They go after food when they smell blood, so yes, I'd say you're more likely to be eaten by a shark when on your period. Personally, I always avoid swimming in shark-infested waters, so it's not something I've thought much of, but if the situation demands it I'd suggest wearing a tampon and washing off well before you get into the water.
