Will my gym teacher get in trouble if someone reports her for this comment?
Question Posted Friday February 1 2013, 11:11 pm
so I have this gym teacher in high school who is young, (younger than 30 I think) really pretty and good looking and red headed (I love red heads) and she teaches gym and Health and so we are doing the swimming unit and while in the pool she was walking around and she then said to me and some of my friends later that she likes the swimming unit the most because she likes to look at all the boys without their shirts on in the water and it gives her lots to look at. I honestly have zero problem with what she said, but if some kid who was around me heard it decides to go and cry to someone about it, will she get in trouble?

But to answer your question, yes she would get in a lot of trouble only because teachers aren't supposed to say those kinds of things to their students or minors in general.

All it would take is someone to go home and make a passing comment about this to a parent who views on the subject of sex and teachers are more puritan in nature to have a compliant filed. Would the teacher get fired? I can't say, for the tolerance level on this subject is about zero.
For my part I do not see where the teachers comment was that out of line. A hard body is a hard body. She may be a teacher but she is also human and she has been human and female longer than she has been a teacher. As my wife told me when we married I could look at the menu all I wanted; I just couldn't reorder. In my eyes all your teacher did was admit she liked looking at a bare chested menu. I do not see any foul being committed. Then again I do not sit on the Board of Education where you live.
You know where you live and what the feelings are of the community on this type of subject. So you can judge better than I can if a big deal will be made of this by anyone.

I can see how overhearing it may make someone feel slightly uncomfortable (I wouldn't want to hear that the teacher was checking out people in my class). BUT even if she was reported, which I highly doubt, likely nothing will happen because;
1. The kids she was actually talking to didn't complain, and
2. anyone overhearing it could've easily heard it out of context, so their testimony isn't very valid.
If she was reported, I think that at worst she may get a stern lecture on behaving appropriately in the classroom. She's young so she doesn't have too much experience teaching yet.

She should know better. Definitely not responsible. While it may not have bothered you it's a remark that a teacher or someone in position of authority over a minor shouldn't make.
Will she get in trouble? That depends on how her boss views the comment and how much pressure a parent would put on them to do something. She likely would be warned (which she should) about her conduct and monitored but fired? Probably not unless this kind of thing happens consistently and others have issues there.
While you think this nothing and people are whining or crying if they think otherwise it is a serious thing as teachers should not be making these kind of remarks to and about students that are suggestive and or even joking and are trained not to do so. It's about being professional too which let's face it she wasn't.
