Question Posted Wednesday September 22 2010, 10:53 pm

for the past 2 1/2 weeks, i've been a total mess. especially at school, any little thing will set me off. i'll get really pissed off, yell at people, and today i hit my friend in the face and he cut his lip. i'm walking around just hating everything and everyone, wishing everything would just go away. i'd been eating a lot more than usual, but then today i wasn't hungry at all. not only am i mad, i'm sad. someone will say or do something that'll make me sad. i've been crying uncontrollably a lot. today during one class, i had to sniff back tears at least 5 times. i have no idea whats going on with me. nothing is wrong at my house. my grades are starting to suffer because of it. its like i'm either depressed or angry all the time. i'm mean to everyone and driving away all my friends and my boyfriend. but at the time when i'm pissing off someone, i'm trying to. i want them to leave. but then later i'll feel bad and hate myself.

i've been depressed before, but this is different. its a lot worse. i'm also thinking about suicide or running away. but, again, i have no idea where these moods or thoughts came from. nothing is wrong, but everything is wrong. can someone help?

This sounds entirely like chemical depression. I'd recommend visiting a psychiatrist and, if they think it's best, trying some medication.

I understand if you're opposed to visiting therapists or taking medication (I used to distrust both. Figured I'd deal with my issues on my own.) But in the case of chemical depression (if that's indeed what you have), prescription medication really is the best way to balance the serotonin (and other chemicals) in your brain.

I mean, it could be some other hormonal unbalance, but either way, I highly recommend seeking professional help. It's good that you're aware that despite nothing being wrong externally, there's still a problem that needs addressing.

Also, if you don't like the psychiatrist or medication type, try another one. There's bound to be a psychiatrist somewhere in your area you can stand, and different medications work better for different people.

It might take a little time, but don't give up. And hey, it might just be a phase that'll pass anyway. But it's still good to seek professional council just in case.

Well, this is exactly what had sometimes happened to me. I wanted to suicide at times. This is quite normal at teenage. Do the following-
1. Don't panic. Stay calm. It will make room for solutions to creep in.
2. Talk to the people whom you, in some way or the other, hurt. I know that you are the one most hurt, but talking to them will help you more than you can imagine.
3. You can always share these things with your parents. They will offer you help. But, if you don't want them to interfere, don't tell them.
4. Act before the situation gets worst. Meet your friend whom you hit on the face, say sorry, and tell her/him why you had been acting so strange, and that you really need her help.
5. DON'T THINK OF SUICIDING! According to me suicide is the worst thing one can do for Him/HERSELF. Your parents will regret. And on the top of all, your life is very very very important. Not only for you, for your parents, relatives, friends and all those who are connected to you, significantly or insignificantly.
6. Do yourself. Do that one thing which will make you happiest than ever! It will make you get out of that depression state very effectively.
Note - Work out these things seriously, see the magic and tell me about your experiences. I am sure you will get out of this trauma very soon.
Your sincere friend,
akshay
