Question Posted Wednesday September 26 2012, 11:28 pm
I'm a 14 year old freshman that just started high school. I have a crush that I really liked since the beginning of this school year but now he has a girlfriend. I need help getting over this depressing state that I am having right now. Please give me some advice to feel better, I would really appreciate it.

My first suggestion: Find a new crush. Keep your eyes open for guys that grab your attention. A distraction is one of the best methods of dealing with a broken heart. Along with the distraction concept, spend A LOT of time with friends. Don't spend time by yourself; this makes it easy to get too deep inside your head, think too much, and wind up crying in your pillow until you pass out from exhaustion. (I speak from experience)
It hurts a lot, but time heals all wounds. I know that's the biggest cliche out there, but its true! It sucks waiting for time to heal you, but hey! A watched pot doesn't boil. (Another cliche, I'm sorry)
My next suggestion is this; watch sad movies. Get all the tears out of your system. Beauty and The Beast became my "anti-depressant". Chocolate is a lovely thing, as well. It releases happy juices in your brain that are similar to those feelings of being in love :) And as weird as it sounds, an induced crying spell actually does help, a little bit.
In these kinds of times, your girls (or guys, whoever you hang with) are the best band aids out there. Metaphorically speaking, of course.
I do realize that all of this is easier said than done, but you have to TRY before you decide it won't work. In the meantime, ignore dude and his girlfriend. Don't talk to him. If he talks to you, tell him you're late for class or something. The less time you spend around him, the better.
I hope you feel better soon, we've all been here before. If you need anything, feel free to message me :) Take care. [ laynemayhem's advice column | Ask laynemayhem A Question ]
