Do i need to remove my tonsils

Question Posted Saturday December 29 2012, 5:16 am

I have a bad sore throat it hurts every time I sallow. Also I get a sharp pain in my ears. I have no fever or any other symptoms. I have taken some medicine to see if it will go away but it doesn't. Do I need to have my tosils removed?

You need to see a doctor if you haven't already. If you have step throat you will have to take an antibiotic to make it go away.

I doubt they will remove your tonsils unless
your sore throat becomes chronic. I had mine removed as a child because of chronic ear aches.
Now, they just don't remove them like they used to.
They consider it if you have had several problems in a short period of time only.

Feel better soon.

This is something only a doctor could give definitive answers to. What you should do is book an appointment while still sick and have them see inside your throat to make a call.

When I was a youngster persistent sore throats were very often dealt with by removing the tonsils. In the UK at any rate it's fallen out of favour a lot since then and it's a much more rare operation now. The ears, nose and throat are closely linked biologically, and ears which hurt when swallowing is a common enough combination. Definitely a case of seeing the doctor. Modern antibiotics are fast and effective. I feel he'll only refer you to hospital for the removal of your tonsils if or when it becomes absolutely necessary. If it does come to that, it's not a high-risk op...so don't worry. It might even be and 'abnormal swallow' thing, caused by stress which is rather common in our modern world sadly, not any sort of infection at all. Treated by destressing, cutting down on coffee or those caf laden energy drinks for a start, which don't help. So tell him or her all the facts, not just a description of the pain if that aplies.

No idea if you'll have to get them removed. Go and speak with your doctor and explain to him/her the discomforts. For all you know, it could just be strep throat. No one can tell you if they have to be removed or not other than your physician.
