Should I change for them?

Question Posted Saturday July 2 2011, 3:23 pm

I'm 15 right now and I'm really into the Emo look...I love screamo bands and i like to wear black a lot I also like to put a lot of dark makeup on my face not to much but enough. But my parents and my friends hate it..Should I change? I really enjoy it and I'm happy with how it looks, but my parents want me to change. and none of my friends are into that kinda stuff. What should I do? or How could I help my parent change there mind?

what i would say to do is to talk to your parents. let them know why you want to wear these clothes and makeup. but dont yell at them. it wont work. but dont change yourself for anyone. sometimes other peoples opinions dont matter.

You should go to them and explain to the why you enjoy it and why you do it... your parents are probably worried that you are feeling like you are dressing (dark and depressed) and they want you to be a happy person so maybe they are just getting the wrong idea try communicating with them no yelling or fighting just calm talking dont get upset if they have questions or comments that you dont agree with just talk about it.... good luck

Dont change who you are for anyone. Do what you love. Youll find friends with the same interests as you. Also your parents won't always agree with what you do but nothing can be done about that. As long as you're not harming yourself or other it's all good:)

First you should explore why you like these things. After you do that have a heart to heart talk with your parents and let them know what you have discovered about yourself. You deserve to be able to express yourself, that is part of how we grow. Moderation is the key. Now if you're into these things to irritate your parents you know that's not cool. Otherwise do you and ask your parents to respect your choice.

Be yourself

As long as you are no harm to yourself or others, Then it should be fine. You are expressing yourself and you are wearing whatever makes you feel comfortable. However, It is a tricky situation towards your friends and family.....Don't over do the emo look. You want to be properly dressed and age appropriate. I don't mind emo/goths but at the same time there is a such thing as going too far, It's not Halloween and personally I don't find Marilyn Manson to be very attractive as it is. Again, It's fine just over do it and get all heavily into the makeup. If you like the way you look and dress that's fine just explain to your family and friends that you feel comfortable dressing the way you do. Nobody should change who they are but try not to creep people out either.
