am i considered short?

Question Posted Tuesday May 17 2011, 6:08 pm

Hi, i am a 17 year-old guy. And i am 5'7, a little higher than that actually, like five foot seven and a half. Am i short? I havent been called it lately, but i just feel like i am short since alot of people are taller than me. Should i be worried about this? Again, i am a 17 year-old guy.

You're definitely a little on the short side, but it is absolutely nothing to worry about. In fact as an 18 year old female, I prefer shorter guys. Since I'm only 5'1, I find it awkward dating super tall guys. Never worry about your height. You can't change it, and all girls prefer different heights on guys. Plus, you're only 17. Chances are you're still growing!

You're shorter than the average full grown man which is what, about 5'10"?

The problem is that the reference points as to the prospect of your future height are mixed.

Look at your parents. How tall is your dad? If he's short then you might be too, though I have to say that both my brother and I are taller than my dad. You can still grow. My brother went through a growth spurt when he was in his early 20's and is now taller than I am.

So it is really hard to say where you will ultimately end up. Don't worry about it, though. You are still going to be at least 3-4 inches taller than the average American woman.

It depends on several factors. Perhaps you should try this chart at [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

When I was your age I was about your height. When I turned 18 I had a growth spurt and another one at 19. I ended up being 6' 2" tall.

If you have concerns about your height and if this is going to be your final height check with your doctor. An x ray can tell if your growth plates have closed. If they are still somewhat open then there is a good chance you have not finished growing and just a late bloomer.

The average male is between 5'9-6'4

However, Everyone comes in different shapes and sizes nobody is exactly the same with makes the world and the people in it unique. Should you be worried? No, Not at all. It is not a bad thing to be a little shorter then other people.

I am 5'10, I dated someone who was 5'7 for 5 years and the difference in height never crossed my mind believe it or not. I didn't care, It didn't matter to me because I loved the person for who they were at the time. Height is not a big deal everyone is different and encase you were wondering I am not a male. Honestly, You are over looking it a person who truly loves you for you will pay no mind to how tall you are or what you like.
