Hi all,
I just got a new iPod:)!
Can I have some help transfering my music from Limewire, or at least into an area where I can put it onto my iPod? (link)
Open iTunes and your 'shared' directory (where Limewire saves the files), select the files you want, and click-and-drag them to iTunes. They should be added the the iPod no worries.

this is most likely the wrong category but whatever i was just wondering can you be gay if you dont want to. (link)
FYI - the rating system works with 5 meaning good, and 1 meaning bad. You might want to revise the 'gay is a choice' guy's rating.

Unless you think he's a lone voice of truth, I suppose.
EDIT: guess so. Why ask when you've already made up your mind?

As for the actual topic, I can personally confirm that sexual orientation is not a choice. If it was I'd be bi; and I'm straight, so it isn't. Isn't empirical evidence nice?

Is color gaurd popular like cheerleader, because my sister said that it was like being a cheerleader, but i dont know if that is true or not?
So, my question is this basically:
Are color gaurd people treated like how the cheerleaders are? (popular or not?)
Thanks ahead of time?

No.

how do u seen virus to people?? by email!! (link)
The first thing you do it learn how to type correctly. The second thing you do is realise that something like this is too much trouble to actually do.

I don't know of any site which archives viruses in a deliverable form, but there's loads of them on P2P networks. Probably your best bet is to search for '.exe' and download a few small files from the results (probably less than 100K). Copy them to a seperate folder, then run a virus scanner on them (most virus scanners have a 'scan file' option, possibly accessable from the right-click menu). It will most likely indicate that one or more of them is infected. It will probably report what it is infected with, so you can look that up on the internet and see what it does. Most viruses these says are non-destructive, so if you want to bother the person you're probably best off looking for a browser hijacker or other malware. If you're a '1337 h4x0r' you can use a trojan and subsequently gain access to their computer, but you're not.

Attach the program to an email and send it to them. You will have to convince them to open the attachment, so you'll have to come up with a compelling story which will cause them to do so. Send the email.

At this point it's out of your hands. For it to work, the person will have to both not have a virus scanner installed, and be stupid enough to open the attachment.

I suppose I'm obliged to point out that giving people viruses is bad, but I can't really bring myself to care.

ohkay, everyone is telling me that the world is going to end in 4 days (6-6-06) (the devil's number.) I AM REALLY SCARED OVER THIS. I CAN BARLEY SLEEP. im like pettrified. is what they're telling me true or is a myth? and do you believe it? and should i be scared?

thanks guys. (link)
Here is a list of over 200 dates when the world was predicted to end. I think it is safe to say that the world has a good track record of ignoring such dates. Check the entries for 1666, 1998, and 2000.

Hi. I'm Kaylee and I'm just turned 18.

My problem is my Mom, Emmy, who posts my pictures all over the internet. Mom cybers with men from all over the world. Its sort of her hobby and she meets some of them too. But she has started posting pictures of me and my sister and they have fallen into the wrong hands. People are seeing me in my new black dress and making comments.

If I tell Mom not to post my pics she tells me to mind my own business because these people are her friends. But I dont like them.

What would YOU do to stop Mom posting your pics in your new black dress. If you had one. A dress, not a Mom? (link)
Calling social services might be a good start.

My jaw makes a dull click sound every time I yawn. Is this just going to go away after a while, or should I be more concerned and go to the doctors? (link)
The 'cracking' is a fleshy bit of some sort (muscle or tendon or somesuch) rubbing over a bit of bone near the jaw joint. Over time it can wear things away and procuce some quantity of unpleasant results.

It's probably not be significant enough to warrant treatment of any sort, but if it gets worse (starts happening when you're not yawning; talking or eating or whatever) I'd recommend talking to someone about it. An orthodontist is probably the best person to consult, but most dentists should be well-informed enough to make a recommendation.

Whats better as just a laptop to use for personal use for me, a mac or pc? (link)
In practicality, any modern OS will do anything a standard user could want. Fewer and fewer features, functions and programs are specific to any one OS.

Most people use windows; you yourself are probably more used to windows. If you want an OS that you know how to to use, get a PC. As a related note, I hate XP with a burning passion; Win2k isn't so bad, but it's still ugly (not to mentioned, all versions of windws are filled with gaping security holes). Vista is shaping up to look much better and be at least a little more secure, but isn't going to be out for at least another six months.

Mac OS is superior to windows*, and isn't hideously ugly. If you don't mind learning a new operating system, get a Mac. Responging to an earlier respondent, yes, OS X can get viruses. Guess how likely it is that you actually will though? The answer is not very likely, whereas I read somewhere the average windows pc has 16 malware programs on it. Also, if you have a spare windows install disk sitting around, you can set up new macs to run both that and X.

If you really care about security/don't mind learning a new operating system/like the challenge of having to fiddle a bit to make things work, get a PC without windows preinstalled (ask the manufacturer) and put Linux on it. It's superior to windows (at least from a conceptual and philosophical standpoint) and free, and does everything you need to do. Including running many windows programs, although that's usually difficult. I installed Linux on an old computer to see what it was like, and two days later decided to use it as my primary OS.

*The only thing windows does better for personal use is games, and only because games are made primarily for windows. Say this on a forum anywhere and you'll start a Mac vs PC flame war, but in actual fact the next version of Windows is supposed to implement features that OS X had /five years ago,/ and is an iterative development on the last version instead of a ground-up rewrite like OS X or a clean and effective OS like Linux.

what is it? is itt illegall? can you get caught? just tell me basically ab it.

iill give 5s (link)
Limewire is a tool which allows you to download files from other people who are using it.

A few points from the others' answers I need to correct:
Limewire is not illegal. Downloading copyright material (read: music) is illegal.
Getting limewire pro does not make downloading copyright content legal.
Limewire does not give you viruses. Doing stupid things gives you viruses.
Answering questions is not good. Answering questions correctly is good.

I've been using Limewire to download music for some time now. Is it illegal since it's free? (link)
Limewire is not illegal. Downloading copyright content with limewire is illegal. Downloading copyright content with the paid version of limewire is illegal.

ok well i deleted all of my songs on limewire and i had 800 songs do u no where they went or how i can get them back because i really need them but they are not in the recycleing bin help please i will rate 5s (link)
Limewire has never crashed my computer or 'given me spyware.' In my experience, it is stable and secure, and will only cause problems if you do something stupid.

That said, you're probably buggered. I know of one way, and it probably won't work.

Download disk investigator (http://www.diskcleaners.com/files/dskinv.exe). Install and run. Click the 'directories' button and browse to wherever the songs were. If you see files with red names, select them and click the 'undelete' button. A box will come up; if you have more than one drive, select the one that the songs aren't on. If you don't, don't. Click okay, and hopefully some of the songs will be recovered to the drive you selected.

If you don't see files with red names, I'm out of ideas. Also, if you know your drive is NTFS, don't bother because disk investigator doesn't support undeleting from that file system.

i'm wicca and i'm gonna have a baby and well i was wondering if it's wrong if i make my baby learn and follow through with the wicca relligon i really want her/him to belive in what i belive in and i think of it as like the christans and how they make them belive in the whole jesus christ bible stuff no offence to any people who belive in that relligon so is it wrong? plez help (link)
As I understand it, the general consensus among people with neo-pagan faiths is that the best idea is to expose their children to their religion, but not try to indoctrinate them into it; then allow them to decide for themselves at such time as they become interested in religion.

Why is everyone on this site a whiny 13 year old Emo girl wondering if the boy in their Geometry class likes them? And why are they so willing to follow the advice of complete strangers?
I rate 5's when I damn well feel like it. &hearts
(link)
Probably because whiny 13 year old emo kids need advice more than anyone else....

12-13 is about when people hit the puberty clusterfsck, which tends to be the point at which people are most uncertain of themselves. And so... advicenators. As for following the advice of strangers, hopefully very few people take advice given here as the word of god; this site should serve as a sounding board, and replies should be taken as suggestions.

I am distinctly not 13, female, or even emo, but I hang around because every so often a question pops up which I can answer - and in many cases, people give bad answers to such questions, which necessitates corrections. But then, I don't think I've ever asked a question.

If you stay around, if might help to think of browing the questions as an exercise in scanning/speedreading.

HI
I am musician setting up my own website to sell my songs, please can you explain in detail the process so people can hear my songs when they download them but cannot keep them unless they pay me - then i need to know how i release the songs to the person who paid.
i really need a total breakdown as i'm not very tech savvy.

thanks
pete

There is no way to stop somebody from keeping a song they downloaded. Companies have invested millions of dollars trying, and I - with little technical know-how - could easily circumvent any such protection.

Your best bet is to make only clips (30 seconds is normal, I think) available for download on your website. To sell people the full songs, you'd probably be best off using either some sort of commercial online shopping software, which I know nothing about, or going through a third party distributor; particularly, selling music through the iTunes store seems to have a fairly simple application and setup process. http://www.apple.com/itunes/musicmarketing/

whenever i turn on my computer and window loads a lot of system popups come and say something about this program cant work and check something about system32 and the installation diskette or whatever.. now i cant open itunes because it also says something about system32.. what can i do because i tried to reinstall itunes and it doesnt work.. any computer experts willing to help me?! (link)
'system32' can be thought of as another way of saying 'windows.' Probably your windows installation is damaged.

I don't know how to fix this without more specific information, but you might want to try starting from the installation CD (should happen if you put it in the drive then restart) and look for some sort of a repair option.

If you have a way to back up your files, like an external drive or something, I'd recommend putting everything you want to save on that before trying to repair. In fact, if you have one, I'd recommend formatting the C drive and reinstalling windows entirely.

Can you get arrested for using limewire? What is it EXACTLY & how do you use it? Thanks (link)
Sigh, horay for bad answers....

Okay. Limewire is a program, which has three primary functions: you can search for files, download files, and share files.

Searching for files returns a list of files other users are sharing, and you can then download the files from them. If you share a file, then when a user searches for that file they can download it from you.

If you download a file which is copyright (such as most music, movies, and books), both you and the person you downloaded it from have broken the law. Same if someone downloads a copyright file from you. You do not have to sell anything to anybody.

'Individuals who reproduce, distribute copies, or receive copies of works other than their own without the consent of the owners, may be [read: are] in violation of copyright infringement.'
(paraphrased for readability)

Okay, so I have Adobe Photoshop CS2, and I've had it for a while now. The problem is, recently, it refuses to start up. It keeps saying the scratch disks are full, etc etc, so it can't load the brushes and stuff.

First of all, what's a scratch disk anyways? How do I clean it out or whatever so it's NOT full? How can I get photoshop to work again?! -panic- (link)
A scratch disk is just a drive that Photoshop uses to store temporary files. The problem is that the drive is full; you need to either:

Clear out some space (try, like, deleting files), or
Specify a drive with empty space as your scratch disk

To specify scratch disks, go to file->preferences->plug-ins and scratch disks (this part might be slightly different depending on your version). Once you're there, select a different drive as your first scratch disk, or set the different drive as your second scratch disk.

Hi, everytime I open Windows Media and try to play one of my songs, it says a license is acquired. What does this mean/how can I fix it? Becuase I used to be able to play any song, now it gives me this message. Thanks. :] (link)
Download Switch (http://www.nch.com.au/switch/) and convert them to mp3. As an added bonus, you can then play them with a program that doesn't suck.

In case you use p2p, I'd like to warn you *never* to download windows media files that way. The license 'feature' is a significant vector for viruises.

How can I change a WAV file that I recorded on my mp3 player to an MP3 file when I put it on the computer? (link)
Probably the easiest way would be to use iTunes. Add the .wav file to itunes' playlist, right-click on it, and select 'convert to mp3.'

i REALLY don't get this. there are [a lot of] people out there who cut, and say it's addicting. but doesn't it HURT? why would you want to do something again that hurt you? i heard that "it takes away the hurt from the inside" but i still don't get why people do it. it kina bothers me.. 13/f in case it matters. (link)
Cutting is stress relief. It is fast, easy, and highly effective.

It's not necessarily addicting, but it can be. Typically, people who cut don't have other, "more healthy" coping mechanisms. If they have a persistent problem which leads them to cut on a daily basis, they can easily become dependent on the stress relief, and 'need' to cut in the same way a smoker 'needs' a cigarette when in a stressful situation. I cut, but only occasionally; I'm not addicted.

It is painful, usually. Two thirds of self-injurers say that they experience moderate to severe pain, and the other third say they experience little or no pain. Typically, the ones that don't feel pain cite acute emotional distress as the reason.

Note that cutting yourself is very different than being cut accidentally. If you do it yourself, your perception of the cut is much different; you don't think of it the same way as people do when they hear about somebody else cutting. Also, at least for me, it hurts a lot less. A razor makes a very clean cut; unless it's deep (say, a third of an inch), once I'm finished with the actual cutting I can hardly feel it.

Personally, I can't think of anything wrong with it. It is considered a deviant act, but it hasn't affected me negatively in any way. It does relieve stress, the pain is minor, and I don't mind the scarring. Plus there's all sorts of perhiferal benefits, like lower blood pressure.

If it's life threatenig, or expensive, or if somebody is addicted, then I would consider it a problem. For me though, it's been nothing but a positive experience. I'm not trying to advocate it here, just present a different perspective. There are more useful ways to deal with stress which are also effective.
