I'm 14, going to be 18 by the next olympics. Im on the varsity team of my highschool, as a freshman (OH). But like.. I don't get the nomination process and all.
Do you just play really well and some scout will pick you out and it all happens or what? And also whats the shortest a Volleyball player has been in the Olympics? Cause now I'm nearly 5'5", though I probably will grow a couple more inches in the following years cause everyone else in my family is like just about 6'0"
. Luckily, I dont know how but I can jump really high, like me vs. my sister who's 5'9" i can jump just about as high as she can, while other kids my height, some can't even jump as high as the net or they're barely over.
Like I love volleyball, coming from New Jersey which is pretty new to the sport (may move to texas next year which would be good) but I've been doing clinics and camps since I was 11, played club in a year and already have gotten pretty good. So like do I have any chance for the future? and yeah please answer my other questions :)
Btw I'm from America. Oh yeah, also I have Cameroonian nationality (100%) but was born in England. I still have my British passport.. can I still participate in the American Olympics or I'd have to do it in England? Or if I change to being an American citizen could I? I'm confused on that too.
Once again thanks for reading this really long question(s)! (link)

Not trying to kill your dreams here, but to play college or professional volleyball, being tall is a MUST. Just because everyone in your family is over 6 ft, that doesn't necessarily mean you will be too. My friend's parents and brother are at least 5'10, but she's only 5'5 and hasn't grown since. Sadly, you can be amazing, jump equally as high as tall girls, have amazing stats, but if you aren't tall, then colleges really won't take a second look at you.
Anyways, being on a high school team isn't enough. You have to play on the BEST club teams in the state, and be one of the best players in the country. You get on the Olympic U.S. team by being the best in the COUNTRY and one of the best in the world.
Yes, you have to get scouted, but nobody will find you if they don't notice you. The way to get noticed is to be ridiculously amazing. When I say you have to play with the best teams, it's because that's where the best players are. You want to be around good players so you can be on their level.
My sister was an all-state volleyball player in high school, a freshman starter on varsity, and in the newspaper like every week. She played for the best teams in the state and would drive 1.5 hours twice a week just to go to practice. However, as amazing as she was, she's only 5'3, so she couldn't play in college. There are some short players out there, but it's very uncommon.
I believe you have to be a U.S. citizen in order to represent the U.S.
Anyways, good luck and know that you have to invest a lot of time, money, and sweat into this if you are serious, and most of all, you have to LOVE what you do with a passion. You can only be so good if you aren't passionate about it.

but i have danced for 7 years.

Cross country is a pretty intense sport. It's mostly about endurance. Most people are out of shape when season starts, but that's mainly what you will work on, so don't worry so much about that. Long distance is just as mental as it is physical, which is what makes it so intense. You have to have something to think about, like maybe a song, because it gets pretty boring.
Anyways, make sure that you are wearing the right kind of shoes that support your foot. You should go to a running or sports store where someone can help fit you for the right kind of shoe.
Also, expect to be sore the first week or two. It's important to stretch a lot, before and after, to decrease the soreness and injury. Try to ice afterwards, or sit in a hot tub that night.
If you tell your coach you are new to running, they will definitely give you a less intense approach. You will probably begin running shorter distances and then build up from there. I'm sure you won't be the only new runner there, so you will be in a group of other new runners on your level as well.
Good luck!

okay, im only 14 and a virgin.
i had my period recently and always went to the bathroom like every 45 minutes to check and clean up myself cause im a paranoid freak! lol.
so anyways, after that, i always feel like i gotta pee ! even after i go to the bathroom! I need advice asap!!!!!!
my period is over, i just got constant feeling that i gotta use the bathroom.
thanks :) (link)
|
Having to pee all the time, even after you just went is a common sign of a urinary tract infection, which basically means that there is a bacterial infection in your digestive tract. It's nothing life-threatening, but you absolutely have to go to the doctor to get it treated with antibiotics. You can get a UTI for a number of reasons. Here's a site that explains more:
http://www.kidney.niddk.nih.gov/kudiseases/pubs/utiadult/
***Edit:
When you have a UTI, it doesn't burn when you pee. If it does, then that's pretty much a guarantee of an STD, like chlamydia or gonorrhea.

So, I'm a huge fan of Sex and the City. Call me stupid or whatever but I have this weird feeling.
I sometimes find myself in the same positions as Carrie.
We're both in love with guys that aren't really in love with us.
Like we have casual sex with these guys. Everything that has happened with her and "Big" has happened to me and my "Big". It's very peculiar. For example, in the show he always leaves her for another woman, same happens to me. And he always chases back for her when the relationship is over with another woman. And when she was in another relationship with Aiden he comes back which leads her to cheating, this has happened to me before. Like in the movie, they ended up getting married. I sometimes picture me and him one day marrying. I really don't need the criticism but do you think this is a sign ? Or what ? I always find myself wondering this...
Thanks In Advanced. (link)
|
Sorry to burst your bubble, but I don't think it's a sign. Pretty much every woman throughout time has experienced this, which is what makes this such a popular show. The everyday woman can relate to Carrie.

Has anyone ever got a bad hair cut story??
How did you make yourself feel better?
Thanks (link)
|
I sure have. I think we've all been there. Well, what I did was curl or wave my hair most of the time, or else I wore it up in a ponytail or bun, because when my hair was straight, the awkwardness of the cut was more noticeable.
Anyways, you can always go back to where you got it cut, tell them you are unhappy, and request that they fix it. Or else, go to a different salon and ask them to fix it.
Don't worry, it'll grow back :)

How do you get soft, smooth wavy curls like her in this picture?
I've tried, but I just get weird curls.
Any help?
Thanks. (link)

This style is done by blowdrying with a round brush. I do my hair like this all the time.
The biggest determining factors in how your hairstyle will come out is first your haircut, then your hair type. She has many layers, but has thin hair. It can work if you have thick hair with a cut that is thinned out at the ends, but if you hair is one solid length, then the layers won't show up and it won't look like this.
All they do is put product into the hair (this can be mousse, or a blowdrying serum) and blowdry the entire head dry with a round brush. To get the ends to curl, you have to concentrate on the ends for a little bit, so be sure to use a heat protective spray while the hair is still wet, then spray with hairspray once the ends are dried and are still hot. Once finished, run a small amount of smoothing shine serum through the hair to make it shine.

if a guy likes you and never ever looks you in the eye but talks to you, is there any meaning behind this other than the fact that he is shy? (link)
|
Besides being shy, if a person doesn't look you in the eye, then he's lying to you. Hopefully in your case he's just shy, but are you positive he likes you?

I did a random google search of my name, and found a couple of links with some personal information, including a really embarrassing poem i posted 7 years ago. There are a few other sites too, but nothing this embarrassing.
Is there anything I can do to get my name removed from a google search, or at least that particular link (poem)?? Potential employers, people I'm interested in..could easily get information about me- VERY annoying. (link)
|
Say you posted something on Xanga.. You'd have to delete the post or close down your account. So, if you can, close down the accounts that you had with those particular websites, because if a webpage doesn't exist, then it won't show up on engine searches.

do i have to wash my make up brushes the frst tym i get them?
can i not?
why why not? (link)
|
You don't have to.
If the brush came in a plastic cover, then I wouldn't wash it, but if it was out in a jar where the bristles were exposed, I'd wash it. Brushes that are left uncovered can collect dust or germs when other people touch them.
If you have a brush that will go close to your eyes, like for eyeliner, then I would definitely wash it.
Don't forget that you should wash your brushes periodically, maybe once a month, depending on how heavily you use them. This rids the brushes of bacteria build-up and rotting makeup. Plus, the makeup will show up better.

I'm a 16 year old female and I'm new to the whole working-out thing. I've been doing pilates and running for the past year but I do it randomly, so it doesn't count much.
Whenever I sweat, I get hives on my knees, thighs, and arms. I do have a skin condition called "Eczema" but, as far as I know, that doesn't have much to do with hives. I'm allergic to peanut butter, cats and dogs, and that's about it. So why would sweat trigger hives on my skin? (link)
|
I'm in the same boat because I have eczema and all kinds of allergies too. If I get sweat on the spots where I have eczema, it gets irritated and itchy, but I don't get hives, so I don't think the hives are from eczema.
Anyways, don't put lotion, body sprays or perfume on before you exercise. If you had put lotion on earlier in the day, that should be okay. This may sound strange, but try working out while your skin is clean, like take a shower a little bit before you exercise.
The problem could be that you are simply irritated by sweat or the heat. Exercise indoors where there is air conditioning so you can keep cool.

i was molested at 7 by a older kid who my grandmother would babysit. everytime she would to sleep he would take me and play games where i would suck him and he would finger me. im now 15 and my mom and my bff knows but my mom doesnt know the extent. i have repressed it so much and when his father died my family went to his wake and all i wanted to do was laugh. but then i saw him and went to the car and cried and mind u this is the first time i have acknowledged it. so now i have a masturbation problem and i look at porn and stuff online. i cant do this much longer i feel guilty and pray to God for me to stop but do it again i feel as if i am truly a bad person who fakes a front of happiness. inside of me there is a hidden darkness that rears it ugly head when i feel lonely or sad and have suicidal thoughts i know i would never do it cuz i hate pain but i dont think this is normal and the worst part is that when my bf touches me i feel dirty or repulsed i desperately want to serve God but i cant because of my past
sry for the rambling and bad grammar but i dont know what to do (link)

There are some really ugly people in this world. I'm really sorry that that happened to you, but please believe me when I tell you this.. You did NOT deserve it. Nobody does.
The best thing you can do is try to deal with it and overcome it. Yes, it's a horrible thing, but making yourself forget doesn't mean it didn't happen. You need to confront it and confide in someone, whether it be your mother, best friend, boyfriend, counselor, therapist, anyone. Confronting it may be the hardest thing you have to do, but you won't be true to yourself if you don't. Just talking about it will relieve some of the pain and just get it off of your chest, because I'm sure you're feeling very burdened.
My pretty much best friend in the world was sexually abused as a child. I love her to death, but I hate what she does. She lets other guys use her because it makes her feel important, but it also makes her hate herself even more, and this is all because she didn't deal with it. She won't accept that she didn't deserve what happened to her. Anyways, my point is that I don't want you to get to that point. It's a vicious cycle and very hard to come out of, so I want to steer you away from even going in that direction. Unfortunately, I met my best friend recently, so she was already like that when I met her, but the good thing is that she isn't like that anymore.
Please understand that it's the things that you do that make you a bad person, not the shit that happened to you. You didn't CHOOSE to be abused. You didn't choose for that to happen to you. You can't change the past, but you can choose how you live your life and to build a better future for yourself.
My inbox is always open so feel welcome to send me a message if you want to talk more.
Best of luck and keep your head held high

im in college and whenever i go out i usually bring a purse with me ( and im usually the only one of my friends to bring one ) but i need things when i go to parties like my phone..camera..keys..makeup ect. i was wondering if i should start carrying a clutch? i have some wristlets but they just dont seem to be able to fit a digital camera and cell phone lol. when i see girls wearing clutches they're usually wearing dresses..which i dont normally wear. so my question is.......would it look okay to wear a clutch handbag with jeans and a nice top? dressy outfits but not a dress?
sorry this is so confusing =] (link)
|
OF COURSE you can wear a clutch with jeans! You can pretty much wear it with anything. If it were a more formal clutch, then it should be worn with formal attire, but other than that, they're very versatile! If you aren't sure what to do, then get a simple black clutch, which will pretty much match everything.

Okay so with financial aid for college...
I know that typically when you're including your housing fees in the student loan that you're talking about on-campus living like in a dorm...right?
Well can you get a student loan that will cover the cost of a small apartment off campus while you're in college?
I was class of 08 high school but I didn't graduate because I didn't have enough credits...so starting winter semester (because while the fall semester of college is going on I'll be finishing high school) I'm going to community college. I'll finish up the year in community college but for next year I'm hoping to get into Eastern Michigan University.
They have on-campus housing BUT...I have 2 dogs. I know SOME universities allow pets to stay in certain dorms, but not EMU and none of the ones that I found had my major available (Interior Design).
For most college students this isn't an issue, they just leave the dogs at home, but one of my dogs is the type that attaches himself to one human, which is me. And my family doesn't like him because of that...so I don't trust them to take care of him properly because a) they don't like him, b) he doesn't like them very much either, c) none of them are responsible pet owners and d) he has a liver condition that he needs a very specific diet for. My other dog I'd have less of a problem leaving her behind because the family likes her more and she has no special needs. However she has had my older dog around her entire life and I don't think she would do well without him. So at the VERY MINIMUM I need to take the one dog and he weighs 10 lbs so it shouldn't be difficult finding an apartment that allows dogs his size. My other dog weighs around 60 so I'm kind of worried that I may be forced to leave her behind. The ideal would be to take both.
So my main question is do student loans cover off campus living expenses?
But as a side question...do you know of any colleges that allow dogs to live on campus? (link)
|
You can do that, but it really depends on the loan, so you have to ask questions and read the fine print. If you're taking a loan from a bank, be sure to ask someone about it. So just make sure that whoever you're getting it from, you know for sure that they will cover your apartment. Also, make sure you find a place that accepts animals.
Anyways, if you need to take out a loan to cover your apartment, then maybe you should reconsider. Do you really HAVE to move out? It would save you TONS of money if you stay at home while going to a community college, which is what most people do.
At Michigan State, I'm almost positive that there are some apartments where you can have dogs. They may not be on-campus apartments though.

i know this sounds kinda weird and im definitely not trying to sound racist, but why do asian people always seem to have the clearest skin and softest hair? (link)
|
I know you aren't trying to sound racist, but that is clearly a blanket statement. Not all asians have clear skin or soft hair. Some have really acne prone skin and coarse hair. Asian skin tends to have more oils because our diets have more iodine in it from fish and soy sauce, so you could kind of say we are genetically prone like that since we've been eating like that for hundreds of years. It's just like how people from certain regions have different traits and features (like how people hailing from humid or tropical regions tend to have wider noses).

I'm 23 years old. I have a full time job, I get paid once a month, roughly $1300. I still live at home so I have no 'bills' except for my cell phone and a car payment, that is about $300 together. That leaves me with about $1000.
I want to try and move out either by the end of this year or early next year. But, I cannot save money for the life of me, and I really have nothing to show for why I don't have money. But by the end of the month I'm lucky if I have $5.
Can you give me some ideas on how to start saving my money? I really could use it!
Thanks!
:) (link)
|
Do you do a direct deposit? My best friend had a serious problem with spending. Once she got a job, she did a direct deposit to her bank and it actually worked. It's much easier because they don't put the money in her hands so she can spend it right away.
I've known many people close to me in your situation, and it took them YEARS to move out. If you are serious about getting your own place, you should only take out what you NEED ($300 + however much you need for food).
I'm not sure who you live with, but if you live with your parents, then maybe you should give them the money to hold onto if they are trustworthy and responsible with money. That way, you won't have a way of getting it when you get the urges to go out and spend.
Do you know what you spend your money on? Sometimes I don't even know where my money went. At the end of the week, you should put all your receipts together and add up how much you spend on unnecessary costs. It will really surprise you and hopefully scare you out of spending so much.
Try to avoid places where you know you will splurge, like the mall or fast food. If you do go shopping, bring a friend, someone who you know will persuade you out of buying, not someone who will encourage you (like saying everything looks cute on you).

what's the song "white houses" by vanessa carlton about?? sorry this is really random (link)
|
Wonderful song. If I listen to it, it gets stuck in my head for hours!
It's her personal experience about losing her virginity. Vanessa was training to be a professional ballet dancer. She went to a prestigious ballet school where they housed the dancers in "white houses" in the summer. She makes a pact with her roommates that they'd be friends forever. She sees Jenny as a perfect, fun-loving girl, but as perfect as she is, Vanessa must have something more special than her, because she sleeps with her boyfriend (I believe). She ends up losing her virginity to the guy in the backseat of his car on a hot summer day, which she painfully regrets. After that, she feels like a completely different person. Their pact is broken and she will "never be back again".

sometimes i feel like doing my life over again... but if i could i probably wouldn't make the same mistakes.. but allot of people say i would.. is that true??? and if i could do it... would i have met the same people (link)
|
Will you make the same mistakes? No. Will you make mistakes? Yes. You know what to avoid, but mistakes are inevitable and a part of life. They should teach you what to do the next time you are caught in that situation. Hopefully, you learned from them and changed. However, not everyone learns from their mistakes because they are too stubborn or to ignorant to even accept that they were wrong.
Chances are you would not have met the same people. You'd meet other people, which could be good and bad.
Anyways, you shouldn't regret the past. You should take what you learned and move on. Personally, I'm glad for some of the bad things that happened in my life because they made me who I am today. I've made some really bad mistakes, but I also changed drastically from them, and I'm really happy with who I am today, regardless of the past. The past is in the past, so leave it there.

17/f. I've always thought denim jackets were really cute, but I've never bought one because I'm not sure what pants to wear with it. I wear jeans all the time... but if I wear jeans AND a denim jacket, will I look like I have a denim fetish? If anyone else has a denim jacket, what pants do you wear with it? I'm pretty normal sized, so any suggestions are appreciated! (link)
|
You can ALWAYS get them at denim jean stores, like Lucky Brand, True Religion, Diesel, DKNY jeans, Guess. I understand those are expensive stores, but to get them at other stores depends on the season I guess. The Gap should probably have them, especially now because it's almost fall. There's also L.E.I. and Levi's which are in the department stores.
It's kind of difficult to pair denim with denim. It's tacky and out of style to pair matching denim pants and a jacket. You can mix a jacket and jeans of different washes, but it's pretty hard to get it right. Here's a pic of a good match (it's a guy but whatever we're just looking at the colors here lol).
http://us.st12.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/solissf_2010_252966163
Anyways, I wear mine with yoga pants (black, pink, or grey), VS Pink sweatpants (so cute!), a mini dress (where it's tight around the legs), or over a long fitted tunic with tight leggings. And this is all with the same jacket!!! So you see, denim jackets are so versatile and can really go with anything.

My teeth are pretty white, but I want them STARK white before school starts (August 28th).
So does anybody know a good product (preferably whitening STRIPS, not gel), that works really well and within a couple weeks?
If it's more than $30, then I don't want it! lol thanks (link)
|
I tried Crest Whitestrips and they were only $16 at Wal-Mart. The box says you can see a difference after five days but it took me about a week. It hasn't worked wonders for me but there's a slight difference.
By the way, the strips are gel. Well, they are plastic but there is the gel on them (think of when you spread jam on toast).
Also, be careful if you have sensitive teeth. If you do, then there's no use getting the strips because they really hurt your teeth. It feels like you're holding your teeth in ice cream or something lol.
I'm not advocating against whitening strips; I'm just telling you my personal experience with them, so that doesn't necessarily mean you won't get a good result. So I say give them a try.

Lately, I've had no energy. It's not because of lack of sleep, I've been getting at least 8 hours. I'm actually not sure what it's from. I'm afraid that when school starts (August 28th), I'm not going to be able to wake up (at 5) and have enough energy to go about the day.
I drink coffee on the occasion-only when i'm REALLY tired. Please help! (link)
|
8 hours is good, but if it exceeds 10, then that could be a big reason why. But I can see two big reasons why you're so tired. First, there's a big chance that the problem is what you eat. If you aren't eating carbs, then that's definitely it. Carbs are energy. By the way, carbs are not bad. It's only bad if you aren't active, that's when it makes you fat. Are you eating healthy? Are you eating enough? The daily recommended caloric intake is about 2000 calories, more if you are active.
The second thing is your activity. People who are lethargic and inactive are more tiresome. If you aren't working out, exercising, playing a sport, or just walking down your street, then you should get out more! It really DOES give you more energy throughout the day and relieves stress.
So, try not to oversleep, eat healthier and EXERCISE! Just try it and you'll see.
