Hi! I'm a 13 year old girl and I'm getting my ears pierced for my 14th birthday which is in a month. I don't have any other piercings or tattoos or anything like that and I'm just getting the regular ear lobe piercing on both ears, and I don't ever plan to get another piercing.
My whole family supports me and they think it's a great birthday thing, my Mum suggested bringing Panadol or something just in case I get a headache? I'm most likely getting it done at my local chemist or doctors office, so they will be done by a highly trained professional.
Is there anything very important I should know? Is there anything I should take with me?

It`s been in the same spot, where you got them, and this isn`t really important, but whatever. Anyways, it doesn`t hurt that bad. [ KeewiSweeti's advice column | Ask KeewiSweeti A Question ]

Still however, you should take care of it nonetheless. The most important thing is to keep it clean. A simple solution is using salt and water. One of the easiest thing do to is get a gallon jug of water and mix 3 teaspoons of non-iodized salt (NOT iodized). This mixture is gentle enough for piercings. Then you can take a bit of the water, heat it up and sock cotton balls in the water and gently press on each side of your ear for 5-10 min once or twice a day. Believe me this is important. At one point I got busy and didn't clean for a few days and got a very small infection, but it cleared up as soon as i started cleaning. Another important thing is to not take the earring out if you suspect an infection because the skin will close up leaving the infection in your body when you want it to leave. But it's not likely to get one if you do continue cleaning.
I also want to add that once you are healing your jewelry may not move as freely as it once did but you SHOULD NOT force it. Just continue cleaning. Also, it may seem healed, but remember that the tissue heals from the outside in.
The place I went to also suggested getting a clean pillow sham and placing it over your pillow when you sleep. Then flipping it over the next night to make sure you sleep on a clean surface.

Many people (myself included) have sensitive earlobes, so this will minimize risk of irritation. Also after the procedure, make sure to disinfect the area with an antiseptic or rubbing alcohol to help prevent infection. If your earlobes become infected, you should take out the earrings and apply antiseptic, and see a doctor if needed. The risk of infection is low when you properly care for the earlobes, but it's best to seek help right away if you have signs of infection such as pain, soreness, redness and/or puss. Its just part of the experience. Just sit there until you feel ok then stand up slowly just incase you start getting dizzy again. There really isn't anything to worry about. It doesn't really sting too bad and heals fairly quickly. Normally after 2 weeks you can change the earrings and after a month they are fully healed. Warning. Piercings can be addicting. Once you break that seal you are more susceptible to getting more. But that's not always bad. If it becomes something you like then that is just something that makes you , you. As for care, do not used straight peroxide. Piercing places normally give you a bottle of piercing cleaner. They do this because it is watered down peroxide. You can however make your own. 1 part water 2parts peroxide mix. Peroxide eats dead flesh. That is bad. You need that dead skin in order to heal. You are actually not supposed to use peroxide on open wounds past the initial injury. It cleans the first time. Any use after actually harms your skin and causes scarring.
ALSO
You should twist the piercing every couple hours to keep it from healing to the metal and irritating you. Hypoallergenic body jewelry is always good. The healthiest is bone, wood, and silicone. Never wear anything plated. Its coating wears off and can harm the skin. [ MoRuthless's advice column | Ask MoRuthless A Question ]
