Looking even further than the birth of the Catholic Religion, your research will show that most, if not all religions date back to at least the Babylonians.
I would not call enlightenment and freedom of your mind, body. and spirit as 'falling from religion'. It would see this moment as a liberating moment, your test of wisdom, strength and will power to pull yourself from the tyranny of religion.
Seek out the information and the truth will set you free.
It is the advice of this Doktor that you do not take anything at face value and refuse to blindly follow something you do not believe to be true.
messenger answered Wednesday May 5 2010, 12:52 pm: I remember feeling like this, alot. But Ive learned a few things...First, God isnt to blame for your pain and suffering...The people that are hurting you, are. God doesnt promise great things on Earth, a geat life, none of it...He promises that IF we accept his son Jesus Christ into our hearts we will enter into Heaven with him. Our time here is about growth and learning, loving people, and getting to know God... Your relationship with God is a personal one, and important. Catholic schools teach memorized prayers, and strict routines, but maybe try sitting down alone, and just have a heart to heart conversation with God. Tell him how you are feeling, tell him your doubts and your hurts, give them to Him...Not to a preacher in a little box, but to God. Ask him to give you a sense of peace, of guidance. Start with that, and then maybe open your bible, and look in Psalms...there are alot of verses that bring me comfort when I am going through challenges. Remember that through everything God is with you, loving you, and hold on tight to your faith. Satan attacks our weaknesses to draw us away from God. Be a warrior of Christ, put on the full armor of God.... [ messenger's advice column | Ask messenger A Question ]
sarline answered Wednesday April 14 2010, 7:40 pm: Hi Umm I am going to try and explain at my best.
First off God does things for a reason that no one can explain but if you have faith it will work out. you just have to believe in him which is what i think you are having problems with. You said you want to know how to start, well first off pick up a bible. ask God to help you, ask God to lead you, ask him to help you understand the things he does, ask him for guidance in your life and that you want to be led through the right part you want to be saved. I can't pressure you to believe in God. but i can help you understand why you need to. The decision is up to you. Of all the things that have happened to you, you have made it through and alive, that is God's works
HOPE I HELPED!
He is everywhere. He is omnipotent and omnipresent. just find a quiet place and pray and i gaurantee you, you will recieve and answer!
ADDING:
He is always there and he is everywhere. Just find a quiet place and just talk to him.
most people start with "God if you are there and i hope you are listen..." just pour everything out, and read your Bible as well. If you need help I am here [ sarline's advice column | Ask sarline A Question ]
Razhie answered Saturday April 10 2010, 2:49 pm: At 14 I started to slip away from religion. I realized that as much I adored my family, my teachers, and my religious leaders, that I simply and honestly didn't believe in God. I was never angry with God or my church for anything that happened or didn't happen. I just didn't believe in any of it. It took me a very long time after that to really come to terms with what that meant.
I remember very, very well how painful that was. I remember praying in tears that God would make me believe like I had when I was little girl. I remember reading philosophy and talking to teachers and religious leaders trying to make it make sense. I remember trying to make excuses for arguments that were silly, or for things they said that I knew couldn't be true.
I'm sorry that I can't help you, except to say that I remember that period in my life and that I came out of it stronger, more ethical, more honest and happier then I could ever have imagined at the time. I found peace, joy, love, respect and almost limitless goodness in a universe without God. I could give you lists of books to read, but in the end these books didn't convince me. Also, I don't want to convince anyone of anything that I sincerely do not believe is true.
Beliefs change and grow and evolve. Take a deep breath and let your brilliant little mind lead you were it will. Be inquisitive and open-minded and respectful and strong. In the end, there are so many paths to being a truly good person. If you focus on that, you'll get there, no matter what God you do or do not believe in. SarcasticGreetings answered Saturday April 10 2010, 10:30 am: In this time period, it's REALLY easy to lose your faith, what with all the crime ("why would God let this happen to me?") and, well, science disproving a lot of elements of the bible.
I'm a Roman Catholic, but I'm starting to lose my faith, too. Unlike you, though, I'm not trying to go back to religion, partially because of my cynical beliefs that most religions out there are just a form of social control, partially because I just DON'T like the way the Catholic church operates. For example, people who are divorced are completely shut out of the system and cannot receive communion because the church doesn't believe in divorce. Or how power-hungry the Catholic church is. Or how after each sermon (in my church, at least), they would list out all the church's expenses and ask us for money.
You don't HAVE to believe in God. I'm just saying.
It could be just the way the Catholic church does things. You stand, you kneel, you sit, you listen to long long speeches and you confess your sins to some guy behind a screen (this part, is, in my opinion, the most RETARDED aspect of this religion. But I'm not going to go into that).
You should check out other churches. Maybe other religions? I'm not saying you should become a Wiccan, but maybe there's a religion out there that encompasses what YOU believe a god should be better than the Catholic church does.
When I was a freshman in high school, I visited my friend's church. And DAMN. There was a youth group that occasionally put out performances, from skits to dances to recitals, all having to do with God. It was actually fun. And I'd bet my right leg that the youth group members (kids and teens) had a hell of a lot of fun putting them together, as well. It was pretty great; there was a sense of togetherness, a REAL sense of togetherness. It was entertaining, it was fun, very different from the routine Catholic church ceremonies.
After all, praising God can be very tedious and boring if going to church is just something you do because you HAVE to, and all you do is the same routine every Sunday. But if your church is different and holds performance nights and whatnot, it just may be something you enjoy going to. And if you enjoy it, you may actually get your faith back. rockerchick answered Saturday April 10 2010, 8:24 am: i know that i might not be very much help to you, but i atleast want to tell u that i feel the same. I have been a christian all my life, in the methodist church, but i recently stopped believing. i dont want to tell people because i'm quite involved with the church and all that. my boyfriend knows and he's a christian so i asked him to please explain to me what he believes, hoping that i can believe too. I want to believe and i wish i could be as sure as he is. I know there is a God... though i dont seem to know how to find him??
People tell me that God will heal you of your pain if you ask him to, and make you a stronger believer, overcoming the crap that happens to you.
Much luck to you, i hope you find God [ rockerchick's advice column | Ask rockerchick A Question ]
