getting out red tone in hair

Question Posted Friday May 20 2011, 11:20 pm

About 2 years ago I was really stupid and put a dark cherry hair dye over my brunette hair. I thought it was cool to have a dark auburn brown hair. basically a dark brown with a tint of red. It kinda looked good. I kept it for 2 years. Then recently I decided to go back to my natural color- which is a very light brown. I went to Aveda and it cost me about 250 dollars. Yeah i know what you're thinking.. why would you ever spend that much on hair?! But it was worth it because I love my natural color now. The only problem is that the hairdresser said my hair will still have some warm tones in it because of the red hair dye (which is very hard to get out of) She did the best she could. It is now a light brown with orangy/warm tones in it. It doesn't look bad.. but its not exactly my natural color either. My question is.. how do I get rid of the warm tones in it? so its just light brown. My hairdresser told me to come in a few times to get it toned down. I got it toned 2 times within the past month and half. Toning it really helps :) but the only problem is that it fades within 2 weeks and I really dont want to go back all the time to get it toned. Does anyone know how to get rid of the warm tones without having to go get it toned all the time??

Please dont say bleach because my hair is damaged enough and it doesn't need to get lighter.. it just needs the warm tones gone. Thank you!

The hairdresser just wants to keep selling you treatments. The best thing to do is to just let it grow out naturally. You could try doing the Sinead O'Connor thing and cut all your hair off and just start from scratch.

My way will take some time,. but is worth it. because your not putting chemicals and what not in your hair,. making it more damaged. Try just growing it out. That way it will be your natural color hair.

Hope this helps.
