It is hard to see the small things when you love someone, so do not blow up and be mad, just start to look for little things that seem to upset or out right anger your family about her...worse comes to worse, ask them what it is they do not care for about her.... Peeps answered Thursday July 29 2010, 2:10 am: They probably got a very bad impression about the girl.
It's like...you say..."She's a trashy woman."
Well, she might be if she has all of the tell-tale signs of a trashy woman. If you don't know the exact context of the conversation then they could be saying a multitude of things like she's a slut, cheater, dumb, etc.
If something:
Looks like a duck
Quacks like a duck
Walks like a duck
Acts like a duck
then it's probably a duck ;)
Using the "duck" reference is just how people say this sort of thing without sounding vulgar in front of others. You don't want to say, "Wow! His girlfriend is such a whore! Look at her!" so you say, "Well...if she looks like a duck...she probably is one!" Most people will pick up on what the person is saying then without them needing to say the choice words they are thinking of ;) [ Peeps's advice column | Ask Peeps A Question ]
amaried answered Wednesday July 28 2010, 8:16 pm: It's a figure of speech saying if someone acts like something, they probably are. So rhetorically, if someones acts stupid, they must be, etc. [ amaried's advice column | Ask amaried A Question ]
