Hey Everybody, Im 17 and I just had the IUD Mirena inserted two days ago, and that same night I had sex because I thought it would become effective immediately. Then I soon heard that it becomes effective in seven days. Is this true?
This is definitely a question for your OB/GYN, though. You shouldn't have to make an appointment to get such a simple question answered; just call and leave a message for the doctor to call you back. [ Xenolan's advice column | Ask Xenolan A Question ]

Many oral birth control pills say to wait for 7 days, but honestly, I think everyone says something different. My birth control pills say to wait seven days, but my friend's old doctor said to wait a month. I'm really not sure about an IUD though.
Anyway, typically that's something your OB/GYN should go over with you, or you should've researched/called him/her to get an official answer.
There can be no assumptions in the world of intercourse. You should alwaysalwaysALWAYS verify any questions with your doctor before you do something you don't have a professional answer to. Next time (and you may still want to call your doctor at this point), any questions need to be asked to a professional gynecologist because they'll have the most effective answer for you.
