Too young to date mature guys

Question Posted Saturday January 13 2007, 7:44 pm

First off, I'm a 15-year-old girl
I'm tired of falling on love with guys who are too old for me (the oldest being 21 and a friend of mine).
How do I avoid this happening?
Thank you.

well honestly its not a terrible thing to date older guys because its hard to find maturity in teenage boys i guess it just runs in the hormones...i know this because i am one and i admit to this problem but if you think dating older guys is a problem there has to be a decent guy that has the maturity and attractiveness your looking for near your age group if not try to find people as close to your age as possible but in the end its your decision who you want to date and if older guys is your thing then go for it

hey, okay well first im just going to start off with age doesnt matter. if you love each other then thats all that counts. so i dont know if someones telling you that its wrong to date older guys or what, but if its just your own personal decsision then i respect that. anyways if you want to get more social wiht guys of your age then there are a few different options. join clubs, meet your friends friends, go to partys, and go to sports related games for your school.

Here's my guess: you probably act older than your real age. You probably do it without realizing it, but that makes people older think you're older and therefore they treat you as their peers in terms of age. Unfortunately, this can lead to you (or anyone in your position) feeling as though there may be an attraction between you and whomever you're speaking to - even when there isn't one (or at least not a mutual one).
I totally get the liking older guys thing because I'm usually the same way. Sadly, older guys usually have the same maturity level as younger girls and the guys who are 14-16 act like a bunch of 3rd graders (and that's on a good day!)
I think that the best thing you can do is to get involved in activities in and out of your school with people closer to your age so you can broaden your activies repertoire and get to know more people your own age. Sure, they'll be less mature, but...maybe you can make them step up to your level of maturity instead of you having to step down to be on the level that they are.
Maybe a re-evalutation of WHY you like these guys is in order. Is it looks? maturity? are they usually more kind? Are those kinds of things possible to find in people your age?
Maybe you have standards that are too high and need to be lowered. I know, it doesn't sound like a good plan, but it might work. If you don't want to lower the standards, then perhaps a love-life is the wrong thing to focus on right now. No one needs a guy or girl to be a significant other in 8th, 9th or even 10th grade (well, you never really NEED anyone) so maybe this is the wrong time in your life to be worrying about that.
Just shrug off crushes, especially if you know they can't work out. "yeah, I like him. problem? it's not like I'm going to be dating him" Crushes are normal. I don't think there's a way to stop you from liking older guys, but there is a way to avoid falling into a typical teenage girl trap (which you may or may not be in). Keep your mind and options open, don't get set on one guy.
Good luck!

edit even so you like him in a romantic context

first of all its illegal and if someone finds out he could get in serious trouble second of he could use you and take advantage of it.im not doubting your maturity but why would a guy whos 21 want someone around 15. why is he hanging around minors that young its not like your on the verge of turning 18,think about it. if you want someone older 17 is the limit until your 18 just be careful. just start talking to people who are in your age group.

hey,

I am a 15 year old girl who is dating an 18year old guy, we have been together for 10 months now and are gonig along really well.. at first my family didn't accept us but now they do...

No-one can help falling in love, it happens naturally. You may well be more mature then other people your age, i know that i am.

Don't let anyone tell you your falling for the wrong guy, the only way you are gonig to find out is by experience...

If you know they are too old i believe it wont be too hard for you to start liking guys your age... hang around them etc...

Hoping you all the best
Elle

Set a limit for yourself! Talk to people that're around your age and preferably in high school! I promise there's a buncha cuties that you probably don't see potential in right now, but the time will come!
