Question Posted Wednesday June 29 2011, 10:52 pm

Is there anyway to make your voice sound better when your singing? I'm a 13 year old girl and I'm not the best singer but I'm deft not the worst. I just need help and advice. Thanks! :)

Make sure to have proper breath support and enough air to back up your notes. Breathe from your diaphragm which is the lower part of your stomach. Posture is very important because if you don't sit up straight then you cannot get proper breath support. Keep your mouth open when pronouncing vowels especially "e". This may feel funny at first but it does make for a more mature sound. Diction is very important too. Make sure the audience can understand what you are saying. Practice these things for a more mature, full sound. Hope this helped!

When you breath in make sure your stomach is filled with the air and not your chest. You should be able to see either your chest moving upward or your stomach pushing outward. Also breath/sing from your throat and not your head or nose. You shouldn't feel any pressure from your head at all. Don't sing outdoors or in the cold. Drink very warm water almost hot or any warm drink. Also don't sing first thing in the moring. Late at night is actually the best time to sing assuming you aren't too tired. Never sing while sick because that will ruin your vocal chords.

Practice, practice, practice! That is the only way to get good. Also, try to sing daily. It will exercise your vocal chords and it will be easier for you to warm them up, use them longer, and it should also help with trying to expand your range. There is also the choice in vocal lessons or school classes if you attend a school that offers chorus classes. Listen to a lot of the kinds of music that you would like to sing, and sing along with it. I hope this helps!

Try going to singing classes, or joining chorus when school starts up again.... practice and you will do good
