Question Posted Tuesday February 2 2010, 3:56 pm

All these blank walls are bothering me in my room. What are some unique ways for a 14 year old to get them less boring??

My suggestion would be instead of painting your walls just one color, paint them two colors! Such as one or two strokes pink and then one or two strokes green, etc. I only used pink and green as an example, it could be used with any color, also, you could do tri-colored, as well!

At my old house, the attic was my bedroom. Luckily for me that meant I got to paint the walls whatever color I wanted. I chose lime green. The color is pretty harsh, but to keep them from looking to painfully bright, I sponge painted them instead. I painted my shelves hot pink. I liked them scheme a lot, and you would be surprised with how many cute color combinations you can come up with for your room.

If painting them a fun color is out of the question like it is in my new house, try finding a theme for your walls. Nothing to strict, because that gets boring. My walls are also white, but I like bright colors so I have 2 colorful Marilyn Monroe posters (a pink and multi-colored one), a yellow Happy Bunny poster, an Ed Hardy calendar with various other Ed Hardy decor, a cheerleading collage from high school, drawings I have done, pictures of my chihuahua, a dry-erase board, two Hollywood/TV Land 1000-piece puzzles I have done, and various other things here and there. I didn't want to be stuck with only one color or theme, so I have chosen something simple, like bright colors.

You can find cute posters online. My brother's bedroom has a Coca-Cola, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean theme. Those, Happy Bunny, Ed Hardy, I Love Lucy, are all great choices for posters and wall decor.

Another favorite of mine is string lights. I have some that are wrapped around my windows and are sound-sensitive. If music plays the lights move to the rythym of the music. It's pretty cool.

If you want further ideas, let me know in my inbox :)

If the walls are white, have your parents paint them a nice color for you. If you don't care to have them painted, rip out pages from magazines. Rip out pictures of your favorite bands, or of models from your favorite fashion magazine.
