This is gonna be extremely hard to explain how to do this. But a good way to help your hips turn out is to:
(This might work best on tile or wood.)
But get into a position where your on your hands & your knees.
Then get onto your elbows & let your knees go in opposite directions.
One will go to the left wall & the other to the right wall.
Keep your feet together.
You'll look kinda like your in a frog position I guess, lol.
It hurts like hell ,but it helps. & over time your mid-section should get closer to the ground.

Hope I helped.

Hello, when your coach says turn your hips out she means just that, although it can be hard to picture and conceptualize when you are trying to focus on so many other things like keeping your legs far apart..not too high and not too low and trying to get enough height in your jump. I had the same problem when I was on the dance team, and did not understand what that meant, but after dancing for awhile I finally understand. So here is how you learn to turn your hips out, sit down on the floor and spread your legs out as if you were about to stretch, you will notice that when your legs are out on each side of you that your knees are facing up, you want to try to move your kneesso that they are facing back as far as possible till you see the side of your knee and the underside of your leg. As you are using the muscles in your legs to move your knees backwards you will notice that you also have to move your hips slightly as well, this is what she means by turn your hips out. So when you are in the air you want your legs to be just as they are on the floor in the position that you are in with your knees facing backwards. If you stretch like this on a daily basis and practice moving your knee facing backwards you will learn how to do it in the air as well, once you are concsious of this positon while your are sitting and stretching you will be able to hit this exact postion in the air with alittle practice. Practice makes perfect after all. Make sure to stretch and do splits every day to maintain your flexibility since that is key in not only toe touches but cheerleading as a whole. In regards to getting your toe touch higher, once you dont have to worry about your flexibility and turning your hips out you can focus on your toe touches height. For the height of the toe touch you basically want to give yourself a steady, quick and sharp prep time. The key to a high jump is getting low and steady enough right before the jump becuase that is what pushes you upwards to give you the height. So the more steady and low you are the higher and overall better your toe touch will be. Once you keep practicing it will become second nature. When you have alot to think about in regards to a toe touch things can get a tad confusing but once you put everything into perspective and practice you will have your toe touches down in no time. I hope this helped, it can be difficult to describe a type of stretching for in a way that another person understands it, so here is a link to the type of straddle stretch I am referring to ([Link](Mouse over link to see full location)). If you would like me to clarifiy anything else, I would be happy to help, just send me another message:)..goodluck with everything

Heyy i've been on all-star squads and was on my middle and high school squad so I think I can help. Not trying to gloat but my jumps are very high and they are easy for me to do. When she says to turns your hips out she means to be almost doing a split in the air. If you know how to do a horizontal split that's great, if not practice and stretch so you can. (if you need advice on how to do it inbox me) This will Make your toe touch eaiser to hit.

As to getting your jumps higher:
Find weights, tie them to your ankles and do toe touches. I know this will be hard to get your toe touches as high as usual but this will work on your hight because your body naturaly wants to get as high as usual. :)
Also another way is to go to the ground and touch your hands to the ground, (like squating) and jump up as high as possible and put your hands an arms out like you're hitting a toe touch and go back to a 'squat' and do it again. Do thi about 20 times and it will build up your mussles in your leg so you can go higher when you are actually jumping. It should burn your quads. Do it again unroll it doesn't burn, do it everyday and it should really help!!! :) hope my advice helped you, if you need. Anything else feel free to inbox me!! :)
