Question Posted Thursday April 13 2006, 3:27 am
HI
I am musician setting up my own website to sell my songs, please can you explain in detail the process so people can hear my songs when they download them but cannot keep them unless they pay me - then i need to know how i release the songs to the person who paid.
i really need a total breakdown as i'm not very tech savvy.
Additional info, added Thursday April 13 2006, 10:40 am: there must be a way to lock mp3 songs as every other company does so - please can someone help?
thanks guys. Want to answer more questions in the Technology category? Maybe give some free advice about: Internet & Web Design? Asc answered Thursday April 13 2006, 10:04 am: There is no way to stop somebody from keeping a song they downloaded. Companies have invested millions of dollars trying, and I - with little technical know-how - could easily circumvent any such protection.
Your best bet is to make only clips (30 seconds is normal, I think) available for download on your website. To sell people the full songs, you'd probably be best off using either some sort of commercial online shopping software, which I know nothing about, or going through a third party distributor; particularly, selling music through the iTunes store seems to have a fairly simple application and setup process.
