I am studying abroad in China for college... I need any tips or suggestions for going to China.
Can I use my phone?
An adaptor/converter for electronics?
Certain colors to wear or not wear?
Is there a variety of american food to eat there?
Friendly?
Clean?
As previously mentioned, study their culture, language, and way of life. That's very important if you want to fit in. Buy books, research online, and study their history as well.
I am sure you can use your phone. China is a very advanced country, so any technology concerns you have shouldn't be an issue. Consider a long distance plan if you don't have one already. It shouldn't matter what colors you wear, and there will be plenty of American food there, I am sure.
As far as the atmosphere, (clean/dirty, friendly/mean) I am once again sure that it is the same as any other place you would go. Some people will be friendly, others will be mean. Some places will be clean, other places will be dirty. Just make sure not to get lost. Know the tourist attractions and try sticking to them until you get comfortable.
Keep pepper spray with you at all times. That is very important. Locals can probably scope out a tourist from a mile away, and any of them could take advantage of you. I have heard not to eat the watermelon there. I don't know why, or the story behind it, but it's always worth knowing. :)
Although you are going to study, I am sure you are going to want to have fun as well. Be safe. Don't give anyone you don't know directions to where you are staying, and don't go anywhere alone with anyone. If you have sex, use protection and use caution. But have fun! This is an exiting experience and you should take full advantage of it! :) [ Melody's advice column | Ask Melody A Question ]

azndude09 answered Monday December 21 2009, 1:43 am: My tip for you is to make sure that you are ready to study at a foreign country. Study their culture and learn their national language. That's the most important advice if you are planning on taking your life to a new environment. Just research so that you will be ready!!! : ) [ azndude09's advice column | Ask azndude09 A Question ]
