Limewire is a tool which allows you to download files from other people who are using it.
A few points from the others' answers I need to correct:
Limewire is not illegal. Downloading copyright material (read: music) is illegal.
Getting limewire pro does not make downloading copyright content legal.
Limewire does not give you viruses. Doing stupid things gives you viruses.
Answering questions is not good. Answering questions correctly is good.

Limewire is a P2P program used to download music. The program itself is perfectly legal, but downloading copyrighted material from it is not. Unfortunately, pretty much everything is copyrighted. Yes, you can get caught. DO NOT GET LIMEWIRE. It will give you spyware and viruses. I learned this the hard way. You're gonna have to buy your music, and that's just the way it is.

Limewire is something you can download music on & yes you can get caught and its illegall but honestly I don`t think its possible.Most of my friends have it and had it forever and haven`t got caught or had any problems it`s really good.

lime wire pro. the one you have to pay for is legal. lime wire. the one you can get for free is illegal. our computer guy made us un-install it bacause he thretened to report us for having it. it is basically stealing songs. best of luck =]

i dont think anyone really knows if its illegal or not but i dont think it is unless you download specific things, and yes you can get caught and fined for a lotttt of money but i use it all the time and im never caught so just make sure your safe :)!

limewire itself isn't illegal. it's supposed to be used for files and such. but in the terms of service, it says specifically to not use it for downloading movies, music, etc. illegally. and if you get caughtit would be very bad. but it's not likely that you will get caught.

Limewire is not illegal. It is a file sharing program. File sharing is only illegal if you infringe on a copyright law.
Limewire is like a tool. Its only illegal if you use it in an illegal way (such as downloading music or videos that are copyrighted). Its no different than using a power drill to crack open a safe. There is nothing illegal about the power drill, only the way it was used in that instance.
As for getting caught, it is possible but not very likely. The highest risk groups are those that share files. If you download but dont share, it is less likely that you will be caught.
