How can I forget about this disorder I am afraid I am going to get?
Question Posted Tuesday October 15 2013, 11:15 pm
I'm 14, and a girl. So last year I came on this website and I was looking at the "Recent Popular Questions" and I saw a question asking "do I have this disorder?" Me, being nosy as I am clicked on it and it said the symptoms of depersonilization disorder which I only have one( feeling like life is a dream)which is normal but I read if u think too much about it u eventually believe you have it. My grandmother and I have touched on this subject and she got me a counselor. I'm really shy so I don't want to go to a counselor but anyways, I've had this disorder on my mind for the past 10 months and I've been really worried I'm going to get it because it doesn't sound like fun to have at all. I want to live my life, not worry my life away and btw I have ocd(which really sucks) and I have gone some days without worrying about this..I'm just really scared I'm going to get it, how can I forget about tht disorder?? Help is much appreciated(:

Secondly you say tat you only have one symptom of this disorder and trust me that it doesn't mean anything. If you are worried that you might have it then simply go to the doctor and he/she will either confirm it or reject it. If the doctor confirms it then you can start worrying but now when nothing is obvious you should be enjoying life like you said.
And lastly don't believe everything you read especially things from dodgy websites. They're never true-mostly lies designed to make people worry. [ Natalka16's advice column | Ask Natalka16 A Question ]

You can't get a disorder just because you think about it, that's not how it works. It's just a trick that messes with your head.
As for forgetting about it, educate yourself more on the subject. You need to learn more about it because you're going to be one of the people who believe everything you hear. You don't want that because it'll do what it's doing to you right now.
Also, seeing a counselor would be good for you. I'm sure your counselor will have some good advice for you for your situation. They're more educated in these subjects and they are there to help you. [ lightoftruth's advice column | Ask lightoftruth A Question ]

You only have one symptom. That's not enough to have it or get it. You're only 14. If you don't walk around feeling like life is a dream at this age, then there is something wrong with you. Listen, I did the same thing when I was your age and it threw me into a psychward twice before I was 20. You think OCD sucks now, wait until you lose all control of everything in a hospital. Then OCD sucks. Don't psych yourself out by thinking you'll get this disorder. The more you dwell on it, the more symptoms you think you'll have, and then before you know it, people will think you're crazy. Don't worry about it. Enjoy your life while you're young cuz things could be a lot worse for you and they aren't. [ laynemayhem's advice column | Ask laynemayhem A Question ]
