My first rule: Once you break up, DO NOT get back together. People break up for reasons. Move on.

Q: Hello,
Last week, my boyfriend of almost 3 months suddenly just broke it off because he believes "I don't respect him", (not true). He refuses to tell me any other reason, although the one above is unbelievable to me, and many other people. I found out over the weekend how he has been extremely touchy feely for the past few weeks, and basically runs around hitting on people about 5 feet away from me. I think he's doing this just to rub it in my face, but I really don't know what to do.

He's insecure. Don't feed it, just leave him to be insecure and ALONE. He wants to make you feel bad to make himself feel better. You shouldn't respect him.

Q: I didn't know what category to put this under. I'm so confused about what I am feeling right now. Everything in my life is pretty good. I have 3 jobs but still a lot of free time on my hands due to the way they are scheduled. I spend a lot of time with a few of my closest friends. I have a boyfriend who adores me. I'm going to the college of my dreams (Art Institute of Philadelphia) starting October of '04. My family finally isn't in complete shambles anymore. I have a car. I'm always laughing. However, when I come home at the end of the day and I'm sitting here by myself, I always end up crying and feeling completely miserable. I have all of these wonderful things around me yet I can't seem to actually feel happy. It's not that I don't want to be... I'm just scared. I'm scared that everything may just fall apart one day, because my life didn't used to be so wonderful. I can't lose all that I've gained, and it terrifies me. Maybe this is why I'm so upset when I'm alone and thinking all the time... but how do I get these pessimistic thoughts to leave?

Honey I've had the same thoughts, and this might not work for everyone, but what works for me is to think about how much better my life is now than it was a month ago, or a year ago, or anything. I have a lot, too. A successful website, an awesome job, fantastic apartment furniture... am I afraid of losing it? Sure I am. Everyone who has anything is afraid of losing it. A life that's not worth holding onto isn't a life at all.
But the fact remains that although our lives can have ups and downs, most people's are almost always on the up. You gain as you grow. You see new things and visit new places. We sometimes feel like we'd like to stay in the same place. In college I was deathly afraid of graduating and living on my own. But you know what? I wouldn't go back to college if I was paid too... what I have now is so much better.
You're not supposed to be paralyzed with fear, but you are supposed to be afraid. All thinking people are... it's part of what motivates us to keep looking ahead for the good things in life. There's not much I can say to make it better except that I've been there and totally understand, and just from how you've written your thoughts I can tell you're going to have a great life, too. Go forth and conquer, you'll make it.

Q: People think i am green, and then they mock me in my face. I know i am green, but being green is not a bad thing, right? i do not understand why they should point out my now-embarrasing greenery to everyone else- i never point out their UGLY PINKNESS... all of my friends are slightly green, but they never get hassled either. The pink ones make my greenery seem tinged with BROWN. i feel this is wrong. i am also tinged with blue, but that is because of the large amount of books i read. SO, how should i handle this stressing situation? I don't want to spill bright red because of this... MUST GO TO PADDED CELL NOW!!!!!!!

They go after food when they smell blood, so yes, I'd say you're more likely to be eaten by a shark when on your period. Personally, I always avoid swimming in shark-infested waters, so it's not something I've thought much of, but if the situation demands it I'd suggest wearing a tampon and washing off well before you get into the water.

Q: Ive read about autistic people and how they cant really leed a social life. I was just wondering if it was possible to be autistic but not have as bad as simptoms as really autistic people.
Is that possible or am i just worrying about nothing?

Autism is more than a social disorder, and generally it's very obvious. If you have the capability to be concerned about your social life enough to write into a website about it, you are not autistic.
You could be weird though.

Q: Look I have this boyfriend name buddah and he's 15,he smokes and drinks and wont stop until he gets probation and I don't know what to do because there this boy at my school name maurice and I really like him and he wants to go with me so should I break up with Buddah and go with maurice or stay with buddah and leave maurice alone?

I don't think you should go out with either one, but if you can't handle that at least break up with the one who smokes and drinks.
Seriously I don't know why people ask me these stupid questions. "This guy is all wrong for me... should I keep dating him?" Makes me lose faith in humanity.

Q: Recently my parents have decided that they're going to split up - this came as no surprise. They hate each other. Mother decided she wants to get out of the State, and move down south to Florida.
I have the choice of going with her or staying with my dad, here. I told my boyfriend that we might be moving (it's not a sure thing yet.) and he freaked. The thing is, I really want to move and start over somewhere else, but I don't want to leave him. He keeps suggesting long-distance relationship, but i've had those and I really don't like them.
I don't know how to decide what to do. I don't want to leave him. I think I really love him. But I want to start over so bad. Any advice?

Move. Start over. Tell him you'll e-mail and miss him but I agree, LD relationships not only don't work, they aren't worth the hassle if you're under the age of, say, 34. He'll just have to understand.

Awe, don't hate teachers! Teachers are cool, they're just misunderstood. They love their subject and if you act like you have the potential to love their subject, chances are they'll love you to. That's my advice on teachers.

Find something he likes that's just as stupid. If he doesn't like anything, accuse him of being passionless and boring. Trust me, we all have our quirky stuff we like, tennis is cool enough to stick up for it.

Q: I am a 29 year old married woman with three kids. I just found out that I am pregnant and my husband and I have agreed that I would have an abortion because we couldn't afford to have another child. We are already struggling to raise our three kids. I am so confused and depressed right now. I am scheduled to have my abortion next week though. If I continue with this pregnancy that means I would have to stop working and money is really tight right now. We are actually living pay check to pay check right now. The other side of me wanted to continue having this child. And it really hurts me so that I have to do this. My family and his family would be so dissappointed if they learned I'm preganant and I doubt that they would be willing to help. If you were in my shoes, would you do the same thing? Am I wrong in doing this?
If I were in your shoes I'd probably be just as torn about the decision, but I'd try everything possible to not have an abortion. I had a friend who had one once and felt awful for her, she decided later she felt bad about it, and you can never go back, you know?
Adoption is almost as difficult but I think it's easier to deal with in the long run. That's what I'd really recommend, if you think you can do it.
Whatever you do, know that it'll turn out okay. Humans have a much higher capacity to survive hardships than we think we do, and I know it feels right now like there's no way out but you will make it. Just keep telling yourself that.

Q: Four and a half years ago I was introduced to my (now) best friend, we didn't really talk too much at the begining nor did I even think of him romantically. Approximately Two years later I developed a heavy infatuation with him which developed (I feel) into love. One year after than began, I suggested we be more than friends and he declined saying we should "stick to group activities." Since then I have repressed my feelings for him. Now, one and a half years, two external crushes and a failed relationship after the incident, we are flirting again, and my feelings have returned with a vengence. I've always believed that if a man doesn't like you right away he never will. Now I'm confused. Is it possible that he may now be interested in dating me? Or is the male psyche controlled by complete physical attraction?
You're overthinking. Take it slow and relax... you should learn to be friends with people and be happy with that before diving into more. If you think he'd be interested in dating you can tell him how you feel but I'd value the friendship if I were you, friendships are usually more valuable in the long run anyway.

Q: My 10 year old daughter is invited to a birthday party sleepover this weekend. Is ten year old too young for sleepovers or is it okay for this age to go on sleepovers?

Q: Hello I want to know how you make out. Like what do you do? I know you french kiss by using your tounge but how exactly do you use it? Can you please help me!
PS my friend wanted to know so I told him I knew where to ask and that I would ask for him that is why I am asking.

Kissing should always come naturally... if you think about it too much it doesn't work. Don't go sticking your tounge in someone's mouth because you think that's what people "do". That's what bad kissers do. Good kissers are subtle and the whole tounge thing doesn't even come into play until like the third kiss and even then not much.

Q: Okay, so I'm a big fan of being friends with guys. Guys rock. However, I also think men are pretty and that some of them are pretty ok. I've liked quite a few of them, but my attempts to date have never gone well - I'm undesirable because, well, I'm larger than most of them. Anyway, I'm eighteen now, a senior in high school, have never kissed, hugged, or held hands with a guy, and am currently confused as to whether I like girls or not. I'm afraid that it may be due to sheer desperation, because quite a few of my lesbian and bisexual friends have hinted that they might be interested. What can I do about all this?
If you don't know that you're attracted to other women, you probably aren't. Most of the bisexuals I've been friends with never had a doubt in their heads. But it's up to you, lots of people experiment.
Don't think you need to be with someone to be happy though, guys or girls. Being independent will give you much healthier relationships with everyone in the long one. Being an inexperienced 18 year old means nothing... there are billions of you, trust me. It's perfectly okay, probably even better.

Q: I have a very dear friend, who despite her age, 42, and mine, 13, was probably the closest and best friend I ever had. She worked at my dads laboratory and I would always come after school and tell her everything. she saw me go through the fases of a growing child, from a different point of view than a parent, and we had so many good times together.
Recently she got pregnant when she wasnt married. Since the guy didnt know and she had no contact with him, she decided to move back with her family back east. I miss her terribly, shes been gone about a week now but it seems like ages. My life is a wreck without her. And I know she misses me too but she hasnt talked to me recently. What should I do to relieve the pain? Its not the same anymore without her because her impact is vital in my life. Please help.

It's going to be tough to deal with, but this sort of thing happens. Friendships are hard to keep together. Those movies you see where the people have been best friends since the second grade? Not real. Life takes us places.
I'd write letters. Yes, I know there's e-mail these days, but letters are so much more theraputic. Don't worry, you can live without her, it's just tough for a while.

I've been in the advice column over five years now so I think I've pretty much heard it all... the love, the hate, the random insanity. I don't take it too seriously, so I'm not always giving the best advice, but my column is fun to read!
I am a 23 year old electrical engineer, a feminist, a Christian. I don't know everything but I can sure pretend to.
Disclaimer: Now that I'm on advicenators I'm getting even more questions every day. It's fast and easy for me to answer them, yes, so at least I'm answering something now, but if your question contains the words "there's this guy that I like..." chances are I won't get around to it. I'm only answering interesting questions that I haven't answered before. Register at the site and ask everyone for advice if you must have an answer, because if people read my column and boring love advice was all they found, they'd never come back.
