I'm a computer science major and digital arts minor, looking to go into game design.
My mom keeps telling me that it's hard to get a job in computers since everyone's going for it. But programming comes so easy to me and I loved every part of designing basic games in AP Computer Science in High School. :\
AFriendsAdviceIsToShare answered Tuesday August 30 2011, 6:56 pm: Switch to pure digital design, For internet use. And posibliy a supporting topic is my advice. Forget Programming altogether and Game related art. For you this maybe a valid option: Go into work from Home on Internet related Jobs. Make sure you have a server, the P.C. where your website is located at the premises onsite at home and keep data Backups. Keep all critical data such as credit card numbers securely encripted. Get professional help to set it up and forget about University. Doing something that you are happy doing is best. Sometimes factors beyond our control can limit the choices. Better to chose correctly at the beginning. Don't aim too high. Sometimes what we are made to believe is a good thing is really an extremely bad thing. Doing something that you are happy doing is best. There is in the media many organised lies to make bad career choices seem good simply to only gain from a very few number who qualify and stil in my opion they failed choosing a bad option. You would be better off with some kind of science or engineering degree (electrical engineering is a good one). Biotech is hot.

It seems like you are, heck, you even love doing it. You should tell your mom what you think, and if she refuses to listen, then prove her that you are capable of getting good grades and a good job.
If you doubt that you can prove her all that, start slowly by asking for a suggestion as to what she's expecting out of you, in fact, ask ANYONE you know what you would do well in.
PS. Computer science major and digital arts are not common, people drop out of these often cause they found it boring for them. You are not one of them, go ahead and just do it. [ nakataboy's advice column | Ask nakataboy A Question ]
BLONDShorty answered Saturday April 30 2011, 5:02 pm: your not making a mistake. there really aren't that many computer science majors. you have to do what you like. if you are good at what you do, you will find a job. In any matter, as long as you have a degree in something, you are already a step of the game. you cannot replace your education. believe me. the best of luck. you will be fine!
