I'm old enough to be your grandfather and I have suffered from depression for many years.

Teenage depression is very common and easily treated. In the few sentences you have written you have verbalized two of the markers doctors use to identify depression. This does not mean you are suffering from depression. What it means is you need to be screened for depression.

Being screened for depression is easy and painless. Your high school guidance counselor may be able to screen you. Your family doctor can screen you or your town or county mental health clinic can screen you.

The number of people suffering from depression would surprise you. Depression is the most common undiagnosed ailment suffered today, especially in teenagers. Parents will commonly look at a teenager and say, "oh there going through a phase", or they are suffering the trials of Puberty" especially in girls. It has only been recently, with in the last decade or so that doctors have realized teenage depression as a common illness.

My advise: Tell your parents how you feel, especially the part about suicidal thoughts. Ask them to arrange a visit with your family doctor. Most likely your family doctor will do a preliminary screening and may even start you on some medication. Your doctor then may choose to refer you to a specialist such as a psychiatrist. No your not crazy; since depression is usually caused by an imbalance of an enzyme in the brain a psychiatrist is the best person to prescribe medication. You may also be asked to talk with a psychologist to help you find what is triggering the depression.

Given everything a teenager goes through today it is not, to my thinking, surprising that so many teenagers suffer from some form of depression. You have the chemical and physical changes your body is going through, the physical and emotional pressures brought on by theses changes. Then there are the social changes at home and school not the least of which are the higher expectations people place upon you.

There is a lot of pressure placed upon a teenager today that your parents and there parents before them did not have to suffer with. It is hard being a teenager today and depression is one of the results of this pressure.

Ask to see the family doctor. Don't be afraid to tell your parents why. With the help of qualified doctors you will get through this and be better able to handle life as it comes at you.

even tho you are at a young age, you can still become depressed. if you were taking any kind of medication when you started to feel this way stop taking it immediatly. your thoughts of harming your self could be from your depression or possibly things tht go on around your home. i think you should maybe go see a counselor or talk to your doctor. hope ya get better soon! xoxo, beaniebaby

Yes you could be depressed that could be a possiblity my advice for you is that you speak to
someone about how your feeling either your parents
or a therapist if you don't feel comfortable talking to a stranger then i'd say your parents is the best way to go you'll know your depressed if you don't feel like you normally do sit your parents down and tell them that you haven't been feeling like your normal self and you've been feeling sad lately and you think about things you shouldn't be yes you can be depressed at
only 15 you aren't alone everyone becomes depressed at some point in their lives no matter what age they are depression is apart of life as far as suicide is concerned it isn't worth it think about your parents loosing their child and how much it would hurt them if they lost you it isn't worth it to cause them pain they don't deserve that & others who care about you too they
don't deserve the pain either you need to tell
someone about how your feeling you'll feel better
afterwards you won't have everything bottled up inside & you'll have a clear mind it isn't good to
keep everything to yourself it's good to get it all out in the open so whoever you decide to talk
to can hear :)

Hey.
I was exactly like you not that long ago, i know right now it seems like a huge worry but it'll disappear before you know it. You're not that much younger than I am, so i know what you're feeling. When you're depressed you feel Hopeless, helpess, and you think that noone will understand you and you dont know exactly whats bothering you.
My advice to you is dont be hard on yourself when things don't go the way you planned, or the way you wanted and accept the fact that not everything is your fault. The best thing to do is, tell your best friend about it, they'll know you more than anyone else and they will understand. You seem to be upset because you feel there's noone you can tell these things too. But its surprising how much better you feel when you get it off your chest to someone you know and can trust. Dont encourage yourself to suicidal things, it's not worth it. Just think, whenever you're having a bad day, someone else is having a worse one. Keep yourself busy and very social, have will power and dont allow yourself to feel that way. After thunder and lightening, theres a shining rainbow.
