It depends on who you are sitting for. Most people require you to have CPR classes.
Personally if I had children I would not hire a babysitter under the age of 21 and they would need a CPR certificate as well as a background check. ]
It depends really on the age of the children you are babysitting. The younger they are, the more training you should probably have. You need to be emotionally, mentally and physically capable in order to care for another human being. I'd say the most appropriate age to start would be 13 years old. In Canada, it helps a lot if you have a background police check to verify you have no criminal history, references and First Aid & CPR training. If you are younger, having experience and and a few references under your belt should be perfectly fine. Also, try taking a small course if it is your first time babysitting! ]
