when people write 3 what does that mean? (link)

3 doesn't mean anything, but if you mean >:3 or >=3 it's a face with furrowed brows and a puckered mouth.

Hi! I have a friend whose daughter is 12 years old and is 5'2 inches tall. She weighs 95 pounds and wants to lose her fat in her thighs and stomach. What kind of exercises can she do to lose that fat? and is it normal for a 12 year old to be 5'2 and weigh 95 pounds? she does not think she is over weight but she is pretty self- concious about her body. so what could she do to have a better looking body with her characteristics? (link)
|
Yes, spot reducing does not work! Doing specific exercises that target muscles like abs, thighs, glutes (butt), etc. will help BUILD the muscle underneath, but it will not burn the fat! In order to lose fat, a person must do cardio. Cardio can be anything like running, biking, swimming, aerobics, sports. Doing cardio about 3-5 days a week for at least 30 minutes, combined with healthy eating (not a diet) will work.
That's a very normal weight for her, especially at that age where she's going through puberty. I was about the same size/weight at that age. Just let her know that she will not look that way forever! Things will change in a couple of years.

Okay, I live in Florida, and my prom is on May 10, 2008.
This is the dress I bought:
http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=299536&CategoryID=35707
But I need help with what color shoes and which kind of shoes I want!
I've been thinking either silver, white, or clear shoes. I'm not sure though.
Give me your honest opinion please! :D
Don't forget to look at my dress, thats the link above!!
Thanks,
G. (link)

GOLD ALL THE WAY!
The sequins on the dress are gold anyways. You should wear gold jewelry as well, but not a yellow gold since it tends to look kinda cheap.
I didn't even know they still make white shoes.. white looks horrible and won't bring out the beauty in the dress. Don't make your 200 dollar dress look cheap. Silver will just drone out the color of the dress. The gold makes the peachy color more vibrant and really brings it out.

k so i already did one of these
and i got the guts to tell my mom about it and everything about prom iwht this guy whos a senior
and im a freshman
i honestly dont see the difference becaue i beleive its just a number but my mom doesnt
and shes al like oh i have to talk to your dad about this
and shes like i have a bad feeling about it
but id feel sooooooooo bad saying i cant now when i said yes
so im really down right now caue im scared to see what my dad has to say cause i know hes probably gonna say no but its not fair.
i get where there coming from but its just prom.
not many people get this chance.
so im gonna tell them ill do ANYTHING to go.
im gonna tell them ill get my grades up and ill listen to them more and stuff
but is there any way i can get them to trust me and stuff to let me go.
also my mom said she doesnt know him so she doesnt know
and i told her htat ill have him come over so she can meet him (link)
|
Having him come over to meet your parents is great. They can meet him and get an idea of who he is. Of course they wouldn't feel comfortable with their daughter going with a stranger.
If you want to gain trust from your parents, you have to SHOW them that you are a responsible person. Act civil, like an adult. If you don't get what you want, don't throw tantrums, retaliate, yell, keep insisting, or be bratty. That won't get what you want and it will probably make them NOT let you go even more. Instead, be calm about it and "discuss" instead of argue. Your parents will be impressed. That'll really prove a lot to your parents and shows that you really care, since you are acting with your mind instead of emotions alone.
Good luck! Hope you get to go!

yesterday i asked a question about losing weight and if my boob size would go down...and i'm also wondering if i lose weight will that also make my butt smaller? (link)
|
It all really depends. If you naturally have a larger butt that is mostly comprised of fat (this is due to genetics), then losing overall body fat will make it smaller.
If you have a butt that is mostly muscle, then to make it smaller you would have to exercise that area less. If you wanted to make your butt larger, then doing exercises like lunges or stairclimbers will build the muscle in your butt (also known at your glutes) and make your butt larger and "perkier".
Basically, if your butt is mostly fat, then losing overall body fat (by doing cardio) will make it smaller.

I just got my ACT results back.. and I got an 18, which is horrible. UGH, why am I so unintelligent? I don't know how to do better, I'm going to take it again when I can, but do people normally do better? Everyone says that you do, but really is that true? How can I prepare for the next time I take it? I'm just so frustrated. Ugh.. (link)
|
There are plenty of ACT prep books you can buy from any bookstore like Barnes and Noble. Or, you can borrow one from the library, but it might be hard to find one if everyone's checked them out. These books are huge and have a bunch of practice tests, vocab flashcards, and sample questions in them. It costs about $30. You can find discounted used books on Amazon.com or maybe even ebay.
There are tons of workshops offered where they give you test-taking tips, what to expect, practice tests. You should talk to your school counselor. I'm sure they can give you TONS of resources.
Also, if you retake the ACT, but did not study for it, then you will get the SAME SCORE. I know many people who re-took the test but kept getting the same scores. This is because they didn't do anything to improve their scores. Just make sure you give yourself enough time before retaking the test to study. Cramming does NOT work!
Maybe you can form a study group with some friends, or if there is after-school tutoring offered at your school, take advantage of it!
Good luck!

i have really big feet and i need to wear trainers next week. does anyone kno any trainers that would make my feet look relatively smaller or not make them look any bigger?
Also if i lose weight would my feet get a lil smaller??
thanx
p.s please dont reply with everybody is made in proportion and so on.... (link)
|
There really aren't any shoes that make your feet look smaller. If you have big feet, you have to wear your size. If you have wide feet, you have to wear shoes wide enough. When it comes to your feet, it's more about wearing the shoes that fit you correctly or else it can seriously mess you up, make you sore, etc.
Also, your feet won't get smaller if you lose weight.
I have big feet too. I'm only 5'3 and wear a size 9 shoe. I find that if I wear pants that are a little long and cover my ankle and part of my shoe, it doesn't make my feet look as big since it's covering some of my feet.
Anyways, don't even worry about it because not everyone notices!

does anyone know what brand jeans have the horse shoe-like design on the back pocket (for girls)? and where can you get those jeans? thanks (link)
|
Yep, those are the joey True Religion jeans. Like the first comment said, you can get them at their website, Nordstrom's, Neiman Marcus, and probably at Macy's. There is a store locater on the website if you want to see where you can get them in person.
However, they are designer jeans and cost $150 to $250!! They are also in european size.
Here is a conversion chart:
http://www.shoplastyle.com/info/sizing.asp
Here is the site:
http://www.truereligionbrandjeans.com/
You can also find them on ebay, but the problem with that is there are some fake jeans out there. Plus you don't want to buy the wrong size if you've never tried them on and not be able to return them (some sellers don't accept returns).

Where can I get the pill? Can I get it at a pharmacy or do I have to have it prescribed? Do you have to be a certain age to buy it? I'm turning 18 next month, so could I just go to my doctor by myself and buy it, or do I have to tell my parents? Because I would really love to keep it from my parents. It'd be kind of awkward to ask them. Also, about how expensive is The Pill? (link)
|
When you're 18 you can see a gynecologist. They'll give you a pap smear to see if everything's okay and then prescribe it to you. You have to drop off the prescription at a pharmacy like you would with other medicines.
You can also go to a planned parenthood or women's health clinic. They'll do the same thing (give you a checkup and prescription). You don't have to be 18 to get the pill, you can be at least 16. If you don't want to wait until you're 18 then go to planned parenthood.
If you're concerned about the cost, just tell the doctor and they prescribe you a cheaper birth control. The cheapest I know is $9/month. A more popular one is orthotricylin-lo, which usually costs $20. Others cost more than that, it just depends on the brand.
Also, when you're 18, your parents don't have to know anything because you're an adult. Just be careful when you pay bills or use insurance because your parents will be able to see what was charged. It won't say exactly what you got done but it'll say who the payment went to.

Hi i'm 17 years old and prom is in a few weeks and I heard that if you eat certain healthy foods it helps clear your skin so I was wondering what specific foods would help? (link)
|
Okay, that first person is wrong. Eating fatty or oily foods (like a greasy pizza) does NOT make you breakout. It's the oil on your SKIN, not inside of you that gets you oily. Say you got grease from a pizza on your hands then touched your face, then yes it will promote a breakout.
Avoid foods high in iodine because iodine promotes acne. these are foods like iodized salt, fish, crabs and other seafood.
Just drink plenty of water and eat a lot of veggies.

hey, i saw your answer on one of the questions related to losing weight and i thought it was really good and i was wondering if you have any advice for me.
i need to lose weight by early May. losing weight meaning, having a flatter stomach and stuff....
i've been going to the gym for about a month and a half and i go about 4 or 5 times a week.
i burn 300 cal. on the treadmill, then i do the staircase thing burning 600 cal. so i burn 900 cal. a day ... hopefully the machines are right
i used to lift weights but i stopped because fat and muscle just don't mix
during the month and a half, there came a time for about 2 or 3 weeks that i got caught up into junk food and stuff. i stopped yesterday... because i was like "this can't be helping" so i eat fruit instead.
i know it takes time to lose weight... so i was just wondering if i'm doing good so far and if there's anything else that i should be doing that can help me lose weight maybe even faster.... because i don't see any difference so far.
thanks ! (link)
|
Thanks for your question! lol
You're already on a good track because you are sticking to a routine. I would suggest maybe mixing it up. Instead of only doing treadmills and staircases, try a bike like this one:
http://www.bargain-sports-equipment.co.uk/images/bike_machine.jpg
The good part is that because of the high seat, you can work your abs as at the same time.
Also, take advantage of the preset programs on the machines (interval, forest walk, aerobic). Those are the best way to go instead of doing the same speed for 30 min. You get the best calorie burn out of the programs that mix it up because you don't get too used to it.
The calorie counter isn't the most accurate thing in the world. In reality, you could really be burning more or less than what it says. Sometimes I'm breaking up a really good sweat but the calorie counter just seems to low, you know what I mean? Just judge it by how hard you are working.
Plus, working out is not the only time you burn calories. You expend calories anytime you move, pretty much. When you are walking to classes or up and down stairs. It's minimal calorie burn, but it adds up.
It's okay that you had junk food for a minute. We're only human! Junk food is okay, but you should only have it once in a while. That won't hurt.
Are you sure there is NO change? Not in weight? Or in looks?
How healthy are you eating? If you are working out constantly but not eating right, you won't see a change. Also, if you find that your workouts are getting boring and you don't seem to sweat much, increase the intensity and do interval programs.
I'm assuming you are part of a gym. Have you attended any aerobics classes there? They're really fun ways to burn calories without even knowing it. There are all kinds of classes. Some interpret weights and equipment (which are provided), there are hip hop dance classes, salsa classes, yoga, all kinds (depending on your area). Grab a friend and do it together!
Lifting weights simply tones you up. You won't get bulky because women don't have enough testosterone to build muscle like that. You might not see a change on the scale, but when you are muscular or athletic, you tend to weigh more. I weigh 20 lbs less than what people think I weigh, but that's because I'm really fit.
Here is a wonderful website where you can track what you eat everyday. We use it in many of my classes. It's completely free. It tells you if you're getting the recommended nutrients you should be getting.

i am going to the Bahamas in a couple of months. and my friend said there there is this place where you can get coach/Louis Vuitton/douney and bourke stuff for real cheap. but she forgot what it is called. she told me what island it is on, but i forgot which one, she said it started with a T. and i think the name is something like Straw Market or something like that. if you know what i am talking about please tell me about it! thanks! (link)
| |
I'm not exactly sure what island you're talking about but there are soo many places that sell fake purses. Try to bargain with them too so you can get them even cheaper.
|
|
i don't know what subject this should be in, but, ok, i want to get my bellybutton pierced, and i live in utah. i know places where i can get it done, but, does anyone know about how much it would cost? most people say it costs ... plus the price of the jewelry. but, if i have a bellybutton ring, do you think they would use it, so i don't have to get one there? thanks! (link)
|
It depends on where you go to. You can stop by some places and ask so you can compare the prices, but generally it's like this:
$30 for the actual piercing process
$30 more or less for the ring (depends on what ring you get)
$5-10 for cleaning products
So you're looking at around $60-70.
You CAN bring in your own belly ring. However, they charge you extra. I'm pretty sure it has to be a high grade steel, meaning, it can't be a cheap ring from a department store or the mall. Low grade quality rings will give you an infection. You can't even wear mall jewelry until at least a year after you've gotten pierced.

well i am really scared, i am female 13 will be 14 in May. Me and my friend Tara over heard her brother talking about this party. So we decided to sneak out and go to it. Well Tara really freaked when she saw all the booze and stuff. So she left i stayed. I am not sure how i happen but 4 guys got me into a bed room. well i am not sure how but they all and sex with me. i dont know what to do (link)
|
Oh my goodness.. I am very sorry...
Were you intoxicated? It doesn't matter if you were or not, what matters is that these boys took advantage of you and possibly raped you (if you said No and it was not consensual sex). Do you have any idea who they are? What you need to do is tell an adult RIGHT AWAY.
You can (and SHOULD) get tested at a Planned Parenthood. You could be pregnant, have an STD, or even both.. The good thing about planned parenthood is that, since you are a minor, all of the services are free (pregnancy tests, STD tests) and they will NOT tell your parents. Have a friend go with you for support.
Good luck and I really hope you tell an adult (parent, counselor, a teacher you are close with, older siblings or cousins, anyone!!)

I'll be going for a pool party tomorrow and I really wanted to swim but my periods came unexpectedly today. So I was asking, is it okay to swim while on your periods? (link)
|
You can swim while you're on your period, but you should wear a tampon (if you're comfortable with it). Make sure you change it right when you get out so there isn't any chlorine left that can irritate your skin.
Also, your period doesn't just LEAK OUT when you're in the water. If you've ever taken a bath while on your period, it's not like the water turns completely red or anything.
Anyways, just wear a tampon and you'll be fine!!

so i'm getting mine done for my 14th birthday. cute i know. okay so can anyone tell me how bad it hurts in comparison to getting your cartilage on your ear pierced, cuz i got that done and it wasn't bad at all. (link)
|
The only thing that actually HURTS when you get your navel pierced is the clamps. It's a very harddd pinch that'll be held for like 30 seconds. When they thread the needle through, it feels UNCOMFORTABLE, but does not actually hurt. It's no comparison to the clamps so you might not even feel it going through.
To answer your question, cartilage piercing hurts WAY worse than your belly button. Trust me. But you have to be extremely careful not to knock your navel ring around because it basically rips the hole slightly and stings!

people say you have to sleep atleast 8 hours a day .
i'm trying to loose my nags under my eyes. but i sleep 7 hours night-till morning and on that day i wake up i take a 1-2 hour nap.
is that okay?
will that cure my baggs? (link)
|
You are obviously getting enough sleep. You can buy those remedy creams from the drugstore (like Oil of Olay products) but they don't work that well. Home remedies can be putting slices of cucumbers over your eyes, which is what this site says
http://www.oohoi.com/natural%20remedy/home%20remedy/Home-Remedy-for-Bags-Under-Eyes.htm
However, are your bags hereditary? Like does your mom have bags? A good friend of mine has had them since we were little. The only way she fixed them was by covering them up with concealer.

So I'm going into High School next year
All my friends are going to a Technical High school
They all left me behind
So now I'm going into High School with only a few other people I know from grade school who arent really my 'friends'
Chances are I wont even see them
How can I make new friends?
I'm really shy if I don't know someone
So I don't have the guts to just go up to someone and say hi
But when you get to know me I'm outgoing and just a bubble of energy
But I'm fat...do people like ebing friends with fat girls?
(link)
|
Aww, honey, your weight is something you shouldn't be ashamed of!! From what you say, you seem like a positive, awesome girl, which is what really matters. Plus, I'm sure you won't be the only big girl at your school. If people chose friends by how they looked, then they aren't real friends.
You don't have to just go up to someone and start a convo. Just make "small talk" with the people who are sitting around you. Or every time you have a question, ask the person next to you. Eventually, you will talk more and it'll lead up to sitting together at lunch, etc. Trust me, you'll be fine, just don't be scared and be yourself!

my hair was probably down to the middle of/almost under my boobs. and it was getting split ends so i went to this really nice haircutting place and they took so much off. it probably has atleast an inch off when i asked for a half. i have really wavy hair & they layered it too, so it looks even more shorter. i hate it when my hairs short.
how much does hair grow in a month!? :( (link)
|
Actually, wearing it up in a ponytail ALL time promotes breakage, as does any wear and tear you do to your hair (excessive brushing, blowdrying, styling, straightening).
MOST hair grows 1/2 an inch a month. For some people, it grows less than that, and for others, it grows faster. It really depends on the person. Mine grows 3/4 an inch which is really fast.
Keep in mind that what you eat and how much you take care of it definitely influences hair growth. Eat lots of protein (fish, eggs, beans) because it's good for your hair. Lots of stress and medication can hinder growth.
Basically, eat protein and take care of your hair! Sorry they cut too much off. I think they do that because it will grow out nicely. They always cut a little more off of mine, but when it grows out, it looks sooo good.

how come there are some families that dont really care what their kids do? they'll let them have sex and just do whatever they want to do. do they not think that they will get in troulbe? (link)

Here is a psychology approach to that answer. There are four types of parenting styles:
1) Indulgent parents ("permissive" or "nondirective") "are more responsive than they are demanding. They are nontraditional and lenient, do not require mature behavior, allow considerable self-regulation, and avoid confrontation" Indulgent parents may be further divided into two types: democratic parents, who, though lenient, are more conscientious, engaged, and committed to the child, and nondirective parents.
2) Authoritarian parents are highly demanding and directive, but not responsive. "They are obedience- and status-oriented, and expect their orders to be obeyed without explanation". These parents provide well-ordered and structured environments with clearly stated rules. Authoritarian parents can be divided into two types: nonauthoritarian-directive, who are directive, but not intrusive or autocratic in their use of power, and authoritarian-directive, who are highly intrusive.
3) Authoritative parents are both demanding and responsive. "They monitor and impart clear standards for their children’s conduct. They are assertive, but not intrusive and restrictive. Their disciplinary methods are supportive, rather than punitive. They want their children to be assertive as well as socially responsible, and self-regulated as well as cooperative".
4) Uninvolved parents are low in both responsiveness and demandingness. In extreme cases, this parenting style might encompass both rejecting–neglecting and neglectful parents, although most parents of this type fall within the normal range.
The kind of parents you are describing are the uninvolved parents.
If you are asking what drives the parents to adapt a certain style, it can because it was a learned experience (your mom will raise you the way her parents did), or they DON'T want to raise you the same way their parents did (your mom thinks, I don't like the way my mom raised me, look how I turned out, I will NOT raise my child like that).
Some parents will just spoil their children or let them do what they want because 1) They love them and want to give them the world, 2) They have given up on their children, they will give the child what he wants to make him stop whining.
My parents are authoritarian. however, I kept disobeying them and kept going out. They eventually gave up on me. I don't even tell them when I got out and they don't really care. They know I won't listen.
