age difference confused

Question Posted Friday April 2 2010, 5:29 pm

I am in desperate need of advice. I am a 17 year old girl and I'll be 18 in May. I really like this boy but he is 14 years old and will only be 15 in October. My mom just found out and she told me that it's up to me, but it'll be against the law when i turn 18, i could go to jail if something goes wrong and someone in his family wants to start trouble. Honestly, yes, the age gets to me sometimes, but he acts so much older even with his friends, but he is 14 and my brother is 12, it's weird when i think about it, but when im with him, its amazing, and he is so sweet to me and shares what he feels unlike other guys. I also wonder does he think im amazing, and sweet, and everything he says about me just because im older them him, is he infatuated by the age difference or does he really like me for me? I need to know what you think... is it worth it or should i go for this other guy who is older than me, but the thing is i can see the 14 year old a lot but i cant see the 20year much.HELP!

Well, it would really only be against the law for you to have sex with him. Are you willing to wait to have sex with him until he's 16? Otherwise, it would just be a little different.

But hey, tons of women date younger men. Once you guys hit your twenties (if it lasted that long) nobody would even comment on the difference. So don't put him out of the picture just based on age.

From the sounds of it, you like the younger guy more. If you feel like he's the one for you, go for it!

This is a taboo subject and it's hard to answer. When you are 18 it's going to be hard for some people to accept you dating a 14 year old. I've heard of stories where an 18 year old girl got charged with rape by having sex with her minor boyfriend even though it was consensual. She was at risk for jail time but was banned from seeing or talking to her boyfriend for a year. That risk is for the two of you to decide if it's worth it.

Were the other girls he dated older then him? If so, he might be attracted to older girls. But he could also genuinely like you, and the age difference seems huge now but my parents are seven years apart and it feels like nothing.

You could casually date him or not put a title on your relationship so people wouldn't talk. That will also give you time to see if he is really into you or just likes older girls. Take things slow and if this turns into a serious thing over time, he'll be older and things will be easier.

In this type of relationship, use your head over your heart.

Good luck,

-Abby

Ok well I don't want to say go with him cuz I realy don't want you to go to jail and then you can wait till he is older but then realy who want to wait that long right. So I would say your best beat will be with the 20year old. But if you realy like the 15yr then just dont kiss him and you know sex is a no no be very careful and you sould think about what you should do cuz you want to be on the safe side too and I know even though I'm grown my family will trip too so good luck and do what's best for YOU no one els and if you need more advice on anything I'm here bye friend.
