I was thinking of starting an early Christmas gift round this week but I don't want to seem stupid in the lines when I buy lots of Christmas presents for my friends and family. I want to beat the holiday rush and I don't see WHY it would be wrong to buy now but I don't know if I'm missing something. Is it too soon to start my holiday Christmas shopping or should I wait a little longer before I start buying gifts? What do you think and why?
hotpotato answered Thursday October 1 2009, 8:42 pm: It's totally legit. I always buy gifts whenever I see them. For birthdays or Christmas. Like, if I see something that is an inside joke kind of gift I know my friend/family member will like, I buy it there and then because who knows if you'll ever see that item again and such. It's good to prepare early. I don't see anything wrong with it. Happy shopping! [ hotpotato's advice column | Ask hotpotato A Question ]

You buy them, leave them somewhere in your home; and when the time come, give them out. They are still new and haven't been used yet--good as new. It's rather a good habit because you have more time to make your decision and sometimes you can get a cheaper deal.
It's what I used to do, too. When I see something on sale (50% or more), I'll just go ahead and buy it. I may not have a use for it, but it could work as a present for someone else. In the recent years, however, I've switched to giving gift cards instead of presents. I think just give the money for the person and let him/her decide what to buy is better than giving a present that he/she doesn't like. Some people criticize that it's not very thoughtful, but I think it's better than giving useless junks that the person probably never use anyway--that's not much different from throwing money out of the window. You might be missing out on deals that stores offer at Christmas time, BUT you're beating the lines, the chaos, and you're saving time. It's better to do the shopping now than to be stressed out once it hits winter. :) Go for it. [ christina's advice column | Ask christina A Question ]
The_MoUsY_spell_checker answered Thursday October 1 2009, 3:08 am: Good for you to be so organised. I think it is a good idea to start early and beat the holiday rush. This is especially true if you have lots of friends and family members for whom you intend to buy presents. I don't see how it can be "wrong".
Just keep in mind that the earlier you buy something, the longer you will have to store it for before you give it away. This might be an issue if you don't have enough space to store all the presents you intend to buy, or if you tend to lose things easily.
