much are colleges looking for? (link)
They're really looking to see how committed you've been in high school and even before.
It kind of depends on the type of school you're look at, but most schools like to see a well-rounded extracurricular resumé. Some school involvement (sports, student government etc), community service (both through your place of worship - if you have one - and outside of that), plus anything else you might be in (gymnastics, dance, ice skating, summer recreation teams).
Depending on the school, you may be able to apply for scholarships for community service and other extracurricular activities. :)

I need newspaper cuttings related to the environment for an environmental studies project.I think newspapers from december,2004 would be important because that is when the Tsunami happened.Should I go to the newspaper's office to look for them?If they do not have them, where else can I get them from? (link)
Check with science teachers for starters - they save all kinds of stuff relating to the environment.
Also places like your city's historical society are good starters if you look through the newspaper archieves.
The internet is a wonderful resource so that you don't have to go running all over town. You can just go to newspaper sites like Star Tribune or whatever paper you can access and search the archieves there as well.

I want to get DDR for PlayStation2 but my parents think it's stupid. I've got enough money to get all the equipement and everything but they won't let me. Is there any way I can convince them it's more than just a 'stupid arcade game'? Thanks. (link)
DDR isn't a "stupid arcade game" at all. Tell your parents that it does help you get and stay in good physical shape. You're not being exposed to crime scenes of graphic characters being killed or killing each other etc like you would be in other video games.

First off, I'm a 15-year-old girl
I'm tired of falling on love with guys who are too old for me (the oldest being 21 and a friend of mine).
How do I avoid this happening?
Thank you. (link)
Here's my guess: you probably act older than your real age. You probably do it without realizing it, but that makes people older think you're older and therefore they treat you as their peers in terms of age. Unfortunately, this can lead to you (or anyone in your position) feeling as though there may be an attraction between you and whomever you're speaking to - even when there isn't one (or at least not a mutual one).
I totally get the liking older guys thing because I'm usually the same way. Sadly, older guys usually have the same maturity level as younger girls and the guys who are 14-16 act like a bunch of 3rd graders (and that's on a good day!)
I think that the best thing you can do is to get involved in activities in and out of your school with people closer to your age so you can broaden your activies repertoire and get to know more people your own age. Sure, they'll be less mature, but...maybe you can make them step up to your level of maturity instead of you having to step down to be on the level that they are.
Maybe a re-evalutation of WHY you like these guys is in order. Is it looks? maturity? are they usually more kind? Are those kinds of things possible to find in people your age?
Maybe you have standards that are too high and need to be lowered. I know, it doesn't sound like a good plan, but it might work. If you don't want to lower the standards, then perhaps a love-life is the wrong thing to focus on right now. No one needs a guy or girl to be a significant other in 8th, 9th or even 10th grade (well, you never really NEED anyone) so maybe this is the wrong time in your life to be worrying about that.
Just shrug off crushes, especially if you know they can't work out. "yeah, I like him. problem? it's not like I'm going to be dating him" Crushes are normal. I don't think there's a way to stop you from liking older guys, but there is a way to avoid falling into a typical teenage girl trap (which you may or may not be in). Keep your mind and options open, don't get set on one guy.
Good luck!
