I want to learn how to jump horses but I don't know which is the best jumping horse?
I have seen horses jumping on T.V. and at the local rodeo, and I don't want to sound ignorant, but except for the color and how tall they are, they all look the same to me! :-(
I know NOTHING about horse breeds or what the best breed of horse for jumping might be, so can any of you point me in the right direction and tell me what I need to know?
Do any of you own any of these, or know of a special place that has jumping horses for sale?
As for breeds, the warmbloods like Swedish Warmblood and Dutch Warmblood are commonly used in the Olympics. Also, my favorite are the Hanoverians. This breed took over 300 years to perfect. Meaning that they are !very! good for any english sport mostly. The Holstiener has a strong personality but they are very athletic looking and have a good build for jumping.
A harder breed to get hold of, but is very good for jumping, are the Olderburgers. They are German and have a large history. My all time favorite breed is the American Saddlebred, they have nice long legs that can easily jump and they are beautiful. Thuroughbreds and Irish Sport Horses are wonderful as well. Irish Sport Horses are very commonly used for hard equestrian sports. There are more but these are among the best choices.
On Horseclicks.com there are many great horses for sale. You can personalize your seach so that you find horses near you that jump.
To narrow down the list of breeds that I gave you, I will tell you what breeds are probably the top three. Which are Thoroughbreds because of thier long, powerful legs. They also are known to have a stronger mentality and courage than other breeds. But if you are a beginner, they may be a little harder to handle.
The next breed would be one I haven't listed yet, the Arabian. This is my second favorite breed. They also can be hard to handle for a beginner but they are beautiful and have long legs made for running and jumping.
The last top breed would be another I haven't listed, the Trakkener. This breed isn't a popular but they have incredible endurance and have thoroughbred qualities. They are much easier to handle and make great companions.
babymoby answered Wednesday February 22 2012, 11:36 pm: Each horse is different like it's age, color, kind, name, strengh, weakness, smartness or any of those charicteristics as maybe get into this farther and go to a place where they race horses and teach you to ride them then after you can ride a horse adopt one if you like it enough. Do some research on horses like what kinds are most active, what they eat, how they react.Hope you get the horse :) [ babymoby's advice column | Ask babymoby A Question ]
