Your hair grows at the average rate; about a half inch per month.

It won't grow faster, but it will look much healthier, giving the illusion of growth.

There's really nothing you can do to make your hair grow faster.

This isn't true. It just makes you think your hair is growing. Hair is dead. It doesn't just think "Oh, she's cutting it every 2 months, time to grow faster."
It just feels/looks like it is becvause you are getting a haircut more often.

I don't think it makes your hair grow any faster.

I have bangs; I have to cut them EXTREMELY often or they'll get in my eyes. I cut the rest of my hair every couple of months or so. And my hair grows at the exact same pace as my bangs, even though I cut my bangs more often. (I also dye my hair, so I looked at the roots, where my natural color is. If my bangs did, in fact, grow faster, the section of natural hair color at my roots would be longer than the one at the rest of my hair)

They tell you to trim your hair often so it'll get rid of any split ends you may have.

You're supposed to trim off dry/dead ends every so often. It doesn't make a noticeable difference, really. It just helps keep your hair healthy and growing at a steady rate.
