I need a really good waterproof (drugstore) mascara. I don't have a whole lot of money to be buying a bunch so I've been going off reviews, but that hasn't helped all that much. My main concern is staying power, as most mascaras and eyeliners tend to smudge on me throughout the day, even those that I've tried that are "waterproof" (though to be fair I've only tried 3). Of course, as far as mascaras go, I also don't want something clumpy, messy, or too dry. Any suggestions?
Disconnected answered Thursday July 12 2012, 7:23 am: I can say that from my experience - and I've been through COUNTLESS mascaras, I think I currently have about 7 of them which I use regularly, the best waterproof ones - and by best I mean that I can take a shower, and if I don't rub my eyes, the mascara will still be in place, and perhaps a minimal smudge below the eyes..
But this is after a shower.
So, the ones I would recommend are
L'Oreal Lash Architect Carbon Gloss - Waterproof False Lash Effect. [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
This one is a little clumpier but gives your eyelashes a really nice look if you want a more dramatic effect on the lashes :) It's not too much though.
It is sold in almost any drugstore, as it is L'Oreal, I paid about 12 euros for it, but as the Amazon link shows, it is about 12 dollars in the US.
The second I can suggest is Maybelline Colossal Volum' Express Waterproof.
This mascara has been very well rated for years now, and it is always in my handbag, no matter what.
It is about the same price as the L'Oreal, but it is very smooth, stays on perfectly and is very natural looking. You will really have to pile it on if you want thick and unnatural doll-looking lashes.
If you use this and an eyelash curler, you will have stunning lashes that look quite natural and full and it will also stay put endlessly - unless you rub your eyes all day...
teenhelper2 answered Thursday July 12 2012, 6:30 am: I hear you for sure. For mascaras, waterproof variety removal is really harsh on your lashes and you'll end up with a lot LESS lashes than you started with.
So, what's the solution?
Find a favorite NORMAL mascara that you really like--I like Illegal Length and Revlon--and put that on first. You may be saying "What the heck is this crazy 14-year-old talking about? She doesn't know a danged thing!" but just trust me on this.
After you've got that on, you'll need waterproof mascara. Finding this can be kind of tricky--I usually go with guess, test, and revise--but to cut to the chase, I've seen some really good results from Covergirl and Falsies. Layer it ON TOP of the normal mascara after it's dried, and not too thickly, or it will clump. This eliminates the issue with removal and also adds volume and resilience.
From my experience, waterproof eyeliner is just as good as regular, and pretty consistent throughout all the brands I've tried, so I can't think of one specifically.
If all else fails, pick up some blotting tissues and soak up the oil that's accumulated around your eyes when you use the restroom throughout the day. Keep some waterproof mascara with you to reapply, and DON'T TOUCH YOUR EYES!!!!
NOT ONLY will this smudge your eye makeup and tear your eyelashes, it will ALSO cause collagen deterioration around the eye area, especially if you tug on your skin. If you don't know what that means, think about the bags under your grandma's eyes on you. Then see if you want to touch your eyes again.
