GemmalGD answered Monday June 6 2011, 8:18 am: If you are on the birth control then you can have sex, however it is then up to you to decide to have your partner wear a condom to protect you from STI's or to give you extra protection.
The pill is 99% effective against pregnancy, however this doesn't mean that you shouldn't be a bit cautious, as people have became pregnant from the pill, as it is easy to not use properly e.g. missing a pill or vomiting/having diarrhea then having sex.
If you or your partner can not use a condom (if you are allergic to latex) then I would personally say that you will be safe while on the birth control IF you use it properly every day. If you are still not sure then go to your doctor and let them explain more to you about how protected you will be. [ GemmalGD's advice column | Ask GemmalGD A Question ]
AskSinz answered Saturday May 28 2011, 9:14 am: Yes you can have sex but you are never completely safe. If you are planning on having sex with someone who you do not really want a child with or aren't married to etc. then it would be best to make this person wear a condom to help with being safe. He may not like wearing one but it's the best option for trying to maximise your safety along with the birth control so that when he ejaculates his semen isn't inside you.
Xui answered Saturday May 28 2011, 1:57 am: There is no such thing as "completely" safe, If you want to avoid pregnancy use both birth control and a condom as this is probably the best and smartest way to prevent pregnancy. As long as you take your birth control faithfully and use a condom you have a slim chance. However, Always remember there is ALWAYS a chance of pregnancy and nothing is ever 100% safe. amygwen answered Saturday May 28 2011, 12:10 am: Yes you can have sex. Personally though, I would always use a back-up form of contraception, like a condom as well. I have worked and befriended a lot of younger/teenage mothers and most if not all of them were on the birth control pill but still had unprotected sex. Birth control pills are usually 99% effective, but you never know! If you're taking multiple medications, miss a pill, etc.. there's a couple of reasons of how you could end up pregnant. Definitely use a back-up, it's better to be safe than sorry! [ amygwen's advice column | Ask amygwen A Question ]
