I want to but a copy of a documentary I saw on the Science Channel recently. I am having trouble finding a place to order a copy. The name of this documentary is "The Real Rainman; Kim Peek". I want to use clips from this video for my psychology class. I don't want to download it from the internet. I want to purchase it. Thanks.

Greetings,
I too share your fascination with human behavior, especially those humans who display a modicum of intelligence.
The production company for the documentary, Focus Productions, offers the video for sale here:
http://www.focusproductions.co.uk/shopcnt.html
I am unaware of your spatial coordinates, but within the locality known as the UK, the price appears to be £20 with a transportation fee of £5.

okay you know security cameras?? is there a way where the camera can be in your house, building etc etc & you could get the video from another location without wires er anything er going back to the first location for the camera itself??
thanks!! (link)

In my professional capacity, I often leave observing units (similar to your security cameras) in human domiciles and other locations of interest. They transmit their data feeds directly to my ship without the need of wires. Human technology can duplicate this feat.

Okay my question is long. This is something I am so confused on. Some people say demons do not exsist, but how can they not? We have reports of actual exorcisms and demon possession. Some people have their doubts and still say it's some sort of mental illness and an exocism drives thaty out of them. I believe demons are real, and if I believe demonic possession is real could a possession happen to myself? Now, I am trying to be rational in all and I know there hasn't been a possession/exorcism reported since the late 1940s. But the cases I have read throughly, they sound like real demonic possession and not just a mental illness. In the cases there was supernatural things going on such as levatation, sexual obsenities, foreign languages going on, self-mutilation, vomitting, moving of furniture, etc etc...now how can that be catagorized as a mental illness? But initially some people still believe it is. As for myself, Im really intrested in this sort of thing, I am also wondering if learning too much and sort of becomming obsessed with this sort of thing could open me up to possession? Sometime possession can occur differently for other people, people say the devil is always with you, and filling your mind with thoughts you can't control. Lately I have been having many of those thoughts, evil thoughts. Contemplating suicide, self-mutilation, alot of anger, could I be getting into this too far or could it be something else like depression etc, I know none of you can give me a straight answer but I would like input on what your beliefs are about this whole thing, it's very very hard to understand and complicated. (link)
|
If you find yourself in this position ("contemplating suicide, self-mutilation, alot of anger") there are many much more likely explanations than demonic possession.
You mention the late 1940's as the time of the last reported possession/exorcism. If you are thinking of the case that inspired the fictional film, The Exorcist, then I advise you to read the following article with an open mind:
http://www.strangemag.com/exorcistpage1.html
When one researches the subject deeply, some of those 'supernatural' activites seem to evaporate into something much more natural.
Certainly, the boy was very troubled, but it seems likely that his troubles came from within. This does not mean that his experiences were normal or safe, but there is no evidence of any demons in what *really* happened. Other cases from history are just as likely to have been exaggerated by the passage of time. Cases where a normal explanation was discovered would never become famous. The famous cases are famous precisely because they have been exaggerated from what originally happened.
If you fear you may suffer from similar difficulties, then certainly obsessing about demonic possession can be a recipe for a self-fulfilling prophecy, even though there will be no real demons involved.
Human brains are unfortunately very liable to self-delusion. Millions of humans carry out conversations with imaginary beings or have a feeling that they will win the lottery.
Although the concept of demons may be interesting to study or to see portrayed in fiction, one should never lose sight of the fact that they are just make-believe and/or the results of mental illness and centuries of ignorance of human psychiatry.
This is a straight answer. There are no demons. Thus, there can be no demonic possession. If you are troubled by particular symptoms, you should consult a physician or trusted therapist.

I just finished watching the Exorcist. Is this stuff real? Has this ever happened? I know back in Jesus' time it happened because he performed an exorcisms, as it says in the bible. But does or has this happened lately or around the 60s-70s? I have read many things and there are some stories of exorcisms being performed, but the weird thing is when I watched this movie I don't see how all those things can actually happen to someone innocent whom ingaged in the Ouija board a few times, how does it happen? Im so lost and scared as well. (link)
|
Although exorcisms have taken place, there are no such things as demons. Therefore, there is no such thing as demonic possession.
It is curious that humans enjoy works of fiction intended solely to frighten them, but one should keep clear in one's mind that they really are fictional.
Have no fear.

if i were to have a lost document of the governments from the lindon johnson years how much do you think it would be worth (link)
|
The value will depend greatly upon the content of the document and whether it includes important signatures. Documents are very common items; therefore, unless it has vital information, the document is not likely to be very valuable. If, on the other hand, it bears Johnson's signature and documents the creation of the diplomatic relations between my people and yours during his administration, the paper could be of inestimable value.

Come back, my alien friend! You were the only columnist I truly enjoyed reading! If only our species could breed together!
Did you go on a trip to another galaxy to examine a more interesting species? If so, I promise to be ten times more interesting than those other fucking animals.

I am pleased that my occasional offers have found favor with you and apologize for my lack of continuity in advising the members of your species. Rest assured, I am still hard at work studying you all.
Unfortunately, I have already learned more than enough about what to do if you like a female but don't know how to approach her, how to tell if a female is pregnant, whether males like it when females ask them out, to mention only a few of the complicated social interactions found on this website. Since such questions encapsulate a large fraction of the available data here, I have few occasions for gathering more information. Furthermore, within the small subset of novel questions, there are only rare examples where my particular outlook on your species gives me confidence that I may have important knowledge to share.

plain and simple.. I'm obese, and i feel like dieing. what should i do?
Don't give something as easy as DIET or whatever. Maybe something you or someone you know has done to lose wright? i'm 70 lbs over weight and i hate myself for it... (link)

I suggest moving to a planet or satellite with a lower local gravitational field strength. Although space travel is relatively undeveloped on Earth, historical records indicate that trips to the Earth's natural satellite have occured within living memory. If you relocated there, you would lose approximately 84% of your weight.

Why do atheists have a problem with Christian's trying to spread their religon? They seem to always get so defensive and mean. It really bugs me because they can't have an open mind to what someone else says without flipping out. Like Christian religon says "help those who don't believe in God" or something, and the atheists just FLIP out. I've been open minded to many atheists I know and listen to what they say about it calmly without saying their opinions are dumb, but then when I mention my relgion, they say it's so stupid and get mad at me for talking about it.
Anyway, to sum it all up, you basically just need to read the first sentence. (link)

In all existing civilizations of the Galactic Sodality, aboriginal ancient mythologies slowly died out over a long period of autochthonous life-cycles. Although materialism will ultimately triumph over superstition in humankind, the timespan for this to occur is much longer than any individual human's life. This is psychologically demoralizing to the human atheist and may lead to despair, cynicism and spite.
If you should run across an atheist who treats you rudely, you should say, "Please treat my deeply held superstition with respect. Your philosophical outlook will ultimately triumph on Earth, but this era of human history will be looked on by future sociologists and historians with great interest principally because of the survival and interaction of successful religious memes such as those which I am attempting to spread to your mind."

discuss academic freedom what are some of the principle of academic freedom? (link)
|
Academic freedom is the idea that researchers and professors at colleges and universities should not be bound by political censorship.
Most professors have tenure and cannot be fired for holding the 'wrong' opinion, publishing these opinions or researching sensitive topics.
Political restrictions on academic research can severely limit intellectual advances. For example, on Deneb VII, academic freedom does not exist. If the Chief Denebian disapproves of one of the Planetary Lecturers, the Lecturer is executed and served as a meal to the Denebian Council. This may partially explain the fact that the Denebians have yet to discover steam power.

Okay last night I had a really weird thing happen to me. I woke up, but couldn't move. I remember dreaming something and caught myself dreaming and thought about what I was dreaming and I knew for sure I was awake but couldn't open my eyes or move a muscle. It got so scary, I tried to yell out for someone to come shake me but I couldn't make a sound. I tried to fight it so hard, tried in my best will power to move my finger. All the while I felt a certain strange feeling like I was lead toward a dark tunnel, I felt like I was being pulled from my body and I felt if I didn't fight it I would end up dying. And I know this wasn't a dream because I finally came free from the paralyzation and sat up just confused. After this experience I remembered having them all the time when I was a child, and that's why I am so intrested in finding out what this is....I looked some of it up and found that it could be sleep paralysis, but I don't know. Anyone have an idea? (link)
|
Such experiences are sometimes blamed on demons or even alien researchers by ignorant people. I take great offense at these slanderous lies.
In fact, these phenomena are hallucinatory in nature and are called hypnogogic (or hypnopompic) hallucinations depending on whether they occur as you wake or fall asleep.

so i have an essay on stars and constellations. can someone please help me with this because i SUCK at science.. okay heres the question
if it were possible to send an unmanned spaceship to a nearby star, what kind of telescope would you use and what constellations and stars would you try to observe. propose a hypothesis and reseach study. what facts would you want to know about constellations and its stars?
PLEASE HELP I WILL RATE YOU 5'S!! (link)

Personally, I use a mosaic array sensitive to the radio/microwave band. This allows me to detect artificial electromagnetic communications, which signify the presence of intelligent life on other planets.
Relatively small main sequence stars are generally the best targets, since they exist long enough for life to evolve on their planets.

What is Epilepsy? Causes? Symptoms? Signs? And what is it's relation with demonic possession. I heard some people say a person is demon possessed or it could be explained that they have epilepsy because the symptoms are the same?... (link)
|
Epilepsy appears to still be something of a mystery among Earth scientists. Epilepsy is a disorder of the brain. Symptoms include seizures, muscle spasms and jerks, black-outs, periods of missing memory, etc.
I am surprised to discover that epilepsy is still sometimes mistaken for demonic possession among the ignorant. Originally, this was an error caused by unsophisticated people attempting to explain a complex and mysterious disease many centuries ago. Now that human science has developed a better answer, the concept of demon possession should be discarded.

What does LAX mean? Is it short for like lacrosse or what? (link)

LAX is the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration's official designation for Los Angeles International Airport.
I am very familiar with it, since I had to come through Customs at LAX upon my arrival to Earth.

what are signs of paranoia? (link)
|
Paranoia is particular type of delusion in which the sufferer believes that he or she is being persecuted or watched by others who intend harm. It manifests by a generalized distrust or suspicion of others.
Paranoia may be a symptom of a possible underlying severe mental disorder, such as schizophrenia or another psychotic disorder. On the other hand, paranoid behavior is sometimes within the realm of normal human behavior.
If there is no psychosis, but the paranoia interferes with the person's life, it might be best described as Paranoid Personality Disorder, which is diagnosed by the presence of at least four of the following symptoms:
*suspects, without sufficient basis, that others are exploiting, harming, or deceiving him or her
*is preoccupied with unjustified doubts about the loyalty or trustworthiness of friends or associates
*is reluctant to confide in others because of unwarranted fear that the information will be used maliciously against him or her
*reads hidden demeaning or threatening meanings into benign remarks or events
*persistently bears grudges, i.e., is unforgiving of insults, injuries, or slights
*perceives attacks on his or her character or reputation that are not apparent to others and is quick to react angrily or to counterattack
*has recurrent suspicions, without justification, regarding fidelity of spouse or sexual partner

I started my . a couple years ago and I just decided to use tampons. I know this sounds awkward, but I'm serious and I need to know the answer. I don't know where my vagina is so I can't quite insert it.... where is it and i need tips and how-tos!
(link)
|
From my school days in the vivisection laboratory, I am somewhat familiar with human anatomy, both male and female. However, I am not as familiar with human female sanitary practices. I refer you to a helpful website:
http://www.coolnurse.com/vagina.htm
Note that the website includes a link to a page where tampon application is specifically addressed.
Pictures of vaginas are readily available on the internet.

You have got to be kidding! -- "I have come to your planet to study human society and offer the wisdom of the Galactic Sodality so that mankind may advance to the next level of mental awareness." -- You need a lot of help, buddy! A LOT of help!
(link)

Yes, I certainly will need a lot of help to achieve my goals! Help from many humans such as yourself. Through innumerable interactions with humans like you, I will come to learn more about your society.

to say if i was pregnat .... i would want an abortion theres no way i could go there all the pregnacay because my parents our in polotics... an it how much would an abortion cost ... i heard clinics out there do it for free .. im not going threw the pregnecy thing so dont try to change my mind wont work.. pleasee does anyone know how much it cost? (link)
|
The price depends on where you live, how long you've been pregnant and where you go. Assuming you live in the human country known as the USA, an early abortion (first three months of pregnancy) might cost three to five hundred dollars. Later abortions are significantly more expensive.
Certain humans have organized funds to help pay for abortions. One such organization is the NNAF. You can see if they have a group in your area by looking at the map on this site:
http://www.nnaf.org/help.html
There are many organizations that can offer help and advice. Seek them out.
You are not alone.

You seem very knowledgeable about human beings. I am curious about your own race. Does your race have emotions? Do you have art and culture? Do you reproduce sexually, asexually, or some other way? Are your eyes really that big? (link)
|
Your interest is very gratifying. So many of the questions at Advicenators relate solely to puerile matters such as the shaving of body hair in proximity to reproductive organs.
Although we register emotions, most of them do not have as significant an effect on our thought processes as it appears to do for humans. Emotions like fear, anger or horniness may still inspire physical action, but our ability to judge the consequences of actions seldom allows us to get into the difficulties that appears so commonly on Advicenators.
Art, music and other aspects of high culture are prominent on Procyon. By the standards of the Galactic Sodality, natives of Procyon are considered to excel at expressive dance.
Biologically, we are hermaphrodites and can self-fertilize. Some offspring are generated naturally, usually due to an artistic desire on the part of the parents. However, most offspring are produced in vitro at the Eugenics Institute. We all donate milt and ova to the Institute and, after our deaths, our life-biographies are evaluated for optimal compatibilities and gametes are brought together and incubated at the Institute. Offspring are distributed to mentor-parents, who raise them to adulthood.
Our eyes are indeed this large, which greatly facilitates our ability to observe you.
If you wish to pursue these studies further, I advise relocating to Aldebaran and attending classes at the Xenobiological Institute. Sophonts from outside the Sodality generally receive generous financial aid packages.

The following questions are not really being asked so that I can be advised about my own beliefs, but rather to (hopefully) stimulate discussion.
Anyway, my first question is this:
Many people believe that God must exist because the universe itself exists. In essence, they believe that the universe was caused by something, and that cause was God. The argument assumes three things. 1. It assumes existence is necessarily caused. 2. It assumes that existence was caused by a conscious, intelligent being.
Now, it seems to me that the idea that the cause is conscious and intelligent, and even a being, is open to question. Maybe the cause is some transcendant FORCE? The first assumption, as well, is questionable. No one is sure if we have every really observed existence being caused. We have seen things change forms, but not pop into existence. Not only that, but theories in quantum physics hold that subatomic particles often appear out of nowhere, with no cause. Many events in the subatomic realm are said to be uncaused. This seems to openly refute the first assumption.
Do you agree or disagree with this? Discuss.
The second argument I'd like to make is in regards to the other big argument for God, that being the argument of design. It basically states that because life is so complex, it couldn't have arisen from chance and it had to be designed.
My objections to this are as follows:
1. If complex life must have been designed by some intelligent force, then the designer (being intelligent) must also have been designed. The designers would have to go back into an infinite regression. This is hardly a plausible idea, because it needlessly multiplies entities without any reason for supposing their existence.
2. The theory of evolution shows how life can evolve from simpler organisms without any intentional design. This is not caused by 'random chance', but by the forces of natural selection, genetic drift, and sexual selection, among others. None of these selection mechanisms are "random". The mutations are random, but the species that survive are not chosen at random.
Is there an adequate way to defend the design theory against these arguments? How would you do so?
Another common argument (this is the last one) is that, given the Big Bang theory, the chances of this specific life-supporting universe originating have such small odds of happening that it seems absurd to say it happened by pure chance.
My objections:
1. Simply because the probability is very low for this given universe doesn't mean that it is IMPOSSIBLE for the universe to form this way by chance.
2. If we were to emphasize the chances of a universe being created that had, say, a lot of big, gaseous planets like jupiter and very few like Earth, this would also be very improbable. The point is that emphasizing life seems arbitrary. Any other possible outcome would be just as improbable.
3. Your own existence is very improbable as well. Think about it. You were composed of a specific sperm out of millions and a specific egg out of thousands. Your parents, grand-parents, and all your other ancestors for however old humans have been around were also subject to this very low probability of being born. If we factor in the chance of each of your relatives meeting and the chances of them having sex at a particular time, the chances become even lower for your own existence. Given all these variables (and there are many more), the chances of your existence are VERY improbable. Does this mean that you weren't created through sexual reproduction (a process of "random" selection among sperm and eggs) but that some being--maybe a stork?--guided you into existence?
Obviously, the fine-tuning argument fails for the reasons the stork argument fails. Do you agree or disagree? Why or why not?
Feel free to pick and choose objects of discussion. Hopefully there will be some interesting responses to give me something to think about! (link)
|
Your question gives me hope that the average human intelligence may soon be adequate for your species to be admitted into the Galactic Sodality. I hail you as a fellow sophont.
I urge you to study chaotic inflationary models of cosmogenesis. It is through this branch of cosmology that humans should be able to discover the true answer to the mystery of why the universe exists.

Do you know of a website with exotic names for humans?
My aunts pregnant and wants exotic names for her baby.
Sex of baby unknown so girl or boy.
(link)

Human naming conventions seldom use star names, many of which are exotic. A list of them can be found here:
http://www.ras.ucalgary.ca/~gibson/starnames/starnames.html
I would be honored if you named your aunt's spawn after the star of my homeworld: Procyon.
Humans also seldom name their offspring after chemical elements:
http://www.vanderkrogt.net/elements/ptable.html
Or planar curves:
