I just got done with 8th grade, and it's summer. I decided to join the marching band. It is a very good marching band, so my parents had to pay a lot for me to go in it, and it goes from 1-8 pm every Wednesday, plus practicing on my own for like an hour a day. The point is that I can't get out of it. I think it's cool, and think i enjoy it, but their is always that constant reminder that I have too wake up early on Wednesday to play my instrument and march. I feel like It's ruining my summer even though it's pretty fun. What helps you when you are feeling like your in such a tight situation?
SomeoneSpecial answered Sunday July 10 2011, 2:24 pm: Alright, I am going to be a senior in high school and I, too, am in my school's marching band. I have got to tell you, our practices are grueling. 5 pm to 9 pm every Wednesday in July, 8 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon, every single day in August, outside in the heat, with our conductor telling us that we are terrible musicians and he will be willing to pull us out of every competition because he's disgraced and every Tuesday and Thursday during the school year from 3 pm to 5 pm. I hate the practices but to let you in on my secret, since this is your first year in the big band, the competitions and football games are incredibly fun. That's what gets me through the practices, knowing that they are paying off to get me to experience something more fun in the long run. Plus the fact that you make A LOT of new friends. I've been in the marching band for 7 years and in the High School marching band for 3. Every year I've been in the High School marching band, we all got so close, we didn't want the season to end. One last thing you can look forward to, the Championships. The feeling of exhilaration when you walk onto the field in front of 20 different school's family and friends is something you will never forget.
