Walking? I'm 14/f, and want to tone my thighs/abs for the summer. Since I don't exercise that much, I thought maybe I could start walking.
Does walking burn a lot of calories? I'm not lazy, but I don't want to waste all that time walking if it wont work, when I could be doing something else instead. How long should I walk for each day to make a difference? Thanks ;D

k walking is great, but just a slow paced walk wont do much at all, you should like walk quick, like as fast as you can without like jogging so like a speed walk, that will work, not just like a stroll in the park walk. ]
I usually can't stick with a work out program unless i do it with a friend. Also, just go on a long slow walk in the evening. I dont know about you, but i spend my entire night on the computer, so being out of the house burns calories no matter how slow i walk. ]
100 calories per mile. walking is a great way to lose weight and tone up ]

Use the activity calc for however fast you're walking.
Now, answering without the website. yeah, it burns calories. Not nearly as many as we'd like though...your best option would really be to use the treadmill and walk at a power-walking pace on a slight incline. Start with maybe 10 min of just the power-walking for a week or so, Then do 20 min power and see if you can add an incline. (yeah, muscles will hurt...but it's all good). If you don't have a treadmill/access to one, plan a route around your neighborhood area and make sure it has a couple hills, even small ones. ]
